Meddler, you said Assassin items would be made melee only if ranged started using them too much.
When are you gunna uphold your end of the promise?
When are you gunna uphold your end of the promise?
Well, you're not wrong. I Just don't see it happening.
Tbh, either the items will be of marginal use, or they'll be gamebreaking.
There's not a way to push the items more towards assassins without ranged wanting them because both are pure AD classes. As long as it touts pure physical damage, both will want the items.
This means that the items either have to be weak enough that ranged prefer crit builds, or we continue with the mess we have.
Outside of just removing the items, melee only/reduced ranged stats may be the only 'proper' way to fix this for now.
The only other realistic option without making the items useless for everyone would be changing all relevant ADC abilities to magic damage.
Again, you're not wrong, I just don't see it happening.
You're making valid points, and I want to agree and give my opinions. But I feel like your efforts are simply in vain right now
you could find a way to adjust the scaling on assassins vs ranged casters so that the former just needs pen to do their job but the latter needs a lot more AD
somethin like that maybe

Can't do that otherwise we are back to assasins building bruiser
wouldn't it be easier to slow the growth of lethality on ranged champs, like make them start at 50?
What if Assassins had abilities that scaled DIRECTLY with Lethality?
Then the Assassin items could be adjusted so they offer the same power to Lethality-Scaling champs while being less powerful for champs that only scale on AD.
The problem I see is that sometimes you dont want to build Lethality, and scaling abilities with Lethality would probably result in lower AD ratios.
Sometimes assassins want to go tankier - if they arent having problems getting kills with a snowball, or they are getting blown up before getting on a squishy target. Like GBM's Zed in a very un-Zed meta: he made it work by getting a huge lead, but also kept the lead by going Titanic/Steraks/Maw/Deadmans to stay alive in fights once he inevitably wouldnt be able to kill a single target due to Lulu and QSS (back when it removed the Deathmark).
No. Not lower AD Ratios.
The assassin items should just have less AD so that when purchased on an assassin who scales with lethality, they give their full potential damage increase.
The GBM Zed example is just an example of those items being TOO strong at the time. I watched that game, I know what went down.
Assassins should NEVER have a viable fallback option of MULTIPLE TANK ITEMS. MAYBE Steraks is OK. MAYBE Maw is ok. The issue is that every ounce of tankiness that an assassins buys will mitigate their balanceable weakness of being extremely squishy, relying on their maneuverability and / or stealth to survive.
Any time an assassin is able to build tank to do their job, there is a serious balance issue. that tanky Zed build came at a time where defensive offense items were just too strong. Sterak + Maw were constantly being purchased together. Tank Fiora was at its prime at this time. The game was pretty fucked up.

But the reason the ADC's are using them is because of how powerful the active's and passive's are ._. We literally can't survive a game against a lethality user without all the movespeed from the lethality items +
.
Why do i know? Because i tried playing Ashe and despite playing well by most standards a rengar with the same stats as me down me alone into the middle of my team and oneshot me. Later on a kha6 did the a similar thing when i was walking with two others.
Doesn't help that lethality is the cheapest damage build that is pretty much strong from start to finish. Against low armor targets you deal near or actual true damage and if dealing with a tank you can always get a
item and perhaps
and they won't be an issue either.
Don't go pointing fingers at the ADC's. We are simply trying to stay relevant and lethality and it's items is the only current way. If you have doubts trying playing Ashe and see if you can do anything for the first 30 minutes. I as a lvl 7 Ashe could barely manage.
Its hard not to point fingers at ADCs when Lethality will get nerfed because EVERYONE is abusing it, then the melees will stop being used while ADCs continue to use Lethality, which will likely cause it to get nerfed even further.
This is what happens with every 'non-intended' itemization that ADCs end up using. I can almost guarantee that's what will happen next.
Expecting Riot do actually do what they said they would? You must be really new here.
So like, you guys do know that lethality is broken on melee champions who can use it right now too, right? It being overbearing on the ADCs that synergize with it doesn't change the fact that Talon is fucking bonkers right now building the stat. Same with Shaco.

and so the tilt begins.
The issue is that the relevant ranged champions will use it better.
If you tune Lethality to be balanced on just the melee champions, ranged will still be too strong with it and get it nerfed to the point where assassins are going back to Ravenous Hydra->pure AD builds again.

Yet Talon is performing better than every ranged AD champion using it, with only Jhin putting that statement in question.
Quinn, MF, Jhin, Graves, etc all compare pretty well.
yeah but quinn's just busted. it's already hard enough to hit a quinn with 800 movespeed. add edge of night to that and now not only will you miss most abilities, she will not take damage/cc from first ability. Graves normally builds and acts like a melee champ anyways since his update.
Yet Talon is performing better than every ranged AD champion using it, with only Jhin putting that statement in question.
This is blatantly false.

