I don't think I've ever seen the player morale this low

And considering this is League of Legends we're talking about, that's really saying something. People are really quick to give up or grief. The damage is way too high and laning phase is almost non-existent.

I believed that after the fiasco that was pre-season occurred a lot of things would've been dialed back. Then there was Zoe being released, item 3147 never being addressed, Conqueror, and the ridiculous amount of damage/mobility creep. I could drone on about the plethora of issues with this game at the moment but there's really nothing I could say that hasn't been stated already.

Riot needs to start taking player feedback seriously.

They will respond by buffing damage even more.

Ayanami3rd22 votes

You are wrong, Sir. Riot will instead nerf towers.

Khristophoros3 votes

lmao I can see that happening

Chawoora12 votes

Next thing you know Riot will do something totally crazy and off the wall like, say, adding damage stats to utility runes like Zombie Ward and Ghost Poro....oh...wait.

Khristophoros4 votes

Yeah seriously meanwhile they leave like half of the Resolve runes as unusable garbage

November 2017 (pre-Season) --> July 2018 (now).

They haven't listened AT ALL, and this is the result. Good job :D

Automated Riven1 votes

They have tho. They nerfed adc's. They nerfed supports. They nerfed tanks. They have actually done quite a bit that the boards has asked for. But the only one I can get behind is the support shield durations. But even there they nerfed too much by hitting the heal and shield power stat as well.

Yung Daemon Sand1 votes

I mean I guess but it's the fact that the way they go about fixing stuff is stupid- like first off why'd they make tanks too strong to begin with. I main Treeline and I remember a time 2 seasons ago where adc solo lane was common. It's gotten harder and harder to do that since tank buffing, and now it's just shy of impossible. And then their solution to the tank buffing wasn't tank nerfing, it was basically assassin buffing and then increasing the general damage output in the game to the point that it literally isn't beneficial to have a tank- and never mind the myriad issues that have attracted widespread attention throughout the community that they've just blatantly ignored

Automated Riven1 votes

Meh. They listen. But sometimes they don't quite comprend the effects of how they implement things. (none of us do) or they make way to many changes at once.

And the important things they simply refuse to do. Like remove the balance changes for casual and professional play.

My Morale is low because they're about to delete my champion and they got rid of the old Rune system.

I think that players feel helpless with the overly aggressive changes to the game. I quit for almost a year before and I was still able to come back and get into Diamond again without too much trouble as i'd been in diamond 3 before.

But now that runes are gone and the game meta punishes individuals with the new shut down system; I don't think that solo carrying to climb elo is really possible like it used to be.

The game balancing is just so all over the place and out of control that its hard to climb in addition to riot punishing individuals for getting fed.

Players having a 50% win rate is not a barometer of a good elo system.

The game was better when ques were longer ( but focused more on keeping the rating differential smaller ) and champions were more customizable with higher solo carry potential.

The new pick your role que system is lame as well. Just let people get their pick by order / negotiation like it used to be. Teamwork was practiced in champ select. This also helped keep que times down.

Now since everyone que's for their preferred roles riot has to broaden the elo in each match creating more imbalance.

Perhaps their broken matchmaking system is why they are punishing individual carries?

Old runes was a toxic "grind to get better stats" system that punished new players for being new and created a large, artificial gap. Champions weren't "more customizable" , everyone used the same stats on the same champions

Yeah - They should have just made them all free and had reccomend pages.

Dont remove them.

Except that the old system was boring and not interactive at all

Shobek17 votes

The old runes could easily co exist with the new system.

Spoofghoul26 votes

it actually did

we had runes and we had mastery trees

now we have mastery trees which where renamed to rune paths ofc with more bonkers keystones just to pigeonhole champs into 1 or 2 optimal paths

wow such innovation Look at the insane amount of options we have we can now make meaningful choices between 1 rune tree with 1 keystone

Wingklip4 votes

Yeah let's rename masteries to runes, then delete rune pages, then ask the playerbase to pay for it 3x more because the RNG crates grind is 3x less rewarding and 3x longer to grind for just to get 90BE because it was a 450 champ. After 15 games, mind you. And then making people with 100+ rune pages from years before have their assets completely deleted except for 6 months prior or some crap. ??????????????????????????????

