So what's the deal with Karthus?

He seems pretty unplayable... he takes way too long to scale up, all his spells feel useless aside from his ult, which has one of (if not the) longest cooldown of any spell. He doesn't fulfill his role of doing massive damage unless you get to full build. He doesn't deliver on his fantasy of being a sinister, yet charming Grim Reaper. He doesn't feel powerful. It just feels like a joke when I play him and everyone else is dashing circles around me and I can't do a thing.

Riot hasn't said anything about him since they butchered his Wall of Pain. Why is he in the gutter? Why wasn't he included in the mage update? Would he really be that awful to play against if he was viable? Is his design flawed? Is that why they're keeping him down?

52.5% win rate suggests you're just a blithering idiot.

no deal with Karthus. He knows how to use the Guitar

Karth got huge amount of love with the mymu. He now can build up CD and Sustain without giving up on damage..... He is just countered by the FOTM that's all

He's actually pretty strong.

I play him top sometimes in situations he can get away with it. IMO more "active" champions belong in the mid lane. He does pretty well against the less sticky of the fighters. It's actually pretty cancerous. His range is deceptively obnoxious for the top lane.

Tear/Rylias or Morellos/Rylias and go to town. With Rylias being the most superior core item on him Riot was wrong on their previous comment of Karthus being powerful because of catalyst.

It's hard to believe but I've repeatedly beaten pantheons and Fioras with Karthus in lane using his range and zoning/beating them down with the skittles. The range on Q allows him to farm safe if they're not trying anything. At first I thought he'd do best farming against "docile" tanks but it turns out I have found them to be incredibly durable and tough to scare. It's the "not sticky from long range" fighters that want AD he shreds. Someone too sticky like Irelia or Wukong would be trouble however.

my guess is he's in line for a rework at some point in the future, his entire kit seems extremely outdated aside from maybe his passive and his wall of pain.

Consistently high winrate. Consistently the highest "damage dealt" of any champion in any lane. Q provides constant magic damage throughout a fight. W has a huge AoE that's great for zone control or to just drop on top of someone for a huge damage boost. E is massive AoE damage. R secures kills and also provides a ton of damage in a team fight. Passive combined with everything else basically means a hard engage comp still gets completely wrecked by your damage and anything less than hard engage will just get poked down over time with your Q's.
