I don't want to wait till season 8 to get autofill removed.

We literally went through all of season 6 for dynamic queue to be removed. Don't give us that bullshit "AFter listening for a year we decided to listen". NO we are saying it now. It hasn't even been a month since the season has started the game won't explode if this change happened. Honestly, I think preseason should have been extended to after the holidays....

Riot won't remove autofill because it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do: Reduce the mmr gap in games and significantly reduce queue times for plat+ players. I've played 283 ranked games on my main during time off from school and I've only played support 12 of those games. I can live with being autofilled into support 4% of the time, and so can you.

yay nibbers5 votes

Not to mention role selection with auto-fill is still WAAAAAAAAY better than what we had before (pick order). I don't get how people can complain about auto-fill when before it was always auto-fill. Pretty much anything is a step up from what we had before, and if I'm forced to support once or twice to make it work then so be it.

Awesomedude88883 votes

Role selection without Autofill > Role selection with autofill > Pick order. Just because something was worse before doesn't mean we have to compare what we have now to that.

School got out 2 days before the season started. I've only been working 2 days a week since then so I've had tons of League time.

Agreed. Some people just refuse to deal with the consequences of their own requests. They wanted soloQ back, but Riot wanted to maintain DynamicQ, now FlexQ, so they had to make do. Now Autofill is there to ensure both are playable and with bearable queue times.

And then people come and say 'i´d gladly wait 10 minutes if i got to play my main roles'.

Saying isn´t doing. In fact, i´m 1000% sure people would come and complain about long ass queue times 5 attoseconds after Riot got rid of autofill.

'Hurr durr, 10 minute queue times, fix this shit, Riot.'

The League community is never satisfied with anything.

Riot added autofill in an attempt to fix long queue times back in S6 in high ELO, people there complained. Riot brought back soloQ, people complained they weren´t getting free ELO boosts anymore. Riot decided to keep both queues, with autofill, to make queue times shorter, people complained.

They basically want a cause without an effect, which isn´t how things work. Everything is gonna have a consequence. And autofill, in this particular case, is the consequence. Matchmaking health, on the other hand is a different problem entirely and has literally nothing to do with autofill.

Ben Sharpio8 votes

oh yeah and while youre at it make Solo Q ACTUALLY Solo Q and not "2 duos and 1 solo player queue"

Glory ln Death4 votes

Solo Q becomes solo only, but retains autofill. Flex Q and Normal Draft remove autofill.

Solo Q now fulfills it's purpose of testing players' individual skill, and requires players to be decent in all aspects of the game, rather than one trick ponies. Skill is measured not just by one or two roles, but at least partly in every role.

Xonra5 votes

As much as I would like that IF I got the roles I wanted, it would be garbage. With Duos at least thy are usually going bot together so you aren't having to support. If we got solo only, there is no way autofill would be turned off.

NO ONE would ever support.

Octavia2 votes

Indeed.

But at this point I'd absolutely accept dynamic only without any shadow of a doubt.

Or even as a temp measure, turning off autofill in dynamic for Season 7 and then merging the queues back together with no autofill in S8.

But not what it is now. Not like this, it's so bad I just can't play, I have no fun at all.

Xonra5 votes

Can't agree with the Dynamic only part, friend.

DQ was terrible mixed in with the autofill mess (because autofill was still there, just not as in your face about it as now, and mostly only the second half of the season as "hardcore").

I would much prefer the old champ select/queing combo over autofill. I actually got the roles I wanted far more in the old system as I do now oddly enough, which seems....very very backwards and feels like a big "what's the point?".

I see the comments about "well there is just a bottleneck because of supports" but to be blunt, whether people want to admit it fully, the NEW system created the bottleneck as bad as it is now, and not the other way around.

I love the idea of going "I want to play top/other role" but I don't love the idea of going "top/other role" and the game going "Lol that's too bad, someone didn't want to support, so good luck". as I suddenly don't want to play that match, because I didn't want to play support <_< Let alone for the next half hour.

Octavia1 votes

(because autofill was still there, just not as in your face about it as now, and mostly only the second half of the season as "hardcore").

Then delete it completely

there was nothing wrong with dynamic queue having long queues, at least you got the role.

Now it's undone the thing dynamic queue was meant to bring.

Autofill is a shit solution that doesn't solve anything and a complete joke, worst system they've ever had.

Xonra2 votes

DQ was still an unwanted mess of a Queue catering to casuals (Riot flat out said this in very slightly different wording) over Hardcore ranked players.

I get the appeal of it, but I think it is better left as flex queue on the side now.