How long does it take now to make new rune pages? Even longer than before. I quite enjoyed the end of patch 7.21 when the runes were all 1IP each. It should have been something they did yeaaaaaaaaaaaaars ago. And then they completely dumpstered creativity.

Tetsip25 votes

The runes should be boring. Let the champions be the interesting thing, so then thats the only thing riot has to worry about when balancing. This isn't mario party, its SUPPOSE to be competitive.

Gramps698 votes

Exactly that. Champs nowadays are defined by their keystone. With the exception of the LEague of Thunderlords meta, masteries and runes really didn't affect a champion all that much. Hell, you didn't see what masteries/runes they took in the loading screen/scoreboard like you do now. They're giving to much power, which in turn means a champion's kit isn't what's important anymore, it's "which kit allows me to proc Electrocute best?" "Which champ can abuse Conqueror?"

deadlychuck1 votes

The thing that made thunderlords the meta was the fact that was generic enough to be applied to literally every champion.

They could've just added the thunderlords proc to all champions and it would've created almost no relative change between the champions. It only would've worked to increase the average damage in the game, which is a related but different issue.

Automated Riven1 votes

Actually that's not true. It was by and large the most reliable keystone and did a metric ton of damage. (at the time) but at the time people were pissed because it did so much extra damage. Now electrocute does 1.5* as much as is considered shit. So there is power creap for you.

deadlychuck1 votes

That's pretty much what I'm saying when I say that it "was generic enough"

Ayzev5 votes

I personally agree, but the majority of the runes we have now are also no more than extra numbers that you get for doing what you would do anyway. And those who actually do change how you play are generally unpopular. Honestly, if it was up to me, I'd just remove masteries and runes altogether. I don't see how the previous iterations added anything to the game, and the current one seems to cause balance issues more than it does anything else.

Gramps692 votes

Just let champions exist on their own??? ARE YOU INSANE

Madsin253 votes

Having different runes to choose different playstyles could work and would make the game a little more fresh with each playthrough rather than having no runes at all.

Can league be balanced to actually have diversity in runes is the question. Because right now if I play Vladimir and don't take electrocute I might aswell be inting.

Shobek3 votes

Noway! old runes were great. Just give them to everyone for freeeeeee

Ayzev1 votes

I don't see what's great about just raw stat boosts. You could give every champion extra base stats instead and everything would be the same.

Automated Riven2 votes

Because you could take different pages in to different matchups on the same champions. I had 13 rune pages for riven, and I used every single one into specific matchups. Stat boosts were way better then the new rune shit.

You also removed every defensive rune to allow people to survive hard lanes. Armor into talon and zed. MR into leblanc. Scaling HP on tanks. And so on.

Ayzev1 votes

I don't consider taking different runes depending on matchups a choice. Taking MR against magic damage dealers or armor against physical isn't something you do because it suits your playstyle or whatever. You do it because it gives you an advantage. You simply take that which is most effective. The only thing the old system changed about how you played was "I'm stronger, I should fight" when you had the optimal setup and "I'm weaker, I should play safe" when you didn't. Not to say that the current system is better or even equally good, but at least it has the potential to be more interactive, it's just not living up to it as it stands. And then there's also the balance issues it has created with some champions being better at using what they have available than others, skyrocketing damage across the board and whatever else there may be. But even if these problems can be fixed, I think any such system is simply unnecessary. It's not worth the time, effort and resources of balancing/reworking and the suffering players endure while it's still a work in progress.

Automated Riven3 votes

I can agree with this. But I think that the old runes had more interesting choices. Like, I used to run a scaling rune page with was very effective late in the game. Vs a flat rune page which was better early. Those choices don't exist anymore.

SupportTeemoOnly2 votes

Sweet Jesus this thread makes me miss runes. The game was so much better back then. Defensive options, scaling, tactics. Do I want flat ArmPen quints or flat AD? You really got to benefit from knowing more about the game, lane match ups, team strengths, enemy build paths etc. I'd happily give up masteries and keystones for customisable rune pages.

The old runes were great because even if you got counterpicked, you then had impactful options via runes on how to mitigate the counter, or maybe even tactically turn things in your favour. Masteries just don't provide the same option.

