Do people not remember pick order?
Seeing a lot of hate about how autofill is absolutely the worst thing ever. While I agree it might not be the most ideal situation, it's honestly not that bad. It's also infinitely better than the old pick order. With pick order, you got your preferred role even less. Dodging was much more frequent as well. Champ select was much more toxic to boot ("MID OR FEED").
Along with this, there was absolutely no protection for getting preferred roles in a promo. There was absolutely no protection for getting your preferred role after having to play an off role. There was absolutely nothing but RNG preventing you from getting last pick multiple times in a row.
It's a bit weird seeing people being unable to function outside of 2 roles honestly. Playing support one out of ten games really isn't that bad. What is the alternative to autofill? People dont seem to realize that removing autofill wouldnt be a difference of just 5 minutes. It would be much, much longer.
If you're in queue longer, that means Riot hasnt been able to find a match to put you in. That being said, Riot also knows the waiting list for a Silver 3 (for example) mid laner. If it sees that you're like another 10 minutes or so down the list, it'll autofill you. If you have autofill protection, it might bump you up the list and throw someone who was ahead of you into autofill.
On top of all of that, if nobody was autofilled, the wait times would DRASTICALLY increase. Think about it. You queue mid and are like 5000 (or whatever) in line for mid at your ELO. Not only do you have to wait in line behind 5000 people, but you have to wait for every single one of them to get matched with a similar ELO support while almost nobody is playing support.
So while we have all 3 major queues up, there really is no alternative. No, I dont think its 'good', but its a far cry from what people are making it out to be.
