Meta picking

There are champions that see little to no play because there is an option who does their job more easily, sometimes even better. Like, why would you play Ashe when Kai'sa is available? Why pick off-meta when you can pick meta?

I feel like League is currently in a state in which you either play meta or the match will be a lot harder for your team. Take Worlds for example. Wasn't the idea with the 'Worlds patch' to buff certain champions and make the meta so that there would be no insta-pick and/or insta-ban champions? How come Kai'sa saw so much play, why did people pick Rakan just to force the other team to pick Xayah? Once again, I'll use Ashe as an example. She saw play only once, and it was a loss.

Outside of competitive play, champions like Kog'Maw and Kalista very rarely see play, whereas Lucian and Kai'sa (once again) top the charts.

Similar patterns can be seen on other lanes as well, but with different champions.

Apologies for a bit of ranty post. I want to play League, I really do, but it just feels like the game is headed towards a more concerning course every patch.
