Since Rune Pages are Gone, Would an AS Doran Item Not Make Sense?

AS heroes feel the most hurt by the removal of rune pages. While it's true that they have good keystones, they have fewer ways to experiment with other keystones especially for early game. item 1043 does not give exclusively AS either if that's what you're after, unlike similar costing AD,AP items like item 1037 item 1038 item 1058 item 1026 It would open up a lot of options if there were Doran AS items. Master Yi could go for Essence Reaver earlier in the game when he needs the mana most thanks to having AS dorans. and now item 3086 costs more. I just find if you want some supplimental AS early on without completing an item and going with boots other than item 3006, it can be rough.

It also especially makes more sense to have AS Dorans since there are no AS Elixirs either.

I feel like a lot of heroes could make use of it, including supports like Taric Alistar Bard Braum who have kits that can take advantage of some AS.

8.11 introduces some nice AD item, and these could be incorporated on more heroes with the help of AS dorans, like the item 3508 + MasterYi example above.

This doran item could cost the same as item 1056 (400g) and have only 60 hp. or even 50 hp and the rest focus on AS stats. Or it could cost in between 450 gold like item 1055 and 400g >> 420g anyone? 50 HP 15 AttackSpeed or 10AS and an AS oriented Passive. (maybe gives ms while AA a champion?)

Also daggers are meh at just item 1042 300 gold, it's not at all slot economical

You get attack speed passively through going into precision. Otherwise you don't. Either way it's your choice, but you have a good way to get some attack speed if you want it.

ya I acknowledged that the go to AS keystone gets the job done. What I'm trying to highlight is that by being essentially restricted to Precision it limits our amount of options if you want to be effective from early to mid game, which is what Runes+Masteries were (and now keystones) are there for. It used to be you could go AD runes or AS runes and change masteries based on what you had.

this kind of tweaking would possible if we had a more reliable AS item to sit on in the early game. Example, this is why we have Adaptive keystones for heroes that want either AD or AP based on their path. And so this opens up the sorcery page even if you're AD. Heroes that want AS always have to go precision.

Being able to get sell your doran to complete a big AS item could allow you do get by without precision.

I know, but there are far bigger holes in the current rune system then "if you want attack speed you have to go into precision." So many champions are lacking keystones, runes being completely pointless when compared to their counterparts, and some tree's being developed far faster then others and/or in the wrong direction that tbh creating an item that will be used by about 3 champions MAYBE isn't really a priority imo.

Again there are too many holes in the current rune system. Plus if they're looking at adding items, then they should be focusing on AP fighters/diver/bruisers who currently have nothing beyond "Just build mage"

Agreed the current rune system has holes and I know it's still a fairly new system and that more keystones are said to be in the works.
I just hope this posts can bring some attention to this.
And that one of the new keystones could help fill this hole.

Like this idea I wrote, where a keystone could allow you to do this:

A keystone could allow... Dagger to build into a sort of place holder 1100 gold item (or more gold because it's a keystone) that gave exclusively AS and when sold would first revert into a dagger, as opposed to having to sell it all together. Selling it could be at like a 10%discount too (written in the passive). (might discount more since it costs you a keystone)

Mostly just want a discussion like the one we're having to help us flesh things out, would of been better to instead of asking for an AS doran item, for me to just point out this specific hole with listing an AS doran item as just one possible solution.

Hail of blades is about to be released if that helps, but I'd still rather see a keystone for champions that relied on DFT, see scorch be relevant, and an item for AP that has GW and doesn't cost about 3x more then the AD equivalents.

Don't get me wrong there are some champions I'd love this on. Diana would benefit greatly from an AS doran item, but I'd say she'd benefit more from some items that she can build into instead. Currently she can build anything AP because its all the same to her. Hail of Blades will help her, but electrocute was already fine on her. Bloodletter Vial looked good but then riot had it be aram only to crush what little hope we had.

How is Dagger not slot economical?

  1. It's way cheaper than all the other Doran's Items.

  2. It builds into something else so you don't have to sell it later and waste gold.

Plus you can always just opt into Precision to get free AS anyway.

item 1043 only gives 25 as 25% attack speed = Gold 625 15 on-hit damage = Gold 375

that's nearly 40% of it as on hit (which is only really worth while if you're going Precision tree and in precision pick things like Alacrity).

and item 3086 is now more costly.

Maybe if item 1042 built into a sort of place holder 1100 gold item that gave exclusively AS and when sold would first revert into a dagger, as opposed to having to sell it all together. Selling it could be at like a 10% discount too (written in the passive).

Or maybe there could be a new keystone that gave you this option to build daggers into said item.

Another solution still could be a keystone that let's you buy a green AS elixir. this one could maybe cost 300g. It would need to have a delay on when it can be purchased, so only once past the 10 minute mark or something.
