Fair point.

1.) I can tell you're passionate about what you're saying, so I'm not going to badmouth you.

2.) I just want to give you a bit of perspective.

Since this is the meme and games board, any rioter that posts here shouldn't really be required to answer certain questions that isn't M&G related. Especially if their job description has nothing to do with the boards or M&G in general (and if it did have M&G in the details, then I'd be damned.

Anyways, keep in mind that you are speaking with humans, and most of them would possibly feel overwhelmed by what you just typed right after they posted in a thread for fun. That fun most likely being during their off time or break before having to dive right back into work. (After all, his job isn't 24/7 answer questions on the board.)

Right now, this kind of response would make me--as a rioter--hesitant to post within the boards, purely because they would get assaulted or blind-sighted from posts/questions/concerns that they probably can't directly answer themselves, or, even worse, answer the question incorrectly and cause mayhem (RIP Riot Opeli)

But all-in-all, I think your best shot with getting a rioter response with what you typed is making your own thread for it. I know that not every thread gets a red response, but reading your post seems like one they can and will (apologetically) respond to. Your post doesn't outright attack anyone. You're voicing a concern in a detailed way, and it can be built upon in a not-so-negative discussion. I know that, if your post was lore related, you would definitely pull the attention of Riot Jaredan since he is a jovial person who doesn't mind speaking with folks from time to time. Bioluminescence is also a good example of one (though he often give disclaimers that he lacks the ability or full knowledge of most concerns people have on the board).

Just try to post your concern as a thread in one of the forums you think it might be relevant. Just be careful of directly quoting rioters because not all of them can do an immediate, rapid-fire response to detailed questions. (I can only respond like this purely because it wasn't directed towards me from out of left field, or else I would be taking 2-3 days to figure out the best way to say "Oh..." in order to not offend you.)

After teh Great Lore Retcon (when our lore got changed up with short notice), Riot Opeli was the Red who went into the boards to try and calm everyone down by communicating with us to do some PR. Unfortunately, we had people so angry they gave her death threats as well as sexual harassment to the point that she had to be transferred to a different part of the company.

It's the reason you only find Lore related to her. It was..."brutal". To put it lightly.

Thanks... Wow... Wtf...

Yep. That's why I try to be somewhat respectful when talking with people. Even if I disagree. There's too many folks on the boards that are going through puberty and hormones they don't understand. Lol. Not saying they're all like that, but not every one of them (including the adults) think things out fully when voicing their opinions.

Also, the thing with Riot is that they will tell you their thoughts on something in the beginning. if people question them, they will give you their answer and reasoning for, say, the first week or few days. After that, they stay to themselves. They don't go queit because they are bad at communicating (which they can still improve on), but because answering the same question as well as variants of such won't help with anything. It will only please a small handful of people, and that is ONLY those who read that one response. Not only that, but if you refuse to understand their reasoning the first time, then you won't the second or third. Because of that, they just give up or keep quiet for a month or so until they come across a new development or finalized decision.

Best example would be Solo Q. They took it down. Gave their reasoning. People complained. Riot said "okay, we'll try to find out how to fix this thing for you." As they worked on it, people kept complaining. Since they answered what they could and don't want to give us empty promises (consistently) they just kept quiet until they can tell us more. They came to the conclusion they couldn't properly do with it and said "No solo q."

This angered everyone who prefers Solo Q. Yes, it was a bit of a disaster. Yes, they lost people and they angered even more, but in the end, they tried to look into it. If they gave us their reasoning on "Why no solo q" it'll bounce off of what they mentioned before, and people will refuseto listen, so, after they gave the news and gave their reasoning on it in a full on blog, they will not carry on the conversation of Solo Q.

Unless they find a way to bring it back, all the communication in the world will not pacify those who are angry unless they say "Sorry, we'll bring it back". But then, that'll cause more problems, and if they don't right then and there, the fucked up.

Get what I'm saying?

