Really? No complaints about Malphite so far?

We're content to talk about Lee Sin but nobody wants to complain about seeing Malphite in every god damn game? Maybe talk about the Trundles running rampant? No, Lee Sin is the problem. Definitely.

Most important thing is to reduce Lee's movespeed. That's gotta be first on the list

Malphite's playrate is around 11%, Lee Sin's playrate is around 34%. Assuming you're an average player you will see 3x as many Lee Sins as Malphites, and 1 Lee every 3 games. Adding to this Lee Sins play rate has been higher than 20% for 3 years straight, most of that time it's been higher than 30%. This is why a lot of people are absolutly sick off seeing Lee.

I'm sick of the following champions dominating nearly every game I'm in:

Gangplank Chills top all game, really nothing you can do to beat him in lane. It's either you play defensive and he pokes/farms the whole time, or you go offensive and he chills back and farms the whole time. Either way he's got the ult and TP to be a presence in teamfights while you've just got TP.

Lulu Specifically Lulu mid. Much like GP, really nothing you can do about it.

LeeSin Powerful at all points of the game. Late game weakness is a MYTH.

Malphite Immovable in lane, stupid powerful once he hits 6. It also really annoys me that his ult has got a lower cd at all ranks than Galio's.

MissFortune Straight up too powerful right now.

Quinn I just really really hate her Q.

Rengar Either gets incredibly fed with very little counterplay, or doesn't and does absolutely nothing for his team. Terribly designed champion.

Renekton Never been a fan of him, now he's a bit popular so it's even less tolerable.

Yasuo Kind of goes hand in hand with the rise of Malphite. With more Malphites you've got more Yasuos, and the worst part is, they're not even good yet when they have a team built around them it's kind of hard not to get fed and carry. Also I've always hated how stupid powerful he is against mid lane mages early on.

Zed Damn near impossible to beat as a mage. He's just gonna grab hexdrinker first item and shit on you.

And I'll add a few that aren't so popular that I'm not a fan of as well: TahmKench MonkeyKing Fiora Fizz Garen Illaoi Annie Anivia

Now if you only complained about 3 or 4 champions then fine, but you literally just complained about almost all of them.

The Bearded Bard3 votes

Probably because those are close to the only champions played. I'd complain less if we had more variety, but in a game with nearly 130 champions to choose from, I'd like to see more than 20 of them.

PhantomGG2 votes

I blame the community for that one, for they really undermine the value of a counter pick

Gangplank-Dislikes people who are either very tanky, or good at saveing teamates

Lu lu-I legit have no clue what stops her....so you got me here

Malphite-anyone with the 3 hit proc circles

Miss Fortune-Got me here, but in all honesty almost all marksman are on fair game with her right now

Quinn-CC her and the girl dies

Rengar-Honestly the easiest way to fix him is to nerf the trophy system, to describe it in the words of MagikCarpUsedFly the youtuber "so you start off in the game and its sorta hard to get kills and takes skill but then because of his passive the more kills you get the easiest it gets to the point it takes no skill"

Renekten-really easy to shut down and falls off late game

Yasuo-Super easy to shut down even with a all yasuo comp for yasuo is a high skill capped champoin who is useless in the hands of someone who isn't compentant

Zed-Is only good in the early game, then once everyone starts to complete their items he is legit useless for he cant assasinate anyone

For the record, I didn't downvote you.

Back to GP: The issue isn't that he's killing people, the issue is how boring he is to play against. Like I said, three options, get poked out of lane, farm with him while he assists his team and you don't, or have your base taken while he assists the team and you don't. It's just like old Shen.

Malphite: A champion shouldn't automatically win the lane if you don't directly counter them. Counter picks are important, but not picking one or even picking a bad champion into a lane shouldn't just automatically lose you the lane, ya know? Plus I don't see how three hit procs counter him considering he lowers attack speed.

Quinn: Come on, we're really saying CC as a counter is a thing? There's like three champions in this game that CC doesn't counter, Irelia, Olaf, and GP.

Rengar: If it were me, I'd change his ult to a global targeted ability that reveals the target and gives them the ! after the first 3/4/5 seconds, then give him an Eve-like stealth. This way it feels more like a hunter/hunted thing as opposed to 'lemme just reveal everything in the area, skirt around all those pesky tanks I can now see and go right to the target without them being able to do anything about it'. Now you can intercept him if he makes a mistake. Now there's risk.

Short of that, I'd get rid of his true sight and change it to regular sight, then make it so he can't cast spells midjump.

