would you play a vintage league ? one of the first versions of the game.

MOuHahaHAhahaaaa··93 votes·17,828 views

I'm not saying it would be good or it would be bad.

I mean if there was the additional possibility in game mode selection :

Vintage league :

  • old maps.
  • old champions and their old abilities and ratios until jinx (after jinx's release there was yasuo).
  • old items.
  • old runes.
  • old masteries.

Would you play it ?

By curiosity or by nostalgia or even for fun.

Would you play it ? if yes upvote.

tbh id go back to season 4 - 5, they were the most diverse, fun and non frustrating seasons, were they perfect? no, but atleast they dident have the ardent support meta, the 5 assassin meta, the inting sion meta, the time where quinn had the number 1 winrate in 3 different roles all at the same time, vayne and riven being disgustingly op but not being nerfed, when riot dident dictate the game around what their favorites were, riot we understand certain champs are more popular, and certain types of gameplay make LCS less interesting, but please for the love of god, dont ruin the game for the average player just so you can sell a few extra skins and the top 30 players in the world get to have more interesting games, please be the company that put the average player first instead of "hey lets make another ahri skin"

I've been saying it for years now: Give me a Season 3/4 private server and I'd never come back to this game.

Spicy Rice2 votes

lol, those are some great rose colored glasses you got there.

Season 4 and 5 basically had 4 metas.

  1. Siege meta, where wave clear was all that mattered.

  2. Double tp meta, where everyone would clusterfuck botlane.

  3. Tank meta, where all non-tank melees were borderline useless, and any adc not called vayne or kog'maw was also pretty useless.

  4. ADC meta with all the marksman updates, where adcs dominated every game.

But hey, sure, keep thinking that season 4 and 5 were the best seasons ever.

3TWarrior5 votes

the double TP meta WAS the tank meta because as we all know, tanks are immobile and do not farm as well as other classes

the marksmen updates occurred in preseason 6 and season 6, effectively just 6 because they pushed the mastery update at the same time as the marksmen class update. This is conveniently after all of their previous balancing decisions started to get ignored (and also conveniently when Tencent bought out Riot's shares in the company for 100% total ownership)

i'm not sure what you mean by siege meta...waveclear has ALWAYS been important but it rarely eclipsed other strategies and it was usually MARKSMEN and ADCarries that did it the best

Do you remember when you did not have to worry about picking an immobile character or a non-meta character?

that's how good things were in early-mid 5 and previous seasons. Most niche cases of balance issues didn't last for 6 months at a time like the current seasons do, then late 5 and later seasons came around and suddenly Lee sin could dominate the jungle for the entire year, previously toxic strategies got put BACK INTO THE GAME, most strategic elements have been removed or heavily modified in favor of DEATHBALL TEAMFIGHTS, lategame is now achieved at 2 to 3 items...really, things put into the game TO PREVENT SNOWBALLLING actually INCREASED SNOWBALLING

Off-meta debates(which spark way too much discussion and also show how at risk everyone is)

unhealthy wide-spread changes (runes reforged, multiple jungle updates per season, true damage on everything, replacing problematic elements by just switching them onto another item...etc)

things went downhill and snowballed out of control...ironic

  1. The double tp meta was not the tank meta. It came before, and was due to how good tp was with buffs and what not. People would take fighters top and mages mid, and tp (or counter tp) bot 24/7

  2. Fair enough with the marksman update, it was much later than I remembered.

  3. There was such a thing as a siege meta. Maybe most don't remember it, but there was a time where waveclear was perhaps the most important factor of a team comp, surpassing their team fight or skirmish capabilities.

  4. I don't think there was ever really a time past season 2 or 3 where immobile champs were super safe. More than that though, saying that there was a time where picking off meta wasn't risky is kind of paradoxical, as off meta champs are inherently risky compared to meta champs. Most Efficient Tactic Available

  5. Sure, niche cases of balance weren't exactly at the forefront. But that was kind of because of 2 classes of champs (by season 5 standards) Fighters and Assassins were essentially throw picks, mages were only good for waveclear, and adc who weren't able to shred tanks disappeared from play.

  6. You feel that the current systems make games way too long, and that it's bad for the game. But previously, even in the glorious times of Season 5, people felt like games took way too long. I remember when games routinely went into 40-50 mins, because it was impossible to build up a large enough lead to close out a game. I've seen a 6 min team fight, where both teams fought, and people kept dying and spawning and continuing the fight. Hell, I played a match where I got 3 pentakills back to back, and we were still unable to close out the game. And don't think this is hyperbole, I mean it literally. The only reason I remember after all this time is because of how horrible those games felt to play, and how burned out I was afterward.