I do still agree that Autofill is a shit solution though, regardless of both of our opinions on the queuing in general.

All one trick ponies in a nutshell. [slayer-jinx-wink] But seriously, I'd rather play a few games as a support for lower queue times than wait around 10-20 min for a game.

Octavia2 votes

Well obviously, they give a feature then suddenly take it away again on the grounds of the queue times being too long.

But the fix they came up with didn't do anything towards queue times as everyone skips, so it's just fucking with people for no reason and ruining the fun.

But seriously, I'd rather play a few games as a support for lower queue times than wait around 10-20 min for a game.

Cool, but that's not what is happening because everyone skips so queue times are not reduced.

And if you are fine with playing support then queue for support in the first place for fast queue times and then you won't have a "10-20" (was more like 5-10 even at high elo) wait, how about that?

Then you can leave me to do my 5-10 minute wait for the role I actually want, and you can get the support which you are fine with having.

Itsbeghdev2 votes

Just because they're fine with support doesn't mean they want to get it over some other role that they have an ever so slight chance of getting if they queue support.

Octavia2 votes

"ever so slight"

it's hardly "ever so slight", ever so slight would be like 1/100 not 1/8.

Just because they're fine with support doesn't mean they want to get it over some other role

Cool, then queue for it whenever you don't want to wait, 1/10 games, whatever you want, don't make me pay for it and fuck up my game in return.

LegendaryGamer832 votes

All this dodging would never happen if everyone (mostly one tricks) stopped crying about how they didn't get their role and learned an actual support. All it takes is picking up a Braum or Thresh , playing a few games with them, and boom. Problem solved. As a support, your only objective is to not feed your ass off and protect your adc, and you just won bot lane, and possibly the game.

It's not "crying", it's that we do not like playing the role and we cannot reach the level we are at other champions in support NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, AS

You cannot expect anyone to master all roles, that's why people are one tricks in the first place, they've found their best champ so they use it over and over

. All it takes is picking up a or , playing a few games with them, and boom. Problem solved

Utter BULLSHIT. You think that playing a couple of games of a random support makes you diamond? Absolute total bollocks, you think one tricks have never played the other champs?

I have played every champ, probably miles more than you, that doesn't mean I can play them all at diamond level.

I can play any champ at gold level. I cannot play support at diamond.

Whatever rank you are, why are you that rank? Why don't you just get 100 farm by minutes? Why don't you have 5 kills by minute 10 by roaming? Why are you in that rank when it's SOOO EASY to go higher?

You act like you play a champ and boom, challenger. No.

As a support, your only objective is to not feed your ass off and protect your adc, and you just won bot lane, and possibly the game.

Which at any normal ELO is literally the opposite of the truth, do that and you've got yourself a free lose because you haven't made any plays or done anything at all.

Plus just TRY do that at diamond level, watch yourself get destroyed by a true diamond support who has far more skill in the role. It's ok saying "JUST DONT DIE ITS SO EASY" but that's not how League works.

I don't expect you to master all roles, nor did I say you should. I'm just saying be at least be somewhat competent with all roles. Also, champs can overlap roles. I have no problem if you main someone like Nautilus top and play him sup because of autofill because he can also be considered a support. You don't like it? ok, you're telling me you like losing LP. You don't have to like it, you just have to do it, and do it decently.

Utter BULLSHIT. You think that playing a couple of games of a random support makes you diamond? Absolute total bollocks, you think one tricks have never played the other champs?

Actually, you could make it to diamond playing a few games with said support you are practicing. If you one trick a champ, say having maybe a 65% winrate or higher would be good. But since you can't and don't know how to play support, you lose all your games when you do get autofilled unless you get hard carried by a godlike player on your team. You would climb sure, if you can't play sup and one-trick, but you can climb much faster if you learn a support and apply the knowledge into your autofill games. Also, it prevents you from wasting your team's time by being paired up against a boosted animal that can't support.

Which at any normal ELO is literally the opposite of the truth, do that and you've got yourself a free lose because you haven't made any plays or done anything at all.

What I said is your main job when it comes to supporting. Support your adc, and said adc will carry the games, unless they are potatoes. You don't have to make godlike plays, you don't have to think that you have to be freaking Madlife tier support just to win a game. Just support your adc, peel for them during teamfights, and that's the game. ADC's can solo carry as long as they don't get raped by a Rengar or Talon , and that's your primary objective. protect them. If they can do fine without you in teamfights or skirmishes, go peel for your midlaner or jungler and try making some picks. As you climb elo, you also have to learn to roam at appropriate times, split-push with your adc and protect your team with item 3107 anditem 3190 but your primary objective always is, and always will be to protect.