Renekton: For the millionth time, falling off late game is a myth. Lee Sin doesn't fall off late game, Shaco doesn't fall off late game, Renekton doesn't fall off late game. If they get fed, which they will with their early games, they will absolutely not fall off. No champion that gets fed falls off late game, these champions have better early game than most, so they'll most likely get fed. Also, Renekton's full combo is a bit obnoxious in terms of damage and the ability to do something about it.

Yasuo: Highly disagree. Shutting him down isn't nearly as easy as you make it out to be. It's the same situation with the ol' protect the kog'maw/vayne comps except these comps are loaded with knockups, and the target you have to kill is extremely mobile, has aoe cc, a shield that resets off of any knockup, and can three shot most tanks after ulting. On top of all that, he's got wind wall, which makes most mages/assassins much less of a threat.

Simply put, Yasuo decides whether he wins or loses. You do not outplay him, he fails to outplay you. If you both play perfectly, he wins. If he plays damn near perfectly and you play perfectly, he still wins.

Zed: Snowball assassin with great wave clear, poke, escapes, and no mana costs. He's going to get fed regardless of how safe you play. If he can't kill you solo in mid lane, he'll push the wave and roam bot lane. Simple solution: Make it so his passive can't be used on minions, make it so W cooldown starts after the shadow is swapped/disappears. Now Zed's farming isn't the easiest thing in the world and he has to make a decision whether or not he wants to use his shadow right away and lower the cd or keep it up and farm/harass from a distance.

I'm also going to add one more because I've been seeing it quite a bit lately and frankly, I'm surprised at how well it's doing. Devour Rammus . This shit is just obnoxious.

Its funny because people call lees kit antifun and toxic. Then you see malphites kit that is designed to BE antifun for an enemy ad champion and make his attacks basically useless. Malphites kit is more toxic in many regards but because he is a tank and easy as shit he is completly fine. Double standards much.

Yasuo's kit is designed to BE antifun for an enemy ranged champion and make their projectiles basically useless.

At least Malphite doesn't make AD auto attacks disappear.

A lot less than Yasuo's windwall against ADCs, who are the main champions that Malphite's built to counter.

Malphite isn't going to skull-fuck carries with full tank abyssal scepter builds.

Can he solo them with that build? Yeah, he can.. But then most tanks can. Full tank Darius with abyssal (a champ with 0 magic damage) and full tank trundle with Abyssal (a tank with 1 magic damage ability which isn't great against squishy champs) could solo carries with that build. That says more about solo carry vs full tank build than anything else.

Malphite is definitely frustrating for carries, but he's also manageable. A QSS (very good now) means that you can easily escape after his R > E > Q combo and go do something else, as well as having a competent support who peels for you are both things which can very much marginalize what he does / his threat. And terrible as it may be to have to play around Malphite, understand that the enemy ADC will have to do the exact same thing. Whether it's Darius, Amumu, Zac or Sej they (should) be causing the same amount of disruption in the enemy team and also making their life fun.

Joe Dredd2 votes

Except you have a chance at actually kiting darius or trundle, and after malph combos you, you're so close to being dead that the only thing you can do is go back or die.

Biffolo2 votes

I just want to say, each one of those things you mentioned works pretty well against yasuo and lee, barring the QSS thing for lee. If your team peels, they become much less threatening.

Lee can Q > R >Q or Q > Q >R or Q > Q> E > R and kill a carry with little to no reaction options available.

Yasuo, likewise, can Q (knockup) > R > Q > E and kill a carry in about 1.5 seconds from when the tornado lands.

Can they be peeled? Absolutely, sure. But Malphite has to sit there and wail on you for awhile to kill you, giving you plenty of time to flash / QSS away / get peeled / simply walk it off if you have some self peel. Lee and Yasuo will end you in under 2 seconds, and very few things will be able to save you.

Biffolo1 votes

Your reaction options are don't get hit by q, dont let him be in melee range to qrq you, dash away just before the second q connects so he lands a little ways away. It takes a bit of practice but you can avoid insecs this way. Yasuo has a pretty telegraphed skillshot, so if you get hit by that you deserve to die. He's also an assassin, every one of them can kill you in 1.5 seconds, that's kind of their job.

ChaoticPinecone5 votes

its because burst.

why do people still reminisce about the tank meta? Why dont people complain about Amumu with his insane winrate? Why isnt Trundle or Malphite being complained about? because even though they can kill you, they do so slowly. Malphite might kill you in lane, but it takes at least some poke and his ult to be off cooldown. You can still react to their entire combo - even fight back for a relatively long time - before you die. a split second shield reaction doesnt dictate whether you die or not (think of trying to CC zed as soon as he ults or CCing Leblanc mid-dash).

