Masteries problem with Vladimir

With the new masteries, I am forced to start with 0 AP on Vladimir. This is because I take the spellvamp masteries instead of the AP/AD per level masteries, also I use movement speed quintessences instead of AP quintessences on Vlad, due to his naturally low base movement speed, as they allow me to not be kited as easily.

The problem is that I start the game with 0 AP. This makes Vlad do much less damage during the early game, although the masteries I take allow me to have much more sustain.

Although Vladimir is meant to have a weak early game, I would like to know if I could solve this problem. Here are the masteries I use for Vlad:

This was something that the old masteries were better. They allowed you to start with AP/bonus AD in the early game without relying on runes.

It's basically like this for every AP/AD champion. You don't get any starting AP or AD from masteries unless you want to lose out on spell vamp and lifesteal, but honestly if you are so intent on getting the AP get rid of your move speed quints. You can't complain about not being able to start with AP, but then say you are running move speed quints instead of AP quints. It's a choice everyone has to make, not just Vlad.

The problem is that I used to not have to be able to make this choice.

Now I am forced sometimes to start without AP/bonus AD unless I take AP/AD quints or I use the AP/AD masteries because my champion does not rely on spellvamp or lifesteal.

The AP you got from the mastery before was damn near nothing anyways. You might have started with an extra 3 AP, which isn't really impactful. Like I said, your best bet is just getting AP quints if you are so intent on getting the extra AP.

Actually I used to be able to start with 8 AP, 11 if I used Doran's Shield.

All Mastery choices should come at opportunity cost.

It's why I don't like the %Pen masteries. Armor pen vs magic pen isn't a meaningful choice on the vast majority of the cast. They should be reduced a little bit, combined, and then paired up with some new mastery.

I honestly like the MOAR sustain vs MOAR damage choice players are forced to make.

Get ap quints and start item 1001 4*item 2003 or item 1001 item 2031

Or forget about cdr/magic resist on blues and take AP instead (still primary runes)

Then go with AP quints. When you get in game you can get item 1001 and 4 item 2003.

You do know that if you wanted to start with flat AP you would use your runes for that right? masteries gave you pitiful amounts of flat AP until the late game and even then it wasn't anything you would die if you didn't had
