I don't think he just doesn't want to play tanks. He just doesn't like people insisting that -someone else- do it. If you think your team needs a tank, it might be a good idea to pick one yourself, rather than telling other people to do so. But as I said in another post, it depends who's saying it. Any role where a tank is a decent choice should just pick a tank themselves if they think the team is in need of one, but you can't blame the mid/ADC for pointing out a hole in your team comp.

what if the ADC says that tho

Urgot Mordekaiser.

They aren't good options, but they are options.

Really the only thing that annoys me is the assumption that everyone has a champion for that role. Sure there is at least one tank in every free rotation, but odds are that person doesn't have much experience with that tank and may end up pulling them down more.

No team can have the perfect or general composition of champion classes all the time. Except maybe in pro play where...well where you have people actually communicating and planning ahead of time as well as being skilled in more than one champion.

Depends what role they're playing. You can't say that to the ADC, nor the mid laner.

Galio Vladimir Maokai

Galio Vladimir Maokai

Vlad is a good choice for a bulky mid, but an AP bruiser is not close enough to a tank to be worth really bothering with in this situation. Same situation for AP Galio mid there. Maokai just won't work at all, at that point you're better off just accepting that your team is squishier than it really should be because trying to make up for that with your "mid laner that really should be a (mediocre) top laner" choice is causing more problems than it's solving. Listing a few semi-tanky champs that can kinda sorta be taken mid lane if you really need them to for some reason doesn't make it so that complaining about your mid laner not choosing a tank is sensible.

Isn't Galio categorized as a Tank/Mage?

Yes, but which one he is mainly depends on build path... He's not much of a tank if you're going to be building full AP on him, he's just a mage. If you build damage into tank, then that's an AP bruiser and not a tank still. When people ask for a tank they are asking to build tank and have cc.

But...he turns 50% of his MR into AP.

Not great for full AD teams. But terrifying to AP teams.

Yes, he is, but that doesn't mean that either:

a) AP bruiser Galio mid is going to be sufficiently tanky to make up for the lack of a tank in your team comp b) Tank Galio is going to have the qualities your team needs in a mid laner

My point is that you cannot simply list a tank that can potentially be built with damage and say "There, putting a tank in mid lane is viable". You need to consider why you actually need to do that (is having a tank that essential that you can give up having a carry in the mid lane?), whether or not the champion you're shoving into that lane can actually fulfill the role you need (Vlad is a bulky mid laner, but is he giving you the stuff you need from a tank?) and if they can fulfill the duties required of a mid laner while still being a tank (Galio can tank up a storm if you build him for it... but then he can't compete with the enemy mid in terms of waveclear, dragon control, roaming potential and so on).

There's a reason tanks aren't taken mid lane and it's not just because people are too scared/unimaginative to break the meta. It's not as simple as you think and there are a lot of things to consider in terms of whether or not forcing a tank on your mid lane is actually worth it.

"Guys, Fiora is OP right now. Someone pick her." Then locks in Gnar

If you can't even follow your own orders, why should the rest of your team? If you want a certain champ or type of champ in your game, pick it your damn self. If you're first pick and you're worried no one is going to tank, that's what the mysterious thing called a "chatbox" is for in champ select. I heard a rumor that anything you type into it can be seen by the other four players on your team.

It sounds crazy, I know. But we should check it out. Just in case.

the elo in which people say "we need a tank" is so low, we need not talk about it
