Did they hire Greg Street with the purpose of killing the game?
I'm serious here guys:
World of Warcraft hit it's all time high in the WotLK expansion (Wrath of the Lich King), since Cataclysm, the following expansion, the game has been going downhill and the playerbase is a fraction of what it used to be. There's barely 1/4th of the players the game used to have.
Greg Street, also known as Ghostcrawler, joined Blizz in Feb 2008, which was too early to have any impact on the WotLK expansion that was released in Nov 2008. But he was fully commited to Cataclysm, the expansion that started WoW's decline.
Greg then left Blizz and got hired at Riot Games in January 2014. Since then the game went away from a gamestyle that was fair for both teams, to adopt games that are snowballier seasons after seasons, in which the outcome of the game is decided earlier into the game, and in which the leading team barely has to make any effort to maintain their lead.
See the pattern here? In both instances Greg wanted the game to appeal to a larger audience, but in the process, killing what made the game fun for their dedicated playerbase.
Yet, since both games are successful, Greg receives all the praise and is still considered a great designer by many, despite the fact that both games were already massively successful before he joined them, and that they had a decline in quality afterwards. Kings are hard to dethrone. Greg Street is basically the Miley Cyrus of video games, he's using someone else's repuration to get at the top.
So, why would they want to kill the game? Maybe for player influx. Even if you change the game, a lot of older, dedicated players will still play, despite hating the state of the game (which includes myself, i hate the state of LoL since Greg joined Riot Games, yet i still play since it's still the best game of it's kind imho) but it will also catter to new, younger players.
Greg takes the quote "If it's working, don't change it" and completely ignores it.
