How To Change Fervor Of Battle Without Killing Kayle / On-Hit Teemo

Fervor of Battle is getting a change in the Pre-Season. Currently, it gives you 7-112 physical on-hit damage at a maximum of 8 stacks. This is going to be changed to instead give you 10-60 AD at a maximum of 10 stacks.

So what does this mean? For champions who have high AD ratios and/or build crit it will definitely be even better than before. Just imagine Fiora with her dependance on bonus AD. Renekton who already takes fervor because he can stack it unbelievably fast with his W but does not actually even autohit that much, so the extra AD will be much better on him for his ability ratios. Or Yasuo who also stacks fervor really fast and does make a ton of use of the new Fervor because of his doubled crit chance and his Q AD ratio. Lastly we could place every Marksman but Kog'Maw on here but especially Vayne and Lucian will love the new Fervor, both can stack it really fast and have really high AD ratios, Vayne because of her crit build and Q and Lucian because of all his ability ratios.

But something else that has to be acknowledged and what made me write a furious ragepost the other day, is the fact that there are also a handful of champions who suffer from it a lot.

Shyvana scales much better with attack speed and on-hit than with AD, especially after her Q AD ratio got nerfed. For her, Fervor's damage will almost be halfed late game. She also can't take the next best option, Strength of the Ages, either because it is getting replaced by Courage of the Colossus, a mastery she can't use properly because her only hard CC is her ult.

Kog'Maw already is in a terrible spot right now and the Fervor of Battle changes will make it even harder for him because he also builds attack speed and on-hit and his AD ratios are really bad compared to most Marksmen, he only has one on his ult and his autohits.

But the two champions who are negatively affected by this change the most are Kayle in general and on-hit Teemo. Both have next to no AD ratios, they instead focus on on-hit and AP, so the new Fervor will deal half its damage for these two champions in the late game. And while it's not that much of a tragedy for Teemo since he still has his full AP build at his disposal, for Kayle this is just a disaster - she does not have a good alternative build to go to, AP On-HIt will always be the strongest on her no matter what and literally every other Keystone sucks on her.

So with all that in mind I'm proposing the following change: If your bonus AD is equal or higher than your AP, you will stack AD with Fervor as usual. But if your AP is higher than your bonus AD, instead of getting 1-6 AD per stack depending on your level, you will instead get 1.2-8 AP which is about the same as the AD fervor gives when you look at the gold values.

This would single-handedly fix the situation for Kayle and on-hit Teemo because of their AP ratios. Not only that, it might even encourage other champions who auto a lot and who have a lot of AP ratios to take it - maybe Fizz or maybe even some kind of Nashor's Kog'Maw build. This would safe the situation for Kayle and Teemo without hurting any of the champions who want to take Fervor for the AD.

This still leaves Shyvana who doesn't really scale as well with both AD and AP, as I already said. When it comes to her though we also have to look at the jungle changes - she has both AOE and single target clear, machete gets buffed and because the camps now give you more EXP, powerfarming rather than early ganking is encouraged more than it is right now. That alone might be buff enough to make her take the hit of the Fervor changes without much bruises.

Let me know what you guys think.

Meh. Teemo will be gutted regardless because control wards and dickblade, so he will need serious buffs anyway, and Kayle well deserves some nerfs.

The fact that Teemo can shroom plants now will make up for it. Also if he's going to be gutted, doesn't it make sense that this change would go live just for that not to happen?

On Kayle I agree that she is a very strong champion and that she will be even stronger in the preseason because of all the Assassins roaming around, but I think that she needs to be balanced around her kit rather than making every single Keystone bad on her.

Kayle is too strong right now anyway

The Fervor changes to make it niche for champs with high Ad ratios or that itemize crit is so bad since making Fervor a less generalist means they have to make it worse for a subset of champions who can't effectively use the other Keystones.

I am personally dreading preseason as Kog is gonna be in the worst position as an ADC since his release like I can't even anymore its clear Riot just wants AD Kog as dead and useless as possible. Like why even say you think AP Kog is unhealthy for the game if literally every decision you make after that statement drives Kog players towards playing AP.

I think it's less that Riot wants him useless and more that they haven't the faintest grasp what to do with him. Kog is about as popular as Galio, it would shock me if more than one person on the balance team has any applicable experience with Kog. And We've also been told that if AP Kog ever gets too popular to expect swift nerfs.

Swell.

Who knows man WHO THE FUCK KNOWS ANYMORE. Trying to talk to Riot about Kog is like bashing my head against a wall. Riot is being about as transparent as mud and I don't even know why. Are they so busy jerking it to plants to address anything else? At this point I would be completely fine if they just came out and said "We don't actually give a fuck about Kog right now and don't expect any major changes any time soon." because then at least I would know what their plans were going forward, but right now its just radio silence.

Well in Riot's defense, the new blastcone looks pretty damn sexy.

fervor right now is disgusting.

they honestly should have just cut the value in half and made it 60 on hit damage, instead of 60 ad. go ahead. compare the mastery with grasp on a 4k health bruiser, and thunderlord with 300 ad.

112 physical on hit damage at lvl 18, 2 times per second to multiple targets - fervor 120 magic damage and 60 health regen on a 4k health champion every 4 seconds - grasp 280 magic damage on a 15 second cooldown with 300 bonus ad - thunderlord

do you see the difference?

fervor outperforms them by miles on a single target alone. not to mention it can be applied to multiple opponents with items like hurricane.

the mastery should have been nerfed ages ago. its ridiculous how they kept it so much more powerful than the other damage masteries.
