Guardian Angel was actually a luxury item back in the day and now it's pretty much necessary for any AD scaling damage champion? Are you a Xin Zhao? Must get this. An ADC? Must get this.
Really, the reason why GA is so necessary now is that the only real form of tankiness is untargetability - invulnerability and revivals, and maybe spell shields and big amounts of short shields (like Sterak's). Pure defensive stats do not really mean anything anymore, except maybe if you are Rammus or Malphite.
Sadly enough, we've reached a point that the only source of tankiness isn't determined by what values you get from Armour and MR, but by how much time you can buy being invulnerable etc, which is why you see a lot of champions with such abilities becoming strong. Lissandra, Akali, Vladimir are all strong picks, because of their ability to survive by becoming "immune to damage" for a certain period of time, regardless of their defensive stats. Think about this. Would you rather be a Maokai with 3 items trying to engage and tank the enemy team, or be a Lissandra and move in the enemy team, deal a lot of damage, self R and Zhonya's while keeping on spamming abilities?
Exactly, the form of "tankiness" that Liss gets is much better and more reliable while also being able to do so much more. Same can be said about a Jarvan with GA. Go in, do damage, trap people in your R and you can die for free, while you have done a lot of work and your team can capitalize.
It has gotten to a point where it's just outright stupid that the only viable methods of having tankiness doesn't revolve around resistances. Revert GA back to giving Armour and MR, so that at least AD champions can sacrifice some damage when they get it. Buff defensive items and increase them in price as well. It's really unfair when later in the game, a tank has an average item value of 2700, while the enemy AD has an average of 3200+. The discrepancy in stats is just too big. How about a tank item that costs 3600, to match IE and Deathcap? How about an item that can temporarily ignore enemies' penetrations, so that you can at least get some actual full value from your own stats? How about an active that makes you temporarily immune to true damage, so you don't get shredded regardless of your defences? What about an item that decreases damage taken in an AoE, like old Maokai's ultimate?
Really, there are so many ideas to create USEFUL defensive items, but nah. Since stats do not really mean much, you really need active utilite defense. Randuin's Omen is actually the closest item someone can get that has this option. Actual decrease to critical damage. GOOD. More like this, please.
