According to OP.GG, in their list of champions ranked overall, the highest ranked traditional mage is Ryze in 28th place.
I think this is a pretty good representation of how overtuned AD bruisers and assassins are right now. Why play someone like syndra or xerath when hecarim does more damage with one charge than your entire combo?

Shield and Heal1 votesyeah riot prefers assassins over mage's, Lissandra on top tier for few months they send her to the ground, Yasuo, Fizz, Zed, LB, Ahri, etc on the top tier for months and they don't care xD
that's why you see a lot of mage's move to support role as Xerath, Brand, etc..
