Why are people up in arms about Jayce specifically, rather than Kennen?

Kennen is so much stronger as a champion at any given point in the game outside of maybe lvl 1-5. He scales better, he teamfights better, he splits better.

Its all focused on Jayce, with Kennen sometimes being included alongside him.

Jayce is just over-tuned. Kennen is actually broken, and hardly anyone mentions him outside of posts that include both Kennen and Jayce.

jayce is arguably much easier than kennen to play, and he can play artillary as well as close and personal, also he is ad.

It's the face. It's so smug and punchable.

Can't argue with that at all.

Kennen isn't a physical damage champion that has a 20% of your health magic damage nuke. You can stack MR against Kennen and be kind of safe. You don't even benefit that much from building armor against Jayce because he rushes cleaver and has even more built in armor/mr shred in his kit. Kennen can't combo you for 40% of your health at level 3-5 for entirely with unavoidable abilities. He has to hit ~7 before he can reliability go for kills solo.

Now Kennen's late game is way way way better than Jayce but that's not what snowballs games and causes a FF at 20. Jayce's early game damage is extremely oppressive while at the same time he is very safe and has the base stats of a melee champion.

Jayce universally maxes his E last...His E only does 20% magic damage after he falls off to an average of sub-47% win-rate for that time during the game.

Also, Jayce is rushing Ghostblade, not Cleaver.

They're BOTH broken. I've brought up Kennen several times in the past. Jayce's actual damage remains unchanged even after the buff. He's just able to use his abilities more thanks to the cost decrease.

The cost changes barely touched him, tbh.

People just realized that if you don't spam ranged EQ, you don't OOM, and then you don't need Tear, hence why everyone's running him full AD/armor pen now.

Take a look at his mana 'buffs'.

Q hammer change doesn't matter outside of all-ins, and it barely touches his total all-in mana costs. He only ever uses this ability in all-ins, for the most part.

E change literally doesn't matter until the point where he's already fallen off. He maxes E last.

+50 base mana didn't make him any more or less reliant on Tear. It changed pretty much nothing.

Jayce's damage is overpowered because it was balanced around him having a less-than-optimal laning phase due to rushing Tear. Considering people realized he doesn't need it, thus started prioritizing armor pen, his damage is simply over-tuned. He's not broken, he just needs slight nerfs to his early game base numbers. His teamfighting is pretty terrible overall.

Kennen, on the other hand, is actually broken. The change they made to his ultimate over-loaded it in both CC and damage. Go look at the changes. More damage, more CC, less time for it all to actually get laid down. On top of that, he got noticeable laning buffs.

Idk, probably his long range 700 dmg Q artillary

His Q artillary isn't even why he's strong atm. Its his laning power, which mostly has to do with the fact that players aren't spamming his EQ, since you need Tear to do that.

Having the option of range in conjunction with hammer stance is why he's strong right now.

The stealth buff to Kennen's W is what I think pushed him over the edge, but he was always strong. His combo is just a lot more fluid now since the difference in the empowered auto windup is gone.

I feel like he was pushed over the edge once they changed his ult during the MYMU. He was getting picked in LCS immediately after that, just his lane counters were strong at the time and he never really got to shine because of it.

If you look at how massive of a buff his ult change was, its frankly absurd.

I just looked at the notes again and you're def right it was absurd. I didn't even realize, I've just been banning the rat. The consistency they added to the ult is crazy considering they ramped the damage too.

I think people feel like there's more counterplay to Kennen than Jayce in lane. In team fights Kennen is horrible to play against but at that point of the game he's mostly making the mid and bot laners tear their hair out rather than the top laner, so...

Kennen's ranged autos are obvs annoying but his proper trades are running in fast, doing damage and stunning you, then walking away. Jayce jumps in, does damage, knocks you back and walks away pretty fast because of his passive MS boost, plus after he disengages he can choose to deal more damage from range. People seem to find that pattern more frustrating. It does help also that Kennen is a little bit vulnerable in melee range while Jayce can always either fight you in melee range with his bonus resists and great damage or knock you back, then run away fast.
