Ranked is an entirely different world, and I wasn't really prepared for it

Ever since I got ranked I've really struggled to win matches. It's almost as if I'm back to same level that I was when I started playing PVP normals. I regularly run into smurfs and it's really hard for me to adapt. Any advice on how to improve from here on would be highly appreciated.

step 1: listen to All Star by Smash Mouth step 2: get fucking inspired step 3: win every ranked game for the next 6 hours step 4: repeat process until you hit challenger

Ranked is an entirely different beast from norms. I may not be ranked or anything, but its terrifying in there. I just wanted you to know, you're not alone. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Nice to know I have friends ^_^ I'm still going to remain determined. I want to be Gold ranked at the very least :)

I plan on hitting ranked hard in season 6. I'm feeling confidant about season 6. If you want, add me and we can do some games together sometime. I also hope that your journey to gold is fun one.

Not as hard, but I figured I'd give ranked a shot in the preseason. Best to start when everyone is trying new stuff right?

Yeah, then you actually have a chance and everyone is learning new things. So its a win win either way.

Ok, it is a good mindset to be determined to be where you want to in ranked, but whatever you do, dont get obsessed. This is my first season of ranked, and I really wanted to get gold (not gonna happen xD), so I starting watching all these guides on "how to play this" "proper warding" "how to get out of silver" and all that. I'm not saying they were bad videos, they actually helped a lot, but I over focused and dropped to s3. I got scared in was on tilt, and just decided not to play ranked for like a week. DONT OVERTHINK. I went back and played ranked yesterday (one day) and jumped from 2LP silver 3 all the way to my promos for s2. Now, I don't know about you, but I got a 4 game winstreak out of "hey, ranked is about to end so **ck it" and a tilting session out of trying.

Play something you think is fun, enjoy it. I personally love Kha Zix, so i decided to play him ranked for the first time. After 4 minutes I forgot it was ranked, and was 8/2/6 by 15 minutes. I wasnt even focused on winning the game, I just really wanted to try the Korean double jump with him, as weird as it sounds. If you are chill, play what is best for you, and don't care about other flamers or match losses, you will climb to where you belong.

the best advice i can give you is not to play ranked for a long time. until you know all 5 skills on every champion, relative cd and damage of every skill, every item and how they can fit into every character you know the advanced mechanics with. it's a very dynamic game, and if you slack off in a competitive environment you will lose a lot of games and attract a lot of unwanted attention. pretty much you just have to avoid falling into bronze.

This is good advice. Getting mastery rank 5 on a champion usually means you know a good amount of the champion. Whether you are good with them or that you've played them a lot.

I'm plat and still don't want to play ranked sometimes because of the drama. Platinum is just a very thin layer of platinum coated onto silver. You still get the "mid Fiora only or feed" types as last pick. You still get the intent feeders and AFKs.

I'm surprised, I actually haven't ran into too many AFKs, but their are definitely those with inflated egos. Even at Silver 1

It's not as hard if you've got some experience under your belt. I waited 4 years to start ranked and got S2. I would've attempted to climb to Gold but I'm not really feeling it. Anyway, the reason I waited so long was so I could get thoroughly acquainted with each champion. CD's, Skills, the damage they might do and general buildpaths. Once you've got some knowledge of about every champion it makes things easier because you know how to more or less deal with certain situations. Plus, it's best to only go into Ranked once you've gotten to the point where no matter what's said to you, you won't lose your shit. Also play what you know and try not to become completely obsessed to the point where you can't have fun anymore.

I started ranked in Season 3 the moment I hit level 30. I've played almost exclusively ranked since then. It was a long hard slog out of bronze. Looking back, I can see all the things I did wrong that kept me there as long as I was. I peaked this season at 80 LP in Silver 3, and I plan to get Silver 1 next season. Set realistic goals, and always try to improve your play.

There will always be games that are out of your control, but the proper attitude is "what could I have done better," not "that feeder mid made us lose". Even it's true, because that attitude doesn't help you improve.

I went over a game with a coach, he pointed out ways I could have been better. Then said, "I know we shouldn't blame teammates for losses, but Diana really wasn't helping at all. She fed your lane, she fed her lane, and was always positioned badly. But here are ways you could have tried to help her..."

Don't insult your teammates, even if they're really bad. Insulting someone doesn't make them play better, and might make someone who likes to troll start doing it in earnest. Suggest improvements politely. "Leona, please get a sightstone. We need more vision. And everyone else, upgrade your trinkets." This works way better than "Fuckin' noob Leona won't buy a sightstone. Idiot." She might still not get a sightstone when you're polite, but it's even less likely if you're not.

Anyway, good luck out there.

Yup its a whole new game. People tend to rush into it not knowing enough about the lane they're playing.

Hey at least you're not like me; I'll sustain, poke, cs, and ward, and necause the other guy can't kill me, he will call 2+ of his friends to constantly dive turret and kill me repeatedly early.

It makes me go from really good early game, to behind and easy food.

Here's how it goes: Any tier V-III, regardless of level (Bronze through Platinum anyways), will be a hellhole of people who have given up trying in ranked. There will be the blessed few trying to climb, while the rest are content to stay and troll. My best advice is to play a champ who is decently in meta and you can do well with, and hope for the best.
