My dad walked into my room while I was watching worlds

The Deckowner··299 votes·11,070 views

my dad came in my room while I watch one of the group stage games, he asked "what are you watching?", at which I replied "worlds of lol." He then left and did his own things, came back 5 hours later, surprised sounding:"how is that game not ended yet?" me:"this is the 4th game already." my dad:"but why is it the same characters still? I thought you said there were 133 characters in this game." me:"..."

Don't star players keep getting used in live sports?

The Deckowner122 votes

You don't see Kobe playing in every basketball game with every team.

warpenguin5552 votes

Huh. True

JavelinJoe23 votes

But the ball is the same.

Ralanr34 votes

No, because he belongs to one team. Champions do not belong to one team.

If teams could own the right to play certain champions, you'd see more diversity as a whole, but less in line ups.

The Deckowner44 votes

isn't that the whole reason why diversity in competetive is shit? basically the korean find out about a new pick or strategy, then all the other team simply copy instead of inventing new ones.

it's like if a team got an all star line up and everyone just use their players. This is why koreans always dominate competetive games, everyone just take their strategy, their pick, their players, instead of getting their own.

Ralanr4 votes

Yeah. I'm not advocating that champion diversity is good, I'm just saying that comparing it to live sport team line ups isn't really a fair comparison.

Champions are tools like the ball in soccer. The difference is that there's so many champions that people will pick the best ones because their terms of winning are more reliable.

If soccer, football, basketball, or even volleyball got a large diverse amount of different balls with different effects, you'd see some balls used more than others because they're more reliable for winning.

LCS doesn't reward you for thinking outside the box. It rewards you for keeping safe pucks.

The Deckowner4 votes

you don't see people going 433 in every soccer game. In real sports there is strategy and counters to every strategy, in league there is the teamcomp with the most op chsmpions and 1 best strstegy, these isn't any counter.

Ralanr7 votes

Yeah. That's the problem I was pointing out. LCS doesn't reward teams for thinking outside the box or trying new strategies, at least not at words (early in the season I think new strategies need to be developed). And it relies on safe champions that can make plays to enhance their strategy or punish the opponents if they make a mistake.

That's why Lee Sin is so popular. He's a massive play maker.

The Deckowner4 votes

it's more like the game doesn't reward "counter" match ups, instead we have the most OP and the less OP, and the more OP champions wins the match up.

Granted I didnt watch worlds this year, but I don't need to. If there was only one winning strategy in the entire game bans would ruin that strategy by taking out at least 3 of the champs needed. One team just picks a strategy that works better than the other.

League is kind of like a 10 player game of chess. The pieces available are all the same but the team strategy and individual skill and moves of each player is what determines the outcome.

Problem with that. It isn't that we're losing because we're only copying their shit, we're losing because they are just straight up better than us mechnically. I once heard that they got those mechanics from being ex-SC2 players, which requires MUCH more macro and micro play than League does

The Deckowner12 votes

You don't see Koreans dominate competetive by just being mechanically good, league is much more of a strategic game than a micro mechanic game.

importing koreans doesn't make the region any better, instead it stops any growth of the region.

I mean, Impact definitely boosted C9's performance, and Lustboy was the best support TSM ever had. But ok.

c9 with korean loses to flashwolves with no korean

strategy>korean mechanic

It might make the team better, but he's saying that actual players FROM NA don't get as much of a chance, thus the region is stagnant, because of importing Koreans into our teams.

I'd actually watch league worlds if there was a real draft.

I love it when kids try to compare games to sports.

Ralanr4 votes

You know league is an esport and sports are games right?

ItsOrval3 votes

sports are physical, sitting down eating potato chips while playing a game isnt something you should be proud of,

Idk man, world is changing and E sports are becoming more and more popular.

Your dad actually remember the "characters" ? lol your dad must be hip. In general, older folks seem confused by modern video games. All they see is chaos on the screen and can't make sense of anything.

Well either that or the story is made up.

But yeah, let's complain about variety in competitive play, then proceed to whine about winrates in plat.

