Someone asked me why I enjoy playing support.
To be honest, I don't. Not anymore. The ONLY reason I do anymore is because no one else will, and I'm really good at it.
But lately, my job has been getting a lot harder, and my job has already been a colossal undertaking. If I'm a tank, people demand I engage... only to run off in the other direction, leave me for dead and complain I'm intentionally feeding. If I'm a crowd control mage, no one will follow up on my stuns, or take the hint to fucking run if I peel them... only to complain how they get no peel. If I'm a utility mage, they squander all the buffs on minions or jungle camps. I get screamed at endlessly for not rushing a sightstone, even though I did, because no one knows what the sightstone or its other build paths are or even look like anymore. The ADC screams at me for helping others, thinking that I'm supposed to support them and only them, even when they go to AFK farm in the jungle when we could push something or claim an objective.
People think they can tell the support who to play and what to build, and the support has to listen to them by rule or else they can look forward to a four man report, which will come anyways because of that one minion you killed when your Relic Shield stacks were on cooldown, which you shouldn't even bother building anyways because the ADC will scream at you for stealing his farm, even though he benefits from it. I get yelled at for not playing Soraka, from the exact same guy that just banned Soraka literally seconds before.
It's a role where people treat you as expendable, where your word has no meaning and people are more than willing (one would say even desperate) to invalidate you as much as possible and then throw all the blame onto you, even if you had absolutely nothing to do with whatever the issue was.
And people wonder why no one wants to be a support anymore. They wonder why they have a 70 minute wait time in the lobby. Did you think the system of maltreatment you created was sustainable? Team Builder was a fucking warning. It failed miserably because you killed off all the supports. And even now, as the game is dying off because the system can't find a single support for hundreds or even thousands of games out there, you haven't changed your ways. In fact, you've gotten worse. Oh so much more horrendously worse, because you don't care. It's all about you and all those pentakills you would get if everyone else knew their place. You just pass that opportunity to be the responsible one down the line, and so does the other tens of millions of players with your exact same thought process, until one person decides to be the grown up and be the support, supporting those tens of millions of players.
This is what you have wrought, and nothing's going to stop it. The community is hemorrhaging what few supports they have left at an alarming rate. Soon enough, you won't have a League left.
