How Good is Lethality?

Brutalitops01··5 votes·15,661 views

So, this preseason, we're getting a new stat in place of armor penetration: Lethality. There are 3 items that have 20 Lethality each on a unique passive. That's a possible 60 Lethality, which we know will scale with the target's level. I've heard that the math on it is 40% Lethality is basically Flat Armor Penetration, and the other 60% will be added in based on the target's level. That's a total of 24 Lethality that's outright flat and 36 that's being added in at a rate of 2 per level when you have the full 60. I'll be using the stats of champions who are primary role Marksman to assess how strong this is, since they will more often than not be the assassin's targets. All of the math is from their pages on the League of Legends website, and I'm using the simple formula of b+(s*18) for this, where b = base armor and s = armor per level. First, I'll list each champion's base armor at level 18, then tell you just how strong I think this new stat is.

Ashe: 82.412 Caitlyn: 85.88 Corki: 86.38 Draven: 84.944 Ezreal: 84.88 Graves: 85.576 Jhin: 83 Jinx: 85.88 Kalista: 82.012 Kindred: 83 Kog'Maw: 82.88 Lucian: 78.04 Miss Fortune: 78.04 Quinn: 86.38 Sivir: 80.71 Teemo: 91.8 Tristana: 76 Twitch: 77.04 Urgot: 83.944 Varus: 84.412 Vayne: 80.212

The highest base armor here is Teemo's 91.8, but if we don't count him because he isn't played as an ADC, it becomes Corki/Quinn tied at 86.38. The lowest is Tristana's 76. Subtracting 60 from each of these leaves us with 31.8, 26.38, and 16 for the range of base armor values after 60 Lethality is factored in. I can pretty easily see ADC champions building at least 1 armor item when against an AD assassin next season, but overall it appears to be a fairly balanced stat that does what it's supposed to do: help assassins scale into the late game without making it busted in the early game. Thanks for reading and have a great day.

you mean adcs might still have to get a item 3026 to survive an assassin?

ViiLLAiN1 votes

ADCS this season dontr even build a defensive item anymore cuz there is no reason 2

with dmg creep being so overpowered right now, I don't see ADC having the room to.not buy full dmg.

If I'm ahead as an ADC, I'll typically buy a defensive item or a defensive damage item for my 3rd or 4th item, something like Bloodthirster, Maw, or GA.

The Deckowner1 votes

BT and QSS are basically only adc defensive items that are really being build, the only adc in the meta right now that can afford building a GA is caitlyn.

full damage full build assassin will blow up a full damage full build adc before they can get their damage off to kill them....

burst and gap close beats sustain damage

The Deckowner4 votes

all assassins' burst damage are heavily delayed in the assassin update.

while adc still crits for over 1k dmg with 2.0 attackspeed.

a full build Zed will still kill a full damage full build Ashe before ashe can kill him... his gap close and burst will kill her before she can do enough sustain damage to kill him

Not necessarily.

yea that is what zed is designed to do ...

and ashe is design to be sustain damage and sustain damage beats tanks

and tanks survive burst /assassins

its all rock paper scissors

It's what he's designed to do, but half the time, if he ults Ashe, he'll get an ult to the face and die. It's not till much higher ranks that Zed can outright outplay ashe all the time. I'm not defending Zed, but he definitely is not an instant burst assassin like people like to suggest.

this guy has no idea what he is talking about, just downvote him and move on, he is saying Zed is strong against adc because he builds hexdrinker in the post below...

I am not sure if he is trolling or he is just stupid, probably just stupid.

Both. Definitely both.

do you even know how zed and ashe works?

zed uses w to gap close, eats an ashe auto before getting in range of ult, ults then eats an ashe ult in the face after he lands from his ult, eats aa+q reset+auto, dies before stun ends.

full build ashe>full build zed

lol right go ahead and 1 vs 1 a full build zed as full damage ashe

you are dead in 2.5 sec as ashe and if you are luck enough he dont dodge your arrow with his ult or his shadow

The Deckowner1 votes

you ult AFTER he ult for a guarentee ult landing, he can't swop with his ult shadow for 0.5 second.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

but he can still use shadow and flash to dodge your ult

and im sure most ad assassins liek zed ( playing mid lane ) has item 3155 before ashe has item 3026

The Deckowner2 votes

Ashe is a AttackDamageCarry, hexdrinker is literally useless against her. Zed W shadow has a travel time before he can swop with the shadow, meaning that he can't immediately swop out.

talking of flash, did I mention Ashe also has flash and heal? Also she probably has a support peeling for her?

