Dr. Mundo Is Not the Best At His Own Niche: Regeneration

I mean, sure, his ultimate does heal him for a decent bit, but when you look at the exact numbers, there are many champions who on average heal themselves for a ton more than Dr. Mundo and also provide other benefits.

http://www.champion.gg/statistics/#?sortBy=general.totalHeal&order=descend

Based on these statistics, an average Dr. Mundo heals for a grand total of 10,034 health over the course of a game. Other champions that provide only self-healing that heal for more grand total health include (and excluding Junglers due to Smite bonus healing): Swain- 10635 Total Health Mordekaiser- 10709 Total Health (can also heal allies, but not notably, slight cheating) Trundle- 10763 Total Health Maokai- 11497 Total Health Sion- 12578 Total Health (cheating a little since its from passive mainly) Vladimir- 19876 Total Health Honorable mention to Zac in the Jungle who heals for a grand total of 27481 Total Health on average!

So, why is this bad/important? Well, why do you pick Dr. Mundo? To heal yourself! You pick him to go where you please since you know and hope any damage you take will be healed back and any CC that hits you will be reduced through Burning Agony. So, if there are all these other champions who are healing for notably more health on average each game, especially Vladimir, why would you even pick Dr. Mundo. This isn't a matter of balance, it's a matter of identity. Dr. Mundo is outclassed in his own niche! This isn't to say he needs straight buffs or that ANY of these other champions need nerfs, but it should clear that the real reason anyone would be drawn to Dr. Mundo is underperforming currently. Some might argue you pick him just for his insane Q poke potential, but that's not a FUN reason and is done by many others! Dr. Mundo's healing is just in a sad state right now. He needs help that might be something beyond just normal balance changes.

That shows over the game, but Mundo gets it when he wants.

Don't all of these champions with few exceptions? Vladimir, Trundle, and Swain all notably get their healing when they want.

Trundle has to have stuff die near him. Not on demand click of a button regain half your health in 10 seconds.

You mean his R?

Yes, Mundo R. Trundles R doesn't heal as much.

No, all those champions need to do stuff to get their healing. They need to fight something, stand near something dying etc. Mundo's both sources of regeneration are absolutely without condition. He can literally run the other way, and still heal up to full. Vlad, Trundle or Swain can't - at very least, they need minions to heal up on, and each of them somehow gets less healing from minions.

As it is always the case in League of Legends, effects with conditions are more powerful than those conditionless.

all of these characters require a target to hit for their healing except sion

Mundo just gets to heal whenever he feels like slapping R, which is probably why he's so troublesome to balance

Well, majority of the time, Dr. Mundo would be slapping R when any of these other champions would anyways. Aside from a few cases in the laning phase, Dr. Mundo will be hitting R in the middle of a fight against champions, like any of these other champions healing.

I feel like the most notable case is the fact that Trundle performs better. They both have similar healing mechanics, but Trundle just flat out heals for more.

Not saying Dr. Mundo needs buffs, I'm just saying it's sad that statistically Dr. Mundo isn't at the top when it comes to healing since that's kind of why you pick him.

Trundle heals for more because he gets health back from anything that dies near him, not just his ult's regen

it's a bigger number because it's totally passive, and i don't think mundo's passive actually counts toward his healing

The healing done stat does not show any form of life steal or regeneration. The 10k healing by Mundo in that stat is entirely from landing his Q. He then has his ult and passive healing which is unaccounted for in stats. If you consider the fact that he heals for 10k only by getting health back from his Q cost, imagine what it would be if it showed his regeneration.

Are you sure? Why would it act like that with his ultimate?

If his ult was considered a heal it wouldn't show up in his stats as hp/5. It just gives you massive health regeneration but doesn't actually "heal" you similar to how Warmog's armor works. I've wanted them to fix the healing done stat for a long time to show bonus regeneration from things like Mundo's ult and Soraka's Q as well as lifesteal. Maybe they will finally get around to it now that they have started adding a lot of stats like damage mitigated and vision score.

Yeah doesn't sound accurate to me either, but makes sense because his ult just gives him health regen.

I think mundo's playstyle is fine as it is. Giving him more regen would mean he has to lose somewhere, and I don't like that.

I play mundo to give my enemies cancer, land cleavers on people, and punch them as hard as a carry despite being a tank ahem, a "juggernaut."

He have one CC on his kit. The rest is 3 damaging spells and two defensive spells. He is a Juggernaut. There is no need to show disdain for newer terminology because you don't agree with it.

lol

I build full tank on him to deal damage, yet another juggernaut builds 2-3 damage items. How are they in the same class? Smh

Mundo is a trash champion that needs a rework

He should be due for a full rework

Mundo's abilities all cost health. Most champs who heal only gain health

Annoxis1 votes

I believe there is a confusion here : strengths aren't niches, they define what the niche is. Mundo's niche is « Juggernaut extremely good in very long fight » (compared to others Juggernaut, at least).

Mundo's ult is rengeneration. Regeneration does not count as healing. That 10k is basically all from his Q.
