What happened to Veigar?

Does anyone else remember in mid-late Season 5 when Veigar was the one of the most OP champions in the game?

Does anyone even remember Veigar exists?

For anyone that needs a quick update, Veigar is currently sitting at a 44.78% winrate and a 1.58% playrate.

So what happened? I understand he got some nerfs after his OP stage, but he just disappeared. Maybe it's because the FotM is assassin mids, or maybe it was just the nerfs. I decided to play him today and didn't do too bad, so I'm not sure why he's not being played and losing more than 50% of the games he's in.

What's the deal?

And he wasn't really destroyed tbh it's just that currently late game champs aren't good for fast pace game.

He's hard to play when people spam Zed and mobile mages these days...

Heck, to make Veigar more mobile, I use stormsurge's on him since one button = Free MS.

Veigar currently has 2 issues, 1) a lot of people are playing champs with blanks who can bypass his e, and 2) there are a ton of AD/Veigar Counters floating around mid lane right now

Biggest problem is that the game changed to force solo-laners to be more mobile or have tons of cc (or wave clear in the case of mid-lane). The meta is also centered around each team having at least 1-2 tanks, making his ulti way less impactful and way harder to pull off. Not saying he's horrible, but with so many other juicy options running around his kit just isn't as impactful as it could be.

he cant make use of thunderlords, and everyone else got a huge early game buff, soooo..... yeah.... low base health pool.... no good 40% CDR build paths....terrible pen options.....

veigar = bad, gutter even, you hurt your team for picking him over anyone else.

Full AD compositions became viable, often with multiple Marksmen. Combine that with Maw's shield and he becomes a walking stun bot.

When people believe that games are ending faster and teams are full AD, no one thinks to pick a late game scaling anti-mage.

Assassins and other midlaners that can just avoid the stun and outrange him all lane and during team fights

hes still good. Just not popular anymore because hes counters ap heavy champs, remember? This meta has alot more AD mids than previous metas (unless you count season 1 when adcs used to go solo mid). Also, hes mostly picked as a counter against AP champions with low mr. He's not bad but its just that hes less powerful if he can't 1 shot the mid laner.

He is a counter pick like Galio. He has place but just not common. I use him often mid against like Heim, ahri or leblanc

The few champs AP currently played are either extremely mobile or tanks. Most of the current meta is composed by ad champs, if you add this to the fact that if they build malmortius they auto win the lane against an AP... Eww.

Also, i don't understand who is downvoting the Op lel, he just made a legit question.
