I hate business ethics these days and ppl dont hold them accountable

Loot boxes were the infant years of the growing overall unethical behavior from game companies. Now you got season passes now you got micro transactions out the wazoo now you got pre-order-exclusive core content you got SJW twitter drama

and we got sponsored streaming and incentives to watch for exclusive in-game content, that's actually being used to increase the headcount they can show investors and stockholders who just look at numbers.

It's totally fine to do that, but I find it extremely unethical to pseudo-boost your numbers by bribing players. The manipulative move "you'll miss out on free content if you don't watch our streams (that we need you to watch so that we can show TenCent you're watching)"

I don't think some of these things correlate with each other.

People make decisions that are rational to them, if they want to spend their money and leisure time for things then that is up to them. If this signals companies to cater more towards them and offer them more content, then surely the consumer is winning, and the companies are winning too?

People complain about DLC and Microtransactions but people like the content that microtransactions (and DLC) give them.

You can argue that it doesn't cost much to make, but if you were to buy a piece of artwork you would not tell the painter "you can't charge £3,000, the paint, brushes and blank canvas only cost £100" because you're completely disregarding the value of the artist. Level and character designers are no different in that they hold value as artists.

Because there is a conflict between what is ethical and what is best for each individual player. I personally don’t spend any money on cosmetics. That means that all of the riot business tactics reguarding skins are a way for riot to get money from other people to subsidize my own game. I will watch lcs reguardless so the rewards for watching worlds don’t really change my schedule. However, the “artificial” means of getting other people to watch in an attempt to boost viewership and sponsors helps make a better product for me.

There are many instances where players calling out unethical business practices don’t necessarily benefit them. Same thing with stuff outside of league. The lottery (and gambling to some extent) is a tax on the poor and probably not the most ethical practice. However, many people don’t complain about it because it brings money into the community which is not from themselves.

The "watch" missions give blue fucking essence. Dear God you've gotta complete that one or you'll so miss out on exclusives!
