How come Zilean isn't played more?

Honestly the utility in this champ's kit is astounding. Sure his passive definitely needs to be replaced, but honestly he's got a lot of power especially when paired up with immobile champs. I've started maxing his E first instead of Q and it really does the job. Slows down the enemy enough to land several hits and even set up for a stun. Or you can boost someone like Twisted Fate to land a gold card on an enemy. And then there's a lot of complaints about his bombs now. I assumed that you weren't supposed to really use them for damage and just focus on double stacking it on anything in a team fight. Some people not playing carefully even run into a missed bomb with a bomb already planted on them and stun their whole team on accident. And then there's his godly ult. With enough AP and CDR you can revive people upwards of 2k hp on around a 40 second cooldown if I'm not mistaken. I love the reworked Zilean and he seems to thrive with immobile champs that really do damage when they get to you while also having one of the most powerful stuns in the game on a low cooldown.

Morde-Zilean bot lane is soooooo dumb haha. I showed this to a few friends and it was crazy. You get way more xp than your opponents and you can shove real early so they lose farm to tower and then later zone them away from more xp because you are now further ahead. Zilean makes Morde really hard to kite when you give him that speed boost and for the bomb stun you can either just place them right on Mordekaiser's head for a quick aoe stun or you can slow the enemy down so much that you basically cant miss the bombs. Not to mention that your Morde with gunblade and his shield can let him take so much punishment that it can be hard to kill him in the first place... but then as Zilean you just click R when he is at a sliver of health and hes revived to start his rampage over again.

Because too many people (me) forget that you don't need to land the bomb on the champion you want to stun

He's outclassed.

People have perceptions of strength when champions are changed. When Viktor was changed people whined that he was weak. Veigar was changed and everyone complained he was gutted and was completely useless because his stun was changed to give more counterplay (yes he got a small .25 second w buff but he would still blow you up with his crazy ap stacking and his enemy ap scaling ult). Darius was buffed because people said he was weak after the rework but they just didn't play him correctly but everyone knows how broke he is right now. It's basically the same with Zilean imo. Once a pro uses him you'll see the QQ threads everywhere but it might take some time before that happens naturally like with old Zilean and faker. If Zil gets a buff it will happen sooner.

Because his q is really unreliable compared to most other skillshots, and his stun even more so. His q used to be targeted and he wasn't op then so he's just generally weaker. Also, in solo que, a lot of people don't notice when you ult them right away so you ult someone on your team who is really low and they run out of the fight, then they run back in when they see the zil ult, but the enemies just wait 3 seconds then kill them after it expires. He also needs a competent/fed ally to take advantage of his ult.
