Mobile champions need downsides.

Champions with dashes or any sort of movement put into their kit need some sort of downside for being able to use them. Champions coming out are being given dashes and a lot of damage as well. Sylas , The mobility that champions have now made them safe while fighting and give them good escape opportunities as well.

Example is the aatrox jump. They had to nerf this because you were not going to be able to get away if he came in on you. Many champions now have the same ability to just dash to you and there is no escape. while albeit not as strong as aatrox

The most infuriating one, In my opinion, is riven. Riven I think she is strong right now with conq and the spear of shojin and im fine with her having damage but the problem is her kit gives her movement and dashes that actually give her too much gap closing potential. She can move faster by q through animations into e to close more ground than characters could walking that distance. The fact at 45 cdr she gets a shield every sec. just adds imo

I really think riven takes some skill to play, getting good at the animation cancels and auto attacks but in reality, the champ is good because her kit has a stun, shield, three jumps, one that allows you to go over walls.
As well riven can outrun many champs by just using the q dashes. While I think this is fair the fact remains that if you catch up again she just q's away again. (unless your champ has cc)

Just an example of a champ with high mobility high damage.

There is no downside to having mobility only not having it.
I think that mobility abilities need longer cooldowns. I think there has to be a clear price with mobility even if its lower damage or just not being to use that same ability to get out. leblanc w (takes no skill to double hit w) yas e (takes some skill to e right direction) Riven q,e(takes skill to animation cancel for autos but no skill to hit q)

Zoe's r one of the most balanced movement abilities, Clear upsides is the extra range on q, closing distance for e's but the down side is you go back to the spot you cast it from. So players can punish that, but some of the dashes do not have such counterplay or such big downfalls. Tryndamere s spin dash is more balanced than riven q's as trynda can't just dash away again immediately.

To me, there is no thought that goes into playing mobility based champions with dashes. As their kits are overloaded goody bags. Yasuo, Riven, Kayn, Irelia, dashes haven given champs over tooled kits that make them better in almost any situation in comparison to champs that don't have dashes.

Abilities have cooldowns. Cooldowsn ARE the downside. For example if Ezreal pops his E he is pretty vulnerable for the next ~20 seconds early game.

A lot of them are already fairly long cooldowns to start. And if you use the ability to get in, odds are you can't get out with it in the same fight unless you're someone like Leblanc, Yas/Irelia on an enemy wave, or someone with a kill reset like Kha'zix/Tristana. (Besides cooldowns, you can avoid Yasuo/Irelia problems by not fighting them inside your minion wave-- it's what they want.)

These are also melee fighter champions who without some type of movement ability would just get kited to hell by the ADC or mid laner. Honestly take a second and think about it. Imagine a Riven walking up to the enemy team without using abilities. My bet is that she's dead either before she can even touch them, or she gets a couple basic attacks off at most.

The cd for ez is a downside as he is a squishy adc. and that's his escape

Im saying fighters like riven and jax with high mobility arent downside by cd when they build cd and damage. Fact riven does not have mana so she does not worry about mana for spells only cd. q lvl 1 is 13 second cooldown.

yas has as many minions in a wave to bounce through, (has to have enemies to dash through) Irelia has to q minions. Riven though can start with q continue with more q's after cd (many champs i give a lot of benefit of a doubt to) yas, zed, irelia. but some champs like riven and jax are bloated stat checkers do to the conq changes and spear of soj.

Dashes lower skill needed as straight forward dashes such as riven just requires q to gain distance or close gaps. while yas's e trades off with having to have an enemy to bounce through. jax's pounce super balanced but late game he can with spear of soj almost go infinite on counter strike.

I mean a lot of these things have clear ways to play against like making ez use e to make him vulnerable. baiting out abilities for plays is big but whats the point. When for example at 45 cdr riven can practically dash all game. When she gets spear of soj she just stat checks everyone cause her autos will cd her abilities.

Of course, they have movement ability, I'm not saying take away their dashes I'm saying that some champs need a drawback for being able to move more effectively.

I like kayn. His primary mobility (the wall phasing) has a massive downside. It only last 1 second incombat. So he can’t use it as an escape as well if he fucks up. The. You get Sylas. Who has zero downside.

Is sylas messes up he type “hehe oops” in all chat and that’s it. No death. Nothing. If kayn messes up, he’s fucked.

I don't know, I actually think Zoe's R is not the most balanced movement ability. While yes she going back to her old spot is a way to counter her and is a good weakness, but I think the fact that she will ALWAYS goes back to her old spot is not balanced, so hitting her with CC when she ults into you doesn't mean anything unless you have some one else near her original spot to flank her or your CC is strong enough to actually make use of it.

It's honestly the main reason why I literally hate that champion to death. Yes her damage is insanely high and her Sleep is strong but I'm fine with that if I felt like I can actually punish her for her ulting forward into the enemy team....I mean outside of killing her in the 0.5 seconds or 1 second she jumps into us, which is like what? Maybe 1 skill? depending on the champion anyways.

But I do agree with what you said overall though, a lot of champions really don't lose anything for having that mobility. Champions who have some strong mechanic like that over others, should have a trade off. An example is as an Anivia main, her egg is her "mechanic" or advantage that is complained about from time to time, but her tradeoff for it is having the lowest HP in the game (at level 1, and the lowest HP at level 18 from all Mages) on top of having no mobility or speed ups and the lowest movement speed. So she pays a lot to have what she has, which is something that should happen more often.
