The reasons of why high damage metas are a bad thing for the community.

There is something that has changed over the seasons and it's this :

Increase of damage since 2014. With new offensive items and high buffs. The season 8 with its new rune system is one of the issues.

What is really the problem with the game having high damage ?

  • You can't act properly to counter or outplay when there is too much damage.
  • You have more chances that someone in your team feeds quickly an opponent.
  • You have less chances to come back under safe zone (turret) after a failed fight or have been punished

What are the big issues of this ?

  • As people get fed easily there are more chances of snowball
  • As most of people can't act because they get nearly one shot they become '' Mad''
  • The toxicity and rage in the game increases because of the frustation of the ennemy being highly fed and that you can't do nothing about it even if you didn't fed him.

A high damage based game is a bad thing for the game and for the psychological health of the players.

Most of the players would get mad or hyper frsutrated if they can't survive a single fight 1v1 if they get one shot.

However if they die after a long or short fight without having be one shot most of them will accept it by saying themselves : he is better or i should have played safer. And they won't get frustrated.

However getting killed without having the time to react or to counter gets people frustratred, mad, tilted and even toxic. It gets even more frustration if you didn't fed the monster and that you get OS by him.

that's the reason why a high damage meta should not be an OK meta.

those metas increase frustration toxicity and divide even more the community.

Honestly, yeah.

I used to want to play all the time. Even when I had a huge loss streak, I could always find it in me to play 1 more game.

But these days, theres only so much I can enjoy a game that has come down to who can blow up who in less than .1 secs

Agreed. This is why you see tanks going full AP. There is no point in building defenses. I just love when I go Ninja tabi's into GA and still get blown up by an AD assassin.

RIOT just didn’t understand that the rune system was a strategic turn of events in the lane. The current rune system gives to stats and only one of them depending on your champion. They completely forgot the rune system gave STATS not extra damage. It’s shouldn’t even be considered the rune system it’s more of masteries since runes gave stats not extra effects..

Riots likes people with better connection speed and higher dexterity.

Like we are all Faker with 3 ping.

The updates are just making things worse and worse, there is no attempt at balance.

Need a major overhaul.

It also makes the pro scene very 'turtled' and 1-sided as most games are almost ended as soon as they begin, with the only interesting thing being gimmick-Baron-rush but otherwise the whole game is about out-swarming the enemy team. And it's not like Baron buffs aren't a problem of their own, too, given it's so insanely overpowered once you have it, it might as well be the new nexus and whoever gets the Baron first win the game (to put it into perspective, the current buff is about as strong, if not stronger, than the old Baron buff multiplied by TWO or even THREE and above). And it's boring.

So even on the front of pro scene, it is bad, too. So when something like this that has not a single redeeming factor, why is Riot keep deepening their knees into it?

I watched the second day of EU LCS this past weekend and every game except one was a complete stomp. It was so boring and I am a fan of watching professional league. I don’t want to watch Uzi playing Ryze...boring.

Pictures speak better than words (don't mind the chat, it's not toxicity, I was just alive for a while and had a lot of golds so that guy asked me to die)

It's July. JULY. It was clear things were wrong in November.

They are still buffing damage, and nerfing defences (Relic, Shields, Redemption...). They've already chosen their destiny, and the destiny of their own game.

Chill it's preseason.

We all knew it was comment it’s like a cycle when, it was tank meta then we got adc meta, then after that passed it was assasin meta, and so the tour in midlane now results next to mages where everything will be more chill since mages were nerfed previously if mages are nerfed once more then it will be jungler meta and if they are nerfed then it will be tank meta it’s a cycle.

To be honest. Compared to the cinderhulk meta and the ardent censer meta currently it's quite decent. When cinderhulk was meta boards were full of rant posts and how tanks are too usefull and anything offensive was worthless. And ardent censer was even worse. It was so awfull that it became a meme that will probably remembered even in 5 or 10 years.

Of course the current damage meta is far from perfect or balanced. But it still somewhat ok imo.

There was nothing good about the other examples you listed, but IMO this is the worst League has ever been. Cinderhulk meta was boring, ardent meta went on way too long and bot lane ruled the world, which was frustrating, but this burst-ultra-wtf damage meta is just miserable to play in. I've never enjoyed League less.

You forgot the "one mistake and everything is over" thing, where it would legit increase the chances of ragequitting. Having high damage metas amplifies that.

You might like or hate all those ADC/ardent or Tank metas but you have to admit. They were playable and there was room for skill expression. Atm people literally oneshotting each other. One that manages to touch opponent first wins. There isnt even room for counterplay. You die before you can react.
