@meddler: its been 3 patches since the boot enchant removal and you havent dealt with the fallout

your only acknowledgement so far was a buff to ghost (which is nice and deserved), but i havent seen any actions for the champions that were negatively impacted by it.

i dont know about other champions except for yorick and nasus being affected, but it cant be coincidence that garen who was in a genuinely balanced spot crashed and burned with the same patch.

for anyone who doesnt believe me, look at this first pls.

http://champion.gg/champion/Garen

its at the very least evidence that its not just my personal feeling playing the champ, that hes generally in a terrible spot right now.

are there any actions being taken to compensate the champions who have been negatively affected by this change? i havent seen much on the PBE these last couple of weeks.

The sad thing was I felt like boot enchantments were a success that made things more diverse...I guess not

they said they wanted less mobility in the game in general. probably partially due to how unrealiable skillshots became mid to lategame because of it. i dont actually know, because they never really explained this change.

but a change as this naturally hits the ability for low mobility champions to make plays harder than champions who already have a load of mobility in their kits.

it also reduces the option of alacrity boot rushes to give low mobility champs a slight spike in mobility to keep up with ranged champions or very mobile champions who focus on other items first.

i can understand the reasoning why they might wanted to remove the enchants, but i dont understand why they just did it but not actually cared about what effect it might have.

I mean like, the enchantments did a lot more than mobility. Only two (alacrity and furor) provided movement speed and it was really only alacrity that was a problem when paired is swiftness + mobis. Everything else was a niche or diversity pick which I thought was perfect for the game

yea. thinking about it, they could actually take the tenacity and auto attack damage reduction from tabi and merc treads and could have made them enchantments aswell.

would have been interesting and actually made boots more customizable to the game youre playing.

They could have removed just the movespeed enchant or changed it to be out of combat speed, but no, riot had to remove all of them because of one enchant they "couldn't seem to balance"

Like I understand the initial point for getting the movespeed enchant was to help in roaming, and that it was just being built by everyone for raw movespeed, but if the point was truly just to help roaming while still being able to buy a boots with a specific stat (i.e. armor) then it shouldve just been changed to out of combat, like moby boots.

It's difficult to say whether Garen's problems (which are only even to the extent of losing ~2% across two patches and hovering very slightly under 50% winrate) are due solely, or even in part, to the boot enchant removal. At the very least, he certainly hasn't "crashed and burned".

Frankly, I would expect it to be far more related to the prevalence of Swain, Darius, and Irelia, as well as other associated nerfs to sustain in general.

looking at his general winrate alone, it looks less bad than it actually is.

before 6.9/6.10, the statistics showed that he had between 55% and 57% winrate on experienced players with 52% overall. this is normal for a balanced champion. most champions, even when they have below 50% average winrate have usually a much higher winrate for experienced players.

so even before that patch he didnt have a spectectular win or playrate, but you were able to do well if you knew the champion.

right now he sits at 4% playrate and not even experienced players are able to perform well on him.

i just feel a lot weaker playing him, than i used to, even against matchups that arent swain or irelia.

i wouldt care if his general winrate was at 30% if you could still perform well on him if you knew the champion.

and swain is permabanned right now. as far as irelia goes, garen should be able to counter her at least by midgame. if he cant, then something is wrong.

irelia is a fighter who has offensive mobility and is focused on diving and picking off targets. garen should be able to handle a champion like that in a direct fight. its practically his only job, to shut these snowballing fighters/assassins down.

1.9/10?

I'm just going to assume you meant that to be a 6.

Regardless, champ.gg doesn't keep data for experienced winrate by patch (which would actually be a lovely idea, since you could track how changes affected different levels of players over time, but would also be complicated as all hell) so I'll take your word on that.

All the same, the winrates by experience are often wonky, and may reflect players who are slow to adapt (otherwise why else would players with 5-15 games on him be sporting the highest winrate?) so I find it difficult to say exactly what's going on with Garen.

yes, 6.9 i fixed it.

and before this patch garen was stable in winrate for month. he looked like any champion should. below 50% winrate for people new to him, and much higher for people who are experienced on him.

either way, it looks terrible for him right now.

i just want to be able to pick him again without feeling like shit. he just doesnt feel like he has a real impact anymore.