Yeah, I know what you're saying, people are super unreasonable here, they only hear what they wanna hear and if they don't hear what they wanna hear then it's a shit storm... People seem to forget Riot are people too...

I am responding to you for two reasons:

  1. You seem like a reasonable person.
  2. Your comment is perfectly exemplary of one that should make me laugh, but instead just makes me sigh.

Rioter's leaving humorous responses (like this) on threads is a good thing. It shows that you are real people with the regular gambit of emotions and expressions, so thank you for helping to reinforce that.

What is not good is when it is damn near impossible to find a serious Riot response on any thread that wasn't started by Riot in the first place. For example, if you look at the Boards right now and sort by "HOT" (the usual setting if you want to know about relevant conversations that are new) you will find 50 discussions. Of those 50 there are currently 2 with Riot responses. One of those is this thread with your jovial response, and the other is a thread with suggestions for the Shaco backstab mechanic. That thread has 2 serious responses from Meddler. At the time of my writing this, these 50 posts have a combined 2805 comments from players. That is a ratio of 935 to 1 of Community comments to Riot comments. A big part of Riot's most recent announcement was that they admit they have done a terrible job communicating with the community. I wholeheartedly believe that Riot needs to improve it's presence on the boards, preferable with at minimum one full time employee who's job is to respond to people on the boards all day, every day. It is very sad to see so many great ideas, solutions, thoughts, feelings, experiences, etc. being ignored day in and day out.

To be extra specially clear, I think it is not only good, but necessary, for Rioter's to sometimes have a jovial and joking tone when posting on the boards. It helps to reinforce that you are gamers with a love of LOL just like us. HOWEVER this must also be accompanied by a high volume of Riot-community participation on all subjects (balance, bugfix, suggestions, cosplay, etc.) When practically all the Riot responses you see are merely jokes, it gives the impression that nothing else is worth responding to, because nothing else is worth thinking about/considering. As a result when I see responses like yours, instead of laughing and smiling like I should, I am much more likely to sigh. There are so many topics brought up by the community that demand serious thought and consideration, yet as far as we know they are all simply ignored. Because of the lack of Riot responses in other areas, remarks like yours end up coming off as patronizing and condescending, instead of with the intended lighthearted humor.

Aaaaaand they stop replying now. Typical.

"We don't know yet" is an answer, but it's not really addressing the question of why they can't make dynamic queue an option while still maintaining solo queue. They were beating around the bush about some "big data" business, but what specifically about big data causes both queues to be incompatible together? I'd be satisfied if they give a specific and logical answer.

Because splitting up the queues would make queue times longer, especially for people wanting to play with friends, which is a greater cost than solos playing against 4-5 man premades .1% of the time.

Dextix LT4 votes

And that is bad why? The que that will be more popular would prove everything.

Unless Riot is afraid that soloq would kill dynamic because they couldnt get soloes to fill those dipsiht premade teams in.

Dengeden1 votes

Of course soloQ would be the default option, it would simply make ranked toxic again is the problem.

Dextix LT2 votes

For that you have the mute button, a tool to stop toxicity. And really, i have not seen a reduction in toxicity from dynamic, i have seen an icrease of it because of the stigma that premades have, especially if they are on the enemy team.

The reduction of toxicity most likely comes from the new champ select not dynamic.

Also, i will gladly have more ragers for the sake of ranked integrity and real rank with fair ladder for everyone that has skill. Especially since there are tools to deal with toxicity and there are none to deal with the advantage that premades have over solos.

Then I think a lot of complaints would have been solved if they had explained it this way. What will happen to people who either don't know anyone playing LoL, or their friends live in a different time zone (hence they aren't online at the same time)? Does that mean they can't play Ranked? Perhaps we should have a Lol community where people can match with other players of a similar skill level who are online at a certain time to play Ranked games.

Thanks for taking the time to write all this. I didn't mean for my comment to be anything other than a joke, so thank you for recognizing that and being honest about your reaction. For what it's worth, there are many Rioters that agree we need to up our communication game and are, as we speak, working to improve that. As Riot and the player base has grown, we haven't properly scaled up our ability to talk with players in the personal way we were able to do before, and that's definitely been an oversight on our part.

