Why Ekko Is a Ginormous Failure of a Champion

With most champions I feel like I have a fighting chance when I go up against them, but with Ekko, everything seems reversed.

Ekko was created to be a Utility Assassin (even the name gives you shivers) and the biggest part of him was that he was an Assassin that had to plan things out. Instead of having a combo that dealt a bunch of damage, Ekko had delays and such on his abilities that made them able to be dodged. The biggest part that GypsyLord, the designer of Ekko, wanted to accomplish was that A.) Ekko felt like he was setting up his skills and feeling smart and B.) When an enemy died to Ekko, they felt like Ekko had outsmart them. This is where things go down hill. Ekko himself may feel smart when pulling off his delayed Ws or lining up his Qs, but the victims DOES NOT feel like Ekko outsmarted them, mainly because Ekko and his enemy are seeing two very different things. Ekko uses his Q and he lines it up, both him and his victim see that, but then comes his W and things begin to get messy. Ekko's W, for Ekko, shows a grey circle area that is where the stun bubble will be. For the victim, they see no such thing. In fact, sometimes it is hard to even tell if Ekko had used his W or not because it doesn't have some loud cast sound or anything of the sorts despite it's impact on the fight. All you get is a fuzzy little Ekko that shows up where Ekko cast his W from (sometimes somewhere you can't even possibly see) and then the 0.75 second swirl effect that the victim DOES see, but often times all too late as a ginormous 2.25 second stun hits them and any of their allies inside the stun bubble that has suddenly appeared. You don't feel like Ekko outsmarted you when this happens. You just feel like you were left with little warning for something all too huge to have so little warning. The stun bubble just kind of appears and you either dodge it or likely die since the 2.25 second stun duration gets you locked in Ekko's near infinite slow combo. Oh boy, the near infinite slow combo that Ekko can pull off once he gets enough CDR. Ekko uses his Q, slowing you, then procs his passive slowing you by a lot for a long duration, and then by then his Q is back up and he is slowing you again. Then by the end of that, you have a brief period of time before another W stun bubble appears to stun you and slow you. Good luck escaping Ekko anyway with the movement speed and his E on such a low cool down. Then we have the get out of jail free card he has called his ultimate. It's essentially a Guardians Angel that puts him back in a safe position as well while ALSO dealing a huge amount of damage. You essentially have to catch Ekko out twice every fight unless you have some kind of Malzahar point and click suppression on your team. Then if he as a Guardians Angel, Cleanse, or any form of huge defensive cool down on an active, you have those on top of his already huge innate ones. This isn't mentioning his shield, but that's just part of his kit as well.

Overall, to summarize, the whole idea that an Ekko feels smart when pulling off his combo and the victim feels outsmarted just doesn't shine true in-game, especially since you yourself have to outsmart Ekko one, two, maybe even three times before the bugger will just drop and die. It's not just the Tank Ekko build, it's Ekko's design, period.

Cc on an assassin was never going to work out.

I see you're getting bogged by down votes, but I definitely agree. Your point that Ekko's mission statement and Ekko's in game reality don't line up is true. Especially due to the difference in what Ekko sees with his abilities and what his opponent sees. They did a pretty good job shutting down tank Ekko which was nice but there are still some core problems with how the idea behind him translates in to the game.

Just remove the slow/speed up from his passive, or increase his e cooldown by a lot. Too much mobility and damage and CC is never going to work...

You're failing to mention the delay on his bubble so that he has to plan where you'll be/ pressure you towards it, and that he has to actually get inside the bubble while you're in it to stun you.

Plus it's not like he has ridiculously high burst damage that an assassin or a burst mage would have, his most damaging ability is his ult, that he has to have you in the radius of when he travels backwards and even that has a small delay.

Now on the other hand, he does have the opportunity to build really tanky and use his ult to regen a third of his hp after he would have died, so he makes a crazy good tank for his team with his passive's slow.

Having the choice of building for tankiness or damage on a champion and having it work isn't really the worst thing ever, but it does make it tough on an opposing champion who can only build one way, since he can build against it.

All-in-all, I don't think he's really an overbearing champion the way that you make it sound, and I think that good ekko players do have to think 3 steps ahead, and I think you just had a really bad game against him and felt like ranting. Also, I think they should change his classification from assassin to mage, fighter since that displays how he works as a champion better.

Except he does have burst damage. You are correct, I did have 3 matches with an Ekko on the enemy team. However, even after calming down a bit, despite the little emotional writing in the OP, I think my point is still true. As I said, Ekko may feel smart when he uses his abilities and he does have to plan ahead, but at the same time it doesn't feel like you are getting outsmarted when an Ekko bursts you down. It just feels like you either guessed wrong about where his W would be or he used his R to remove any punishment he would get for playing wrong. I know it's a core mechanic for his identity, but I feel like either the damage on his ultimate needs to be changed or the returned health on his ultimate needs to be changed.
