What caused Veigar to become OP?
Previously he was almost never seen in play. But now he's OP. So what happened?

Him being played by the pros, this community are a bunch of sheep.
Popularity increase = an increase of perceived power. If a champion is in more games but win rate stays the same or increases, that champion is winning more games than before, and more importantly are beating more people than before.
You see, this community would rather complain about champions they believe are too strong instead of learning how to play against certain champions. That's why Riot doesn't react to the community's whims with kneejerk reactions anymore. They take a more delicate touch if they do anything at all. I see it as improvement, but many others do not.
A series of buffs.
ya cause he being a pocket pick in worlds = OP, his stun is very avoidable without team coordination.
When his stun got nerfed to no longer be instant, people assumed he was now worthless and stopped playing him. While it did significantly impact him, he was still viable if you were good with him. With the last round of buffs, he now stacks AP faster and his W had less of a delay, so he came back into meta.
he isnt op, just fotm
Buffs+ tp mid meta reducing kill potential in lane.
He now gets AP off of assists. Even if you only have 20 assists in a game, that's still about 100 AP you didn't have before.
Him getting AP off assist now instead of having to be the one to kill the target gave him a lot of extra power. Even if he hasn't got a lot of kills, he can get lots of assist tanks to his stun cage and that gives him lots of AP now compare to before.
Pro play most likely.
Though personally I don't understand why he has two unique mechanics. He has potentially infinitely scaling AP and he has an ability that scales with the opponent's AP. One of those would be enough.
he got buffed like 4 times since the rework...
He was buffed, then played in LCS, AND people usually refuse to change their build path which Veigar feeds off of.
got mini reworked as his old kit was toxic e delay and q being a skillshot made him slightly harder to play G&B can't play anything harder than garen G&B crys that veigar is garbage Riot overbuffs veigar Veigar becomes broken Picked in lcs dominates Becomes Fotm
Also a lot of assassins aren't as strong as they used to be and only zed talon and shaco are able to kill veigar mid and late but are incapable of killing him in lane
I think they made his Event Horizon undashable. I'm positive before you could gap close out of it. Now all you can do it flash it.
hes OP because people dont know how to close out games and stop a game from getting to 40+ minutes
Assassins lost a lot of their edge.
Seen in competitive play for the first time after the void that was 5.4 and he's suddenly OP, god people are stupid.
Have you considered that it might be the buff he was given?
I play a bit of veigar and he shreds ap champs with his ult, so he is a popular counter. His stun can also set up ganks and kills and is considered a very strong non-ultimate ability.
He got buffed plus tp is really good right now cause there are a lot less assasins you need barrier or heal for and tp is amazing on him
well... lets see... his Q hits 2 targets and gives him AP per kill it lands, his W has a 100% AP scaling ratio, he has a fairly large AOE stun that even if it misses, delays you from getitng ot him, or your escape. his R scales not ONLY with his AP, but also yours....
jsut spitballing though...
