What's up with the mmr difference?

So I recently read a post where there was an explanation about map sides and winrate, that one side of the map has a higher mmr rating because that side of the map has a lower winrate, but the things I am saying are just insane.

I am gold 3 Earlier today I played a game against a full plat V enemy versus a full gold 3 team with the addition of a silver 1 orianna in our team. We lost, orianna went 0/15 against plat V zed 16/4. The game after I had a matchup full gold vs full gold, except for a silver 2 and a plat V. Lost again. Then I get a game where we are full gold versus a full silver 2/3 team.

Now either my elo gets chunked by a 100 mmr per match or this is just plain stupid. First I have to play against against players that are above my ability and then I have to play against a complete circus of clowns? How can I find a suitable playstyle for my elo this way?

Yes you can say but it's all about mmr, and you have the same mmr so division doesn't matter. Well I looked some of these people up and by no means were the silver players snowballing lp af and neither were the Plat V's in massive losing sprees. This is just the fucked up balancing act of riot trying to fix DQ.

Games get matched strictly by MMR.

What division you are is just a shiny badge to show off more or less. A bad Plat 5 can have a MMR that is mid-low Gold. A good Silver can also have a MMR that is low-mid Gold. Win rate isn't a 100% accurate measurement of MMR. For example, if a Silver 2 player is maintaining a 50-50 win rate at Gold 3 MMR, they will retain that MMR.

For example, this is one of my S2 to S1 promo games:

The two enemy Plat players had very bad MMR ffor their division, while mine was extremely good for my division. Our MMRs met in the middle and we got matched against each other.

Oh, and.....

DISCLAIMER: I am merely stating how the system works. Whether you think its good or bad is up to you

Yes based on mmr alone these matches might seem fair, but once you put an experienced platinum V zed who had a losing spree versus an unexperienced orianna that had some lucky wins in a row, that's when shit hits the fan and you can simply see that the lower elo players lack technique and game knowledge, you can almost predict their mistakes. That shouldn't be the case.

Not always though. This is how that game turned out.

MMR wont adjust much for a single win streak unless its a huge one. Like a 10 game win streak. My overall win rate was at 70% which is why my MMR was so high

You seem to be pretty certain about this, and I notice a lot of people post stuff like this saying "this is how the it works" as if their speculation is some authoritative statement of fact. ---> I'm just curious if you worked for Riot or have examined their code in some capacity, or what is the basis for you to know exactly how their match making system (which afaik is information that they have intentionally withheld from the public so that it can't be abused) works?

Riot withholds exactly how MMR is calculated and people's exact MMR numbers.

They have never withheld that MMR is how match making works. So your point is kind of invalid

You said, "Games get matched strictly by MMR." Which is obviously not true. For example, it is well known and disclosed by Riot that queue times play a significant part in determining match making. This is just one example, that is publicly disclosed, not to mention whatever is not publicly disclosed.... If you want another example, it is well known and disclosed by Riot that considerable efforts are made to match pre-made groups and solo players up in a fair way. This attempt at fairness in matchmaking is by definition NOT determined "strictly by MMR".

There is considerable reason to believe that other, not publicly disclosed, factors figure into Riot's matchmaking formula (for example: that win/loss streak is taken into account somehow).

True, but Rito has loosened up the mmr ranges for a match to try and alleviate the queue time issues caused by dynamic queue and new champ select.

If Riot thinks this is acceptable, then any matchup is possible:

That unfortunately has to do with new to ranked accounts being started at mid Silver MMR. I agree its pretty BS. People should start at the bottom and have to work their way up IMO

Well thats not how elo ratings work. Everyone starts at middle of the pack and then finds their place. Thats how it universally works, not only in LoL, but also in other games eg chess.

Now i am gonna explain why. Lets assume your suggestion is implemended. If everyone started at bronze then there should be another division for where people drop after they loose games. Let's call it Wood division. What would happen is that bad players would all gather there, average at bronze and the last would find the new players. So Bronze would become the new Silver and Wood the new Bronze.

Furthermore Riot has implemented some twists on the placement issue to make it more fair. Normal mmr slightly affects the mmr of newcomers and your previous season mmr affects both your placement mmr along with what place you will get after placements. I had high gold mmr while doing placements and while i had 2-3 wins i got into gold V. Thats the second season i do that.

I was on a winning streak and in my promos and I got matched up twice with my teammates being on a losing streak. I don't understand that. Mmr and matching making systems are terrible

I read somewhere that during your promos you most likely get worse teammates to see if you "belong" there. In fact it is just a shield to prevent too many people from ranking up imo especially in the higher tiers.

That's just what happens in DQ/group queue, the system just tries to throw these horrible groups together in an attempt to balance things.

Just a few days ago, I had a game where I had an adc who it was his first year playing league. I checked his profile and had nothing for his ranked games last year. He is doing extremely bad in game and it looks like he does not know what he is doing and playing really aggressive for an adc. I knew it was bad. I check after the game his rank only to find that he isnt even ranked yet this late into the season. He literally plays less than 15 games this season and won only two. He was really bad. His average kd was like 2/14 and im not even lying. What does this have to say about my mmr when ive been winning my games up to that point and that guy barely even entered the ranked scene and isnt even placed? Im S4 so I dont know how he got matched up that high and not with the bronzies. I dont think it goes strictly off of mmr at all because that should not happen.

I have noticed the same since they changed solo ranked in s6. I was gold 3 - 1 last season but I often get put in teams with s4 s5 or sometimes p1 p2. I think lol is dying down and in order to shorten q time riot decided to stretch the range of mmr on both teams. That's my best guess. I'm pretty certain about this because I didnt have this problem before.
