Shift AP to AD on Rageblade?

I was wondering if a slight change to Rageblade could help make it more viable. The problem with Rageblade is that it has wasted stats that most champs it could be used on dont need. I'm talking about the 50AP. This item seems to only be really viable on Kog'Maw who stacks a ton of oh-hits, has crazy attack speed, and has multiple AP ratios. Since Rageblade is also a very expensive item (sitting at 3600g), it makes it very unappealing to most champions that could make use of its passive

My proposed change would be this:

CURRENT item 3124:

  • 35AD

  • 50AP

NEW item 3124:

  • 50AD

  • 30AP

You will notice that 5AP is actually lost (+15AD, -20AP) and that has to do with flat AD costing more than flat AP. That number could be lowered to 25AP if necessary. The recipe would have to be changed to avoid losing 10 AP from the Blasting Wand. That would easily be solved by replacing it with an Amplifying Tomb, but increasing the combine cost.

Overall I think this would make the item more appealing to a wider variety of champions. As it sits now its a very expensive niche item that could be so much more with very little change

Yes Diana because Jax absolutely Kayle no Teemo one Tristana can TwistedFate use KogMaw on-hit, ad, and ap Shyvana effectively Udyr. Lets count how many usually build ad primarily with that being the best choice... Tristana Jax (Jax builds ad right?). And Trist has more ap scalings than ad! Of all the people that use it for all it's stats, not just the on-hit and one of the stats, only two would be benefited from your change. Plus the large ap, low ad of the item is the only thing keeping it out of Vayne's grasp...

And that is only the ones that could use it as part of their normal build path. Once you get into off-meta builds there is Annie (on-hit, ap/ad adc) Irelia (can use ap, ad, and as, but not the best utilizer of rage blade) Lulu (as/ap machinegun pix Lulu) Kennen (adc, along the lines of Annie) Leona (ad/ap bruiser, rather than the typical tanky support build) and Syndra (adc, like annie). Those are the only ones I can think of right now.

Not to mention niche items make for interesting options.

well it still wouldnt make sense to build it on Diana Teemo TwistedFate Tristana Annie

Diana is a burst mage. Although I will concede she does have the ability to be an AP bruiser in situations, Rageblade is still eclipsed by item 3115 on her. 20% CDR plus more AP. It also has flat AS as opposed to Diana trying to get 6 stacks on her rageblade which just isnt optimal 99% of the time.

Teemo is similar in that item 3115 is just a better item on him. More CDR, more shrooms. Makes better use of the flat AS as opposed to the ramping up stacks on Rageblade. Still, I guess Rageblade wouldnt be the absolute worst on him.

TwistedFate just flat out doesnt make sense. His main job is extreme burst with some poke. Rageblade just doesnt make sense on a champion that is so burst reliant.

Tristana doesnt have any on-hit abilities to stack in her kit. I mean maybe it stacks her bomb faster? Still seems pretty inefficient. Kind of negates the purpose of the item on the first place

Annie again no on-hit effects in her kit so it doesnt really make sense.

I'll agree some champions that it actually does work on that you mentioned: Jax Kayle KogMaw (which I mentioned in my original post) Shyvana Udyr but it just isnt quite efficient enough on most of those. Probably the best user of this item next to KogMaw is Kayle.

Diana What happened to Ekko happened to Diana, but differently. She was meant to be an ap bruiser, but became an assassin(that double ult burst). If she was meant to be an assassin, why does she have extra as and a "every 3ed aa" passive? And that e does not fit the "kill them as fast as possible" pattern either(she also has no escape, unlike Leblanc, Ahri, Akali, Elise, etc), but a bruiser, who must stay in the thick of things and just needs a way of getting in there? A much better fit. And because of that Rage blade, though not the best on her, can work(I just mentioned that she can use the ad, ap, and as).

Teemo Again, ap, ad, as work well for him. Never said that rageblade was a must have.

TwistedFate Have you never heard of Adc TF? It works well for him and the stacking ap/ad is fun. (also it is a off-meta pick, not a normal item/build)

Tristana With Tristana every aa increases her bomb detonation(both naturally and by the stacking ad/ap), the passive explosion on death, the w impact, and her ult. As an Adc, she will be using aa's constantly, so if you are doing ap Trist(which works great for busting people and taking towers) it is a must have.

Annie Adc Annie is just a screw-around build I do, and it is a on-hit, ap build allowing both her aa's and spells to hit like trucks full of gasoline. And since it is a on-hit build, something that lets you do the equivalent of another aa every two aa's is wonderful(you actually do more on-hit damage than attack damage and the ap makes it so you don't do terribly at taking towers)

So to break it down, Diana intended, yet off meta build can use it, Teemo off meta item for his aa build(instead of mushroom death build), TwistedFate Adc build possibility, Tristana Alternate build who's core is Rageblade, Annie fairly workable off meta build.

Why not just nix the AP entirely and make it an 80AD item? the only one this would actually hurt is kayle. every other rageblader except jax buys it for the phantom and the AD.

I think 80 AD would be super overkill. It would probably be extremely overpowered considering it gives more flat AD than any other item in the game, plus attack speed, AND extra on-hits.

When comparing AD to AP, you cant compare them 1:1. AD costs more than AP. Let me give you an example:

item 1058 (1250g) 60AP: ~21g per AP

item 1038 (1300g) 40AD: ~33g per AD

Not meant to have an appeal to wide variety of champions. Items in the game get fine tuned to specific champions or even a group of champions. Rageblade was turned to hybrid champions that scale on attackspeed so there's no point in having it be more appealing for other champions.

How about give it a base attackspeed so you don't effectively lose stats by finishing the item.

Currently its a "range only" item because you can't safely get the stacks to follow-through on melees.

Even 20% base would make it better, even if you have to nerf the amount per stack.