I honestly almost forgot we used to run an extra 9 armour and magic resist at lvl1. That shit was lovely. In hindsight it seems ridiculous how they added so much damage in to the game via the new masteries while eradicating sensible defensive options. If I'm an Adc or a mage I'm not gonna be dipping into the resolve tree. I dont mind running the standard armour yellows and MR blues tho.

Also seems ridiculous how the new masteries were supposed to open up new options, when all they have done is pigeonhole players into having less viable options in their selection of champion (who can abuse best the new keystones) and masteries (which are best for their champ, almost always regardless of circumstance)

Fun :D And that's not even one of the issues that concerns me. this is just something I forgot about. What a mess!

Automated Riven1 votes

To be fair I did call this when they annouced the keystone's were gonna be more powerful.

Because the old keystone's did the same thing. When TD was op it pushed every champion who couldn't proc it easily out of the game. And the trend has continued since they were implemented preseason seven.

Yeah, except the fact that right now you can abuse certain runes on certain champions to end up dealing ridiculous amount of damage for literally no effort at all. Just point'n'click.

Gramps6914 votes

"Boring and not interactive"

At least with the old rune systems I could take an armor page against a Zed/Yasuo so they can't just steamroll my 17 armor-ass at level 1.

I can't speak for others but mine is dead. I used to love League, I was so hyped for this season, I wanted to finally reach platinum and I wanted to hone my skills.

Now after the rune changes, the new champions/items and the direction the game has been taken in I don't even care. I barely play anymore, I'm not motivated to play the game, either I have to lane vs some unfun bullshit and get my ass pounded or I get a decent lane and just watch someone else feed their ass off and throw the game with little chance at a comeback.

Grokmir6 votes

All they need to do to fix the game is give a 500 range dash to all of morde's abilities.

Bam the meta is fixed, esports is rejuvenated, and there's an influx of new players.

Also toxicity and trolling drops to 0.

honestly, i think there might be a change coming soon, most of it seemed to be from around 4 patches ago and is beginning to balance out now. A lot changed, for the better imo. Marksmen are beginning to come back, once that's successful the old community might regain that spark. because, ngl for two-three months i stopped playing cuz the game wasn't fun (when marksmen were dominant and the game relied soo much on bot winning, lost the volatility and diverse strategy as well as a lot of fun. However started playing again this month, and it honestly feels more fun.. not perfect yet, but better. Not saying Riot is without major err, but it's getting better. At least imo.

It's OK, Riot devs only ever look on the League subreddit, which is so heavily moderated that it's impossible to tell if anyone is unhappy ever. Which is the same as everyone being happy, right?

Seriously, it's like Communism all over again over there.

You forgot things like conquerer being something the COMMUNITY demended nonestop because tanks were meta back then. You forgot the community crying havoc about not dealing enough damage to shields and how assassins are unviable. Or how exhaust is OP because it makes you do less damage, so they nerfed healing and exhaust and buffed ignite.

But the main thing you forget is a lot of changes are due to community outcry and feedback.

every meta is the worst meta until it's a thing of the past and then the current meta is the worst meta. Every year is the death of league, every season is the worst season #bringbackseason1

I'm not saying the game is problem free but these doomsday posts are getting old..

AstroFerrari 1 votes

I will address the fact that the community did demand things like conqueror and the shielding issue. You are right and I have the introspection to admit that much. My only problem with the implementation of Conqueror was how problematic it was on champions like Irelia, Yasuo and Tryndamere. All of whom have good mobility, can split push, make good use of Conqueror and Bone plating, while dealing true damage and being hard to lock down or kill. Though that problem has more to do with those champions specifically than the rune itself.

All I want is for Riot to quit ignoring the glaring issues of this game and show some accountability.

JackMcSnipeyz1 votes

Okay, lets say they nerf these champions because of the rune, then what?

You'll have these champ mains come here and post how they are not the problem but the rune is. If you nerf the rune, bruisers will complain that they are gonna lose to tanks, hell even the small AD nerf got some flak for being as minor as it was.

I dont claim to have a solution, i'm just pointing out why it's a very complex situation and not everyone will be pleased - EVER.

The only thing i think everyone can agree on is towers being too weak.
