20/20 Hindsight on Game Balance

A lot of the reason certain champions have become really good or dare I say, "overpowered," is because of how Riot has changed the game with the addition of turret plating. WIth a stronger emphasis on doing well in the early game, we see, especially in top lane, more champions being picked that have a good early game lane advantage. That is, turret plating combined with the nerf on teleport cooldown. That's also why we see people taking biscuits from inspiration in most roles as well as corrupting potion in solo lanes.

Riot is now nerfing some of these champions with very strong early games as well as nerfing corrupting potion. But I think the question that really needs to be asked here is, does Riot intend on keeping turret plating and the teleport cooldown nerf for seasons to come? Will they undo all of the damage they've done to the assortment of champions made strong in this meta once they take the meta away?

Just food for thought. Would hate to see 20 champions become garbage and need reworks because we decided to try a new meta for only a year.

This is what happens when Riot throws into the trash can 7 seasons of hard work just to add new masteries.

yeah turret plating was a cool idea, but it gave way to much reward for people who dominated a lane. They get cs and turret plating, making it relatively hard for the other dude to keep up.

Exactly. Having lane pressure is already enough of an advantage because it allows you to make plays elsewhere.

Unlikely, the faster pace forces pro players to play more risk heavy, which usually results in more fighting and a flashier viewing experience.

It's the same reason you see teams like G2 and IG succeed so easily - they are not just ready to make the risks, they thrive in that kind of environment.

You then have teams like SKT who are masters of damage control struggling so heavily because of these colossal early game leads that can potentially spring up out of next to nothing - tiny, minuscule differences quickly cascade into insurmountable advantages.

All this serves the viewership of pro play, which in turn equals more cash.

They will keep these changes because for many years, when Riot fucks up something, they won't admit it and will try to hide it by saying "mistake?us?! nonono, impossible. Oh btw heres the 13th skin for ezreal, hope you enjoy!!" They have develpoed this strategy since they buffed tank items and instead of admiting it and just reverting them, they did the excact same thing "it wasn't a mistake, we will just buff all damage overall so that you can win them" and that got us where we are now, a game where the new 2 champions which are under development are a solo lane assassin and a adc and we haven't seen a tank since Ornn who was one of the most useful champions riot has ever made.

it's going to stay 100%: makes esport finally exciting to watch you can still punish trash players/scaling champs but since they also buffed turret damage they can still survive a dive or trade 1v1, thus not completely ending their game herald is really good to take before 14 mins and this makes top lane relevant