We're all in separate fields with knowledge tailored to the many different aspects of the game and its systems, so as far as our communication strategy, I'm not an expert. Due to the extremely variant levels of expertise, it'd be nearly impossible for one person to be able to respond to all the different conversations and ideas that are presented on the boards.

When it comes to feedback or bugs involving/relating to skins, wards or icons, I'll be working to maintain an open and constant presence. Thanks for holding us accountable to our values. (I feel like text loses a lot of emotion sometimes, so I hope this comes across as genuine. <3)

I understand your frustration. For some context, I work on the Skins team, so I wouldn't want to speak on behalf of a different team and misrepresent the Rioters working on it.

BetweenSkill13 votes

Yeah and the frustration comes from the fact that the only people who ever respond with any semblance of regularity is the skins teams, the gameplay analysts, the lore team (finally) etc, it unfortunately means you guys will end up getting falsely blasted a lot because the people who we are frustrated with are the ones who NEVER show up to talk about what we want them to talk about.

DarkRitual6 votes

I mean, would you show up to a place knowing you're going to be yelled at constantly by a couple hundred people?

BetweenSkill6 votes

I made a massively popular post about this a few months ago. There wouldn't be hundreds of angry people if they routinely showed up. The angry mobs are a symptom of their disregard for communication, and would disappear, and have disappeared, when they are found routinely being a part of the community again.

DarkRitual3 votes

Well, generally yes. Untill there is a significant announcment (like recently) that causes problems like we are seeing now. I've been a mod/PR person on some another games's staff team before, and even with a constant stream of small issues and complaints, all it takes is a single decision to generate significant discontent and make you want to just unplug your router for a week or two.

SociopathFriend2 votes

Yes, yes there would, Riot responses wouldn't satisfy the people because the response is going to be what it already is: "We're working on it".

And people jump questions at a Red because they're a Red- it has nothing to do with comment regularity. Youtube channels have the same thing- the channel itself makes one comment and everyone will instantly jump the comment with stuff that isn't even related.

Sona Ping2 votes

Riot responses wouldn't satisfy the people because the response is going to be what it already is: "We're working on it".

#And that's exactly the point!

That is a precise example of Riot's consistent failure to communicate with their player base. From replays to the Tribunal to the client, how many things have become issues, got brought up over and over as major questions for the game or problems that need to be addressed and get widespread attention...

And Riot is radio silent.

They say nothing and it goes on and on until it gets to a certain point and all we get is "We're working on it" or... "Soon." or... "We will take some time to think about it".

Or whatever non-informative response it is and then they go silent again and there is no addressing the topic, no honest discussion about it with the player base. Nothing.

And some of these are issues that are years old. YEARS!

I made this post to be a dirty memer, though; not for any gameplay discussion about the video.

Yeah, things suck, but at least try to have a laugh.

Even if League ends, it means a HUGE portion of potential MMO players are freed up, especially with WoW and TERAs current declines. That means someone might actually make a decent PVP MMO again because the competition isn't so incredibly stiff, which I'm all for.

Especially if its like TERAs. Its a shame all of the new classes have been trainwrecks for the game. Don't even get me started on the Awakening system... That game had the best PvP and general combat feel of any other game I've played.

I welcome the newcomers to the genres as a result of all of the powerhouse games taking bad directions, even if I wish they hadn't taken them.

Well...there is the legacy movement that Mike Morhaime is personally very interested in. He just met with Mark Kern not too long ago to discuss what we've been trying to support for years, and now it's a big enough outcry that it seems like something that might happen. He meets with the Nostalrius devs (one of the huge private servers Blizz shut down) in a few days. I'm waiting for Blizzcon for the announcement if there is one, but it would be piles money thrown away if this wasn't supported, and I'm sure Mike knows that.