Talon is not anywhere near as bonkers copared to Quinn/MF/Jhin/etc.

http://lolalytics.com/champion/Talon/
Yet lolalytics ranks him the single best champion in the entire game (though a few days ago Jhin was top and Talon was second), his play rate is rapidly rising, and his win rate alone is one of the highest in the game, on par with Quinn's.
Even top lane Talon is starting to see more play and is performing extremely well.
The champion is busted beyond belief.
Not to mentoin it's not only Assasins. But in this era it seems that Divers abusing Juggernaut and Assasin items is fine because they are melee (let's ignore gapclosers).
Don't know what all the fuzz about talon is right now tbh. Never had problems with him. Might be because i pick swain into him and make him cry.
Why does lethality have to be melee only? I understand that it's a problematic stat right now but why melee only? Certain ADCs should have the ability to be really strong early.
Maybe the problem isn't ranged using lethality but the fact there's no punishment for it and the unviablility of anything else. Maybe Last Whisper item's shouldn't apply before Lethality. Maybe Crit shouldn't be so shitty in design. Maybe crit-based ADCs shouldn't be shit.
Crit should be the auto attacker stat (Trynd, Yi, Vayne) and Lethality should be the caster stat (Varus, MF, Talon).
Make lethality worse on auto attacks
Good idea.
Though then we might be able to have a lethality item that grants an attack speed active.
Then we abolish critical strike for a better design in how ADCs should scale.
Then we rule the world.
what a suprise......Riotgames lied to us......what a shock....
they didnt lie, they just didnt give us an exact date : ^)
do you really riots cum that much ?.....
Yeah. Probably not gonna happen.
Expect Rito to do what they promised long time ago? You must have not went through dynamic queue.
they will nerf the marksman who abuse them first then nerf the items again then buff the items again cuz no one buys them and repeat
It is just because lethality should only affect spells and not basic attacks.
It is made for Ad casters whether they are melee or ranged.
But it's not made for dps with auto attacks. As long as it will affect auto attacks it will be broken.
Don't think Meddler has the absolute authority on deciding this matter. Either way lethality on melee is strong as well but at least bearable except the ones who can dive like sht (zed, reng, khaz).
When are you gunna uphold your end of the promise?
On the other hand, I'm imaginging what it would be like if assassins couldn't build tank items.
I would like them to make the ranged champions have a different lethality scaling. Assuming they keep the same 60% base for melees (which we know will probably get nerfed sometime) ranged could start at 40-50%. This way, actual assassins wont be shit, and adcs will be more balanced.
Obviously my numbers arent exact and what they should be, but this is something that I feel riot can do to balance out lethality a bit more for both classes.
its never gonna happen, unless all adcs are chaged to scale with critical chance absurdly theres no way.
For so many ADCs crit builds are borderline useless they barely autoattack in teamfights and all of their damage comes from abilities.

Or assassins had scalings on their spells tied to lethality. Then the items could be adjusted around that.
Well I don't think that's a good idea as only 3 (4 if you count the dirk that builds into all 3 of them) items have lethality to begin with.
That would turn every assassin's build into binary "build these 3 every game" nonsense
At least range won't be able to abuse it, though, if executed properly.
It is a million miles closer to fixed that way.
Why is Draven there again?
draven needs yumous to not get kited like an animal in every fight
No he doesnt and how is this relevant to what you said above anyway lol
Is there a source on this? I haven't been able to find anything.
( It's not melee only.
Short version - since I did mention the possibility before: Quinn has access to an assassin pattern - it is not her only pattern or necessarily her best pattern, but it's definitely there. This is a cool feature of her kit that we should support in the item system. Quinn buying Duskblade to enhance that pattern is a good thing, not a bad thing (if her kit's going to have the pattern at all).
The big concern there was that it'd be an optimal choice for most Marksman playing a normal Marksman pattern. We're confident that isn't the case, so we're allowing for fringe usage for kits on the edge of assassin and marksman (Twitch, Graves, Quinn come to mind as possible users)). - riot axes when they put duskblade on pbe
However I thought a rioter did say they would look into it if its a problem, that is not a promise to make them melee only but confirmation to tweak around it.(mind you I don't remember saying to do it for nights edge and ghostblade, or pre-caulfields maw)
the problem with lethality is it doesn't really have a meaningful trade off with Crit, Crit only outscales lethality at like 3 items(not counting boots)
They only said that the old
would get this treatment.
Problem still stands that it hasn't happened.
That's because the old Duskblade was stupid AF and needed to be reworked ASAP anyway.
I mean, when you consider that the current one does more effective damage on a lower CD, and doesn't have a delay....
Shouldn't Riot just make it so ranged champions get 75% of the lethality compared to melee champions? And then nerf the items slightly?
If anything I just think it should be fixed where if you have more lethality than a champion's armor it shouldn't do that extra true damage. Thematically it makes sense but I feel it turning into true damage in certain scenarios should be removed or nerfed via a damage cap or a percentage of that extra damage.