LankPants3 votes

You can still react to their entire combo - even fight back for a relatively long time - before you die.

I think you're actually hitting on a point that a lot of people miss here. Sustained damage has more innate counterplay than burst.

If it takes an Amumu 5 seconds to kill you that's 5 seconds in which you or your team can react to Amumu. Burst doesn't work this way, either you die instantly or you don't. Speaking very generally burst is more susceptible to stat-check situations, where if you have the correct item you'll live and win and if not you die and lose.

That's not to say it always works this way, there are lower counterplay sustained champs like Ryze, but as a general rule of thumb this tends to hold true.

Joe Dredd4 votes

zed burst takes 3 seconds to complete Talon kills you in about .75 seconds. Boards only complains about zed.

The Bearded Bard3 votes

I think that's mostly because Talon's got mana costs, his only escape is his ult (or his E in certain situations), and overall lower range on his poke.

I think an easy way to make Zed feel less oppressive in lane is to take away his passive on minions.

Joe Dredd3 votes

Champions having mana costs is such a lame excuse at this point. Believe it or not, you can spam much harder on mana champs than energy.

The Bearded Bard7 votes

I'm gonna have to disagree on that one.

I'll use Ahri for example since she's kind of in the middle of mana hungry and not.

At level three she's gonna have 428 mana total.

Point in each spell means 65 mana for Q, 50 for W, 85 for E.

200 mana for your full combo. That means you can cast your full combo twice before going too oom to cast another spell. Now of course, she does have mana regen. Ahri gets a massive 8.5 mana back per five seconds at level three, meaning it only takes her around 40 seconds to regen enough to use her wave clear ability (Q). Of course she could start Doran's Ring and take that 40 seconds down to probably around 30, I'm not gonna do the math on that one.

Now let's take a peak at Zed.

Level three he's got 200 energy total.

Point in each spell means 75 for Q, 40 for W, 50 for E.

Full combo is going to be 165 energy. I know that seems like a lot, but here's why it's not. For every spell that hits a target multiple times, Zed will refund 20 energy (going up per level, but we're talking lvl 3 only atm) so we'll go with the more realistic spell hitting, Q. Hitting the double Q is gonna bring that energy cost down to 145, enough leftover to cast another E. On top of that, remember Ahri's 40 seconds to regen enough for a Q? Zed regens 50 energy per 5 seconds, so at level three it only takes 10 seconds to regen enough to use your Q again. That's assuming you miss your spells. On top of that, Ahri's Q mana cost goes up while Zed's Q and W energy costs go down with levels and his energy return goes up with levels.

Energy costs are just slightly longer cooldowns for those people that miss their spells. The fact of it is, you can spam just as much any non-mana user, you just can't miss and expect to not run out of energy.

LankPants1 votes

zed burst takes 3 seconds to complete Talon kills you in about .75 seconds. Boards only complains about zed.

Zed's burst combo takes about 0.75-1 second to complete, it takes 3 seconds to resolve. If you don't have a way to block the damage you will take that damage in ~2 seconds after Zed peaces out regardless of what you do.

The biggest difference between Zed and Talon is that Zed is far safer and has an easy getaway. Neither of them are exactly good designs but I'd argue Talon's slightly less horrible just because he has to commit and if he does fuck up he dies for it.

Joe Dredd5 votes

Yea because being cced to hell by some unkiteable trash who is full tank and dying in their combo is fun. Fuck tank meta, it was literally the worst. I actually prefer assassin meta to it (I mained caitlyn back during tank meta and I still would've rather played her into assassins than tanks). I'd like both players mistakes to mean something, not only mine.

LankPants1 votes

I'd like both players mistakes to mean something, not only mine.

What, like how Lee ults you and ward jumps away after making a mistake? Or like how Zed can just pop back to his ult shadow? How about Ekko's literal "undo a mistake" button?

Honestly assassins pay the least for their mistakes out of any class, the ones who do actually pay for their mistakes are the ones this community actually hates like Akali.

The Yetii Rider2 votes

Thing is, there's not much you can do to change Malphite's kit other than straight rework it.

Malphite isn't doing too much damage, and him being too hard to kill isn't really the issue either. He just has an AS slow and an armor steroid that is always active, which is quite annoying and gives him more damage for building tanky.

I guess you could remove the armor buff from his W entirely, but that's a whole lot of strength to just rip out. Not sure how you would compensate.
