Thoughts about the way majority play certain champs.

For some reason I can't post into general discussion...

I've always thought about how for certain reasons, most will just opt into skill maxing without thinking. That changed years ago when I started to practice grabbing skills 1-4 based on the situation. However, I think there's still something that needs to be brought up that a lot havn't really thought about.

Ultimates.

Not saying anything I'm going to bring up is absolutely right since it all depends on you the player who'll use the champ but to get to the point:

Do you feel like every single ultimate in the game are a "MUST" to rank up to 2 and 3 asap?

This is not a problem at all, and no riot doesn't have to "Fix" anything, it's just a suggestion that you can think about before going into games on certain champs. Also I don't mean you just used your ultimate and hit level 11 and decide to withhold your point until level 12 since your ulti is already down, but actually just not maxing your ulti until 2 or 3 base skills are maxed.

My personal champs who I tend not to rank 2/3 ultimates on CURRENTLY:

  1. Akali- Let me explain, this was after akali's rework ever since it happened, I just did not feel it was worth rushing points into, only slightly increasing the hit itself's damage and recharge rate.... felt like a waste compared to maxing out Q+E or occasionally Q,W and E. Sure the recharge rate is good and all, but if you manage dashes properly you should still have some left esp since kills and assist(takedowns) also return a charge. And E rank 4/5 being a 30-60 damage increase, energy cost reduction, 1 second shaved off and adding more waveclear didn't make choosing ulti rank 2 over it seem better.

  2. Azir- This is after the nerfs, whenever I played him I kept trying to force my ultimate to land for flashy plays even with some damage drops, instead I just use it for self-peel and wait until Q+W are maxed before putting more points into ulti. Sure the CD being lowered is huge but I most often just sit on it, even if it's off CD. However I don't play azir too much if any after the nerfs, probably only have 10 games on him now? So this is most likely due to not knowing current azir.

  3. Cassiopeia- This is simply due to me preferring having Q+E maxed first rather than ulti I only use exclusively for the stun. I don't think the stun duration went up with level and thus I didn't care much about ranking it up. I mean comeon 55 more damage on something you use much more often+the MS makes Q much better to max than 100 damage from ulti although it comes with 20 seconds shaved off ulti.

  4. Illaoi- This is heavily due to the actual power difference between a rank 1 and rank 2 illaoi ulti. From a basic illaoi's ulti from the get go heavily empowers illaoi's base skills and grants more reliable tentacle usage. reason I detest even putting further points into ulti until her entire base kit is maxed. It does give ulti CDR, but during ulti what you use is Q/W/E to get use out of the ulti, just havn't seen a point into ranking up ulti just for 15 secs shaved off and no damage. Yes you have more uptime on ulti for illaoi, but illaoi's real focus is base kit's power. Getting that base kit online faster makes her far more useful when outside of ulti. Not to mention innately she builds a large chunk of cdr making her ulti feel like a 1 point wonder as far as I can see. And more than manageable since you don't lose any power but gain more when using ulti properly.

  5. Jayce- I joke I joke, Red form kayn- Yes it's specific ONLY to red form kayn. His ulti in that form gains nothing from ranking up ulti except for 20 sec shaved off. I put off putting a second point into it until both Q+W are maxed(which is also why I leave Q as a one point wonder until W is max when I'm planning to opt into darkin form, because Q gains no damage from being ranked up first in that form. None of this applies to blue form shadow assassin kayn.

  6. Morganna- Yes i know this ultimate gives a large chunk of damage, 10 seconds shaved off, and is bread and butter for teamfights. HOWEVER, I mostly like having Q+W maxed asap before that 2nd point into ulti because I'd mostly go into stasis with only Q+W ticking. Even sometimes preferring to max ulti LAST until spell shield is fully maxed out vs heavy magic damage teams. But that's just due to how much I feel I can reliably land Q and how much I want someone dead after a binding. I don't think trying to dream about rank 2 ulti is worth it enough compared to having Q+W maxed for securing picks even if full rank 2 ulti lands.

  7. Lane Patheon- Yes pantheon, unlike other globals I just use it for moving around and rather have Q+E maxed out first and it gives the slow at rank 1, a rank 2 ulti can hurt but I assume noone will ever be in the center of it. Rather get the more garunteed 40/80 damage on the opponent or during a roam vs an ulti which I don't use for it's damage potential but strictly for roaming and even escaping meaning it just is not for damage when I personally use it unless it's the cheese when I go back and someone is hitting the turret.

  8. Poppy- I EXCLUSIVELY use the ulti for the knockup, only occasionally charging it to peel. I don't see a point in even putting a single point into it for 50 damage (uncharged does 50% reduced dmg). I don't charge it to kill things. Never. I fully leave it as a one-point wonder.

  9. Ryze- This shouldn't be a surprise since there were a large amount who just did not put points into ulti until level 10+11, but I just fully opt out on it entirely until Q+E are max. I don't like using it too much for a large amount of situations. It's fine in premade, but don't like it outside of premade.

  10. AD Shaco- I know this will sound strange but personally, I just don't put more than one point into shaco's ulti until his entire base kit is max, kinda like illaoi, but for a bit more precise reasons. Ulti being ranked up just doesn't give anything to AD shaco that he wants. He gets all of what he wants just from rank 1 ulti. You want your base kit maxed up asap no questions asked. Even if AD shaco thinks even W is useless it's not, all that fear duration, 500 base damage are more than worthwhile for placing them since they last a decent duration. And Q should be self-explanatory, even if it's thought of to be "trash" it's still a stealth blink and a powerful one at that.

  11. Tahm Kench- I just don't care enough to put more than 1 point into it ever since the change for the damage to be moved passively, just see no point at all.

  12. Taliyah- This just depends on how the game is going, if I feel I can make the right roams on a constant basis I opt out on putting more points in, if not enough time, then I put 2 points in.

  13. I kinda feel like I should say udyr, but I already made the joke with jayce....

Well those are the champions I tend to do this on, do you do it and if so on who?

You always max Illaois R for the cooldown, Pretty much same for every champ.