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

her ult is magic damage ... it would negate that damage and if he builds it into maw ... he gets cdr and armor pen

The Deckowner2 votes

Current Maw does not have cdr, and pbe Maw does not have armor pen nor lethality.

hexdrinker and maw shield only triggers when taken magic damage that reduces hp to below 30%, a full hp zed ulting Adhe then takibg the arrow in the face would not trigger hexdrinker shield.

and even if the shield is triggered, it is a magic shield, while ashe do not have nother magic damage outside of her ult it is meaningless.

you really know nothing about the game lul.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

having MR vs her ult that is 100% magic damage will negate some of her damage from her ult there fore you take less damage over all

apparently you dont take the obvious into mind and my bad i meant armor pen not cdr on maw

and if you are mid as zed vs ap you gonna have it any ways adn wearent talking 2 weeks from now . we are talking today...

item 3156 55 ad 40 mr and 10 armor pen still making zed have damage and negating her magic damage from arrow therefore make him have more effective hp when fighting her

The Deckowner1 votes

Ashe's ult damage was specifically nerfed in previous patch so it is used as a utility instead of damage

patch 6.17 R - Enchanted Crystal Arrow DAMAGE 250/425/600 ⇒ 200/400/600

Saying that Zed is way stronger than Ashe because her ult does magic damage and Zed builds MR...Is completely retarded. Well over 90% of Ashe's damage output is physical damage.

by having mr you negate damage taken from ult making you take less over all damage and ashe wont have any armor items mid way in game and typically wont have a item 3026 of late the only real way to counter zeds ult now cuz cant use item 3140 any more

and oh zed gets free passive ad with his ability and highly mobile and tons of burst and has armor pen making his damage more deadly for ashe

The Deckowner1 votes

negating magic damage from ashe ult means...nearly nothing, because it is not even a main component of Ashe's damage.

you knoe what else counters Zed's ult? cc him and stop hum from dealing any damage after he ult, with Ashe ult which should be a guarentee shot since Zed will always land behind his target after ulting!

someone wake this guy up, he is saying having mr means you win against ad carry.

typical zed build mid game vs an ap mid

item 3155 item 3142 item 3147 or item 3071

vs an typical ashe mid game build

item 3031or item 3508 item 3086 item 1055 item 1001 item 1053

zed will win with his burst and he isnt gonna just walk up right in front of ashe's face he is gonna flank and get her by surprise or a good zed /assassin would

The Deckowner2 votes

Hummmmmmm So you are saying Zed typically has 2 complete item and a hexdrinker while Ashe only has 1 complete item and 2 components

That is bullshit.

duskblade cost 3250, youmuus ghostblade cost 3200, hexdrinker 1300, total 7750 gold.

IE cost 3600,zeal 1300, doran blade 450, boot 300,vampscepter 900, total 6550.

your zed item is 1200 golds ahead of Ashe.

also that ashe build is garbage, you wouldn't buy vamp scepter before you finish 2 item, and you finish hurricane before you finish IE.

Also comparing late game adcarry's mid game againdt a mid game assassin, seems really...dumb, huh?

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

solo lane... mid lane easier to get back too and gain levels and experience in... roams. and can take farm in jungle easier... more ways to get gold

The Deckowner1 votes

if you watch any professional games, mid and bot lane are typically nearly equal in gold, the only difference is experience.

you ult AFTER he ult for a guarentee ult landing, he can't swop with his ult shadow for 0.5 second.

Not truly... A good zed player will suspect the ult is up and simply throw his w shadow behind her WHILE ULTING so she is confused and isn't like oh he fired his shadow he is gonna swap and with while ulting i mean launch it right b4 ulting so that she doesn't see it until the moment she is just panicking and shooting her ult at you while you simply press w...-.- A good zed would never use w to gab close so he can simply ult unless he is certain it's an easy and safe kill

I kinda don't get what that guy is winning about though maw has nothing to do in such a situation at all it's simply avoiding the stun so she doesn't beat the living shit out of you while you are stunned

why is corki/quinn so high in the stat?

Brutalitops011 votes

{quoted}

why is corki/quinn so high in the stat?

That's just what their base stat is at level 18. Corki and Quinn both have 23.38 (+3.5/level) armor, which by math comes out to 86.38 at level 18.

FCJAAAAGOOOO1 votes

Awful early, not bad late. Best if your entire champion is focused around dealing damage, especially if they've given up being ranged for it as well. Something something assassins.