I don't know how I'd ever be comfortable with that.

Him, trying to focus on the game Dad from behind: ,,Yo noob, why the hell didn't you ward that bush, she'll gank you soon. This is why you'll never climb out of Bronze." Him: ,,But dad, you don't even know how this game is played." Dad: ,,Yeah and you're worse than me. I bet I can make it to Platinum faster than you."

Now seriously, my dad once watched me play ARAM while he waited for several papers to be printed and he asked me how old I am to play that [zombie-nunu-tears]

When Rivington or Phreak walk into their son's rooms and see them watching Worlds they start screaming "WHAT WAS THAT!? LOOK AT THE MOVES, LOOK AT THE PLAYS! NOONE HAS EVER DONE THAT BEF...."

etc.

The fact that you couldn't explain why goes to show how much you know about the game.

Iesbian2 votes

The fact that we have to explain that Riot is shit at balance and only 12 champions out of 133 are ever viable shows how much Riot knows about game design.

it be lìke that5 votes

that isn't at all true, 90% of champions are viable on ladder, obviously the professional pool at the highest level of play there would be significantly smaller.

high impact champions that arent as devastating if you have a bad start on. say someone tried to play MasterYi not much depth to him anymore, bloodrazer would get him farmed first off, secondly he has no impact until level 6. he doesnt bring anything to a team fight besides roflstomp damage.

utility > damage will almost always be the case in the highest level of play. or a nice mixture of both.

Huh, same thing happened to me except my dad just said that I'm a gay and need to do something productive. :(

I'm calling shenanigans here. My parents don't even know the difference between LoL champs and pokemon, let alone one LoL champ from another...Something smells fishy here...I detect another "lack of diversity at worlds" hate post...

I don't live with my parents anymore but my dad used to straight up watch my games when he was bored sooo

The Deckowner1 votes

lol maybe my dad is more hip than yours

or maybe you are just 20 years older than I am

Sevixys3 votes

Well, my dad is 40 (relatively young) and can't even distinguish LoL and CoD..

Seriously this.

My dad still calls everything a Nintendo in 2016

"What's that nintendo thing you are playing"

"<_< This is my computer"

This actually happened

MonkeyMadness2 votes

My dad thinks that because I connected my 3DS to our router that I broke it. Had nothing to do with the fact that it was nearly 15 years old and that he tried to change the password but didn't do it correctly and our network had a randomly assigned security key that he failed to write down. No, it was the "Nintendo". At least it was actually a Nintendo product...

TotalJerk9 votes

That totally happened.

Did I miss anyone?... I wish there were some Lux or Karthus players or something :C

Electro5222 votes

I kind of agree with you. I'm not entirely sure why we're not seeing Lux. Sure, her laning phase isn't great, but her teamfighting is fantastic. She could at least go toe to toe with the late game heavy hitters of Ryze and Cass (Syndra and A. Sol.......not so much), and has the same range, if not more than Varus and Jayce. She can kite and poke Vlad, Malz, and Viktor for days, and has the potential to set up ganks as easily as Syndra can.

Out of all of the mid laners, I am honestly confused as to why Lux isn't even being considered. Is it because she's too squishy? Can't lock down people as reliably as Syndra or Malz? Doesn't have the global presence of Ryze or A. Sol? Can't blow people as quickly as Cass or Viktor?

Seriously, why is Lux not getting any attention?

My dad walked in. He heard the announcers. Thought I was watching sports was all like ayyye what yah watching. I'm like Esports. He kinda cringed a lil and left. xD

RainbowIcee2 votes

Maybe they should add a rule that banned chamls stay banned for the rest of the games on a best out a 5 round.

The Deckowner4 votes

well that is basically what is happening cough Nidalee 80% ban rate cough

RainbowIcee3 votes

Well no i mean like let them stack. Whoever gets banned round 1 will still be banned round 2 with more aditions. Same for round 3. If there is a round 4 same thing. Then on like round 5 do an unbanning.

ItsOrval2 votes

My dad would say i am a disapointment for watching worlds, but he already told me that years ago :')