Arsenic Sulfur5 votes

Well too bad. Supports would bottleneck the system and Crazy Diamond Riot can't fix the support role in a way to make people want to play it without making supports the end all be all. It's still better than S4's "You're last pick? Fuck you I'm heading mid have fun."

Xonra8 votes

It is way better to screw up games out right by pushing someone into an important role (even with as jacked up and as much as people are complaining about ADCs right now, support is still super important), that has never played it, so that guy who only wants to mid can keep getting mid faster.

It is still taking forever, seeing people dodging out of getting support, or refusing to actually support in game, flat out feeding (not intentionally), having no clue what to do or buy, or just dying once and trolling.

Sorry, but I'd rather have 3-4 minutes longer (or even 5+) than sit in queue 2 minutes and have a support who doesn't want to be anywhere near bot lane, let alone support.

At this point I preferred the old way. At least then half the team weren't roleplaying mimes in champ select, and refusing to talk.

RavenHusky7 votes

Without some form of autofill, the lack of supports would still bottleneck the system, meaning that eventually, games never start to begin with. Autofill is the compromise between role select and everyone fighting over roles from season 5 and prior. Everyone gets to frequently play their desired roles in exchange for being required to support once every few games.

Xonra8 votes

The system alone has driven AWAY supports, so it really isn't turning out to be healthy. I myself used to CHOOSE to be a support, and I relished being last pick in the old system, because while no one wanted support, I didn't care one bit, and WANTED to support.

With the new system it kind of annoys me that if I ever want to not play support, I have to game the system essentially, and eventually it will force me into the support role whether I want it or not. That has made multiple people who don't mind playing support want to not queue up for it at all to not have to always do it.

The idea behind the system was great, but every change in it, including the implementation, has actually made it worse, and not better.

RavenHusky6 votes

The lack of supports was the result of support secondaries getting put into support nearly 100% of the time because there was no one else for the system to pull from. Those supports got tired of playing support every game, and stopped queuing support, resulting in longer and longer queue times for everyone.

Autofill is as aggressive as it is to allow people who willingly support to play their primary role more often, in addition to reducing queue times.

This is one of those things where because no one wants to support, everyone has to. Just bite the bullet, take your turn supporting when it comes up, and move on.

AMYS GRAVE5 votes

I play support primary, and i've had games with two other support primaries, all of us not getting support. We had an autofilled support.

Autofill isn't doing what you think it is.

Xonra4 votes

Have had this my fair share of times. Queue up primary support just to get autofilled Top, or the most awkward of all, Mid. And just sit there going "yeah I call b.s on that one".

I can't in a million years ever believe the system couldn't find someone wanting to mid, and needed a mid so bad that it plucked me from WANTING to support, to go mid. Only to get into game and seeing someone throwing a full blown hissy fit cause they queue'd up as mid and got autofilled support. Makes me head scratch.

Where did you get that statistic?

Do you realize how much people were complaining that "support secondary = 100% support." Do you not remember when "Fill = support"? Do you not remember how much people hated it, to the point that support secondaries stopped putting support secondary because they would never get any other position?

I doubt its 17% of the population that are support mains. When I can put support secondary and get it 100% of the time (well, closer to 95%, but you get the idea), thats a problem with not enough supports. From personal experience, I remember when a Top/Mid queue would take 3 minutes to pop but a Support/Support Secondary/Fill took 20 seconds - to me that indicates a bottleneck for supports.

Leetri3 votes

Or the good old Team Builder days. Find a lobby in 20 seconds, spend 30 minutes drudging through troll supports and supports who instantly dodge because they didn't like the ADC pick, eventually you get so fed up you allow the Teemo Support just so you get to play a game today. Or you pick Support and are in a game in 1 minute.

Teambuilder is a different beast from Autofill. Same principles to champ select, but when your Rank is on the line (instead of just a normal win or loss) people have more of a desire to carry.

And the bottleneck became a problem as the season progressed because Riot didnt put enough emphasis on first choices. As more people who put X/Support got put into support, they realized they have to queue as a non-support secondary to get a moderate chance at playing their main role. This increased the bottleneck at support.

In Season 8, autofill is removed. But a new "shift queue" will be implemented to replace solo queue. Where to lower queue times, your mmr may be shifted up or down to find good matches.

We gotta wait for Season 9 I guess.

Thought that said "shit queue" and I didn't even bat an eye.

RavenHusky3 votes

That's how the queue works normally, and why games were so bad last season. Because of the long queue times caused by the lack of supports, the queue would expand the elo range that it could pull from until two complete teams could be made.