  7. I really wonder how people can honestly say "x change is unhealthy for the game". The implication is that when the game is "healthy" everyone is happy, but considering there has always been complaints, the term "unhealthy" kind of loses its meaning. A more accurate way of saying it, is that You, and some others, do not like the current changes or state of the game. That doesn't mean they are necessarily bad, just that they are different enough, and that they irk you enough, that you are willing to post about it.

You have the right to your opinion, and I myself do not like the current state of the game, but to call it unhealthy or imply that previous seasons were much better is a bit hyperbolic.

without a doubt runes reforged was a step in the wrong direction

Buuriin7 votes

Pretty much this, game feel so unfun and toxic to play since runes reforged, after that all the new/reworked champions and matchmaking just make it worse.

Saevum18 votes

The selling point was old runes and masteries.

Yordle Xayah12 votes

My best memories of the game are from around Season 3 up until the horrendous Juggernaut patch that ruined Worlds 2015.

Yes, I would totally play it, and I personally think it would be wonderful for us to realize what things have truly improved since, but also for the developers to see what actually worked better back in the day that is now just lost.

Both ways, both sides would get a lot from a retro version of League of Legends.

Titanium703 votes

Yeah the patches before seasons 5s Juggernaut update where definitely the best ones to play on in all of Leagues history!

ZapMyHeart9 votes

Yes.

Because I would get to play old Karma before she was ruined by a rushed rework.

Season 2-5 were the glory days of this game

Bloodrage Shadow7 votes

Bring me back to anytime between season 5 worlds and season 6 preseason where I felt like I could play anything and not be handicapping myself or my team.

TwitchInMyPants7 votes

Well it depends on what patch we're talking here

But something S3-5 would be rad

vgamedude6 votes

Id try it. I got into league a long time ago playing just crystal scar, I'd like to try those days again being a bit older and paying more attention.

kayochan6 votes

Season 4 or 5. I'd play that in a hearbeat!

WyvernEgg5 votes

Yeah I would. Too bad I can't.

Ameliea4 votes

Id play it, but only for nostalgias sake. I think it would get old again really quick, since with the knowledge and skill of today you could so easily break the balance of the league of past and make it a complete mess

GigglesO4 votes

If it has tanks...

I'd love to see a season 1 port, all the old champs, abilities, items, old map graphics, old minion logic. I think it would be great to be able to compare league's roots to the current league and see if mechanics have changed or if players have just gotten better over time.

However, there's a few problems preventing this from happening. First off, Riot didn't exactly keep an old version of the game in a vault, untouched. Secondly, as changes happen incrementally to the game, there's not a master undo button to easily get us back to that point - sure, you can change the numbers on abilities and reintroduce old items (which only works on champs that haven't been completely changed), but the graphics and game logic isn't going to be easy to revert.

So sadly, though this would be a really cool thing to see, it probably won't ever happen.

LegacyDAP4 votes

I'd play almost any previous iteration over what we currently have.

Crash Bandicoot4 votes

Literally anything would be better than this absolute filth pile that they call a game for these past 3 seasons.

Isnt that what league of memories is? Or did riot kill that?

i bet ppl will play it a little until some abuse a meta and it get forgotten semi completely

YESSS YESSS YEESSS 10000 TIMES I WOULD GO BACK... NOW THIS GAME IS KILLING ME..

Lovelle3 votes

Absolutely, especially if it included Dominion and the old 3v3 map.

Frontline Fury3 votes

One of the first versions of the game? Hell no. League of Legends was terrible before season 2. It didn't truly become "good" until season 3.

space caose3 votes

I would give a lot to play full Ap or 100% life steal Sion again. With 3% crit and 125 attack damage at level 1 hitting people for half their hp.

SerbianPudding3 votes

I’d pay good money for vintage league. I still yearn for old Fiora amd Swain.

I have been hoping for this since season 7

can we go up to xerath please? then the game is good

I would like it if they made an oldschool mode. Maybe to celebrate 10years. Every 2days they update the season. Day 1: beta launch Day 2: mid beta Day 3: season 1 start Day 4: season 1 mid patch Etc

Titanium701 votes

Uff... 20GB update incoming... xD

Myren Quiddle2 votes

I'd play it for the old Swain, still miss him :'(

MysticShaker2 votes

Ofc, everythibg is better than this shitty game ruined by more shittier dev. I have zero respect for them. I hate them. Even a poop my dog made is better than them.

Acekill3r2 votes

Second half of S5 where everything was viable. I would donate some organs to play that.

SuperGeon2 votes

Closed beta player here. Current league is infinitely better than old league. Did you know we almost had summoner avatars that you would clothe instead of/in addition to a rune system?

Titanium701 votes

As a gamemode? Definitely! As a server? Not really.

I'd love to go back to Season 2 for a while, that would be amazing and quite interesting.

Sadly it's very unlikely for that to ever happen - as much as I know, Riot doesnt have old working builds of the game for what ever reason, so they had to build pretty much everything from scratch.

Stoshkin1 votes

god no

Acekill3r1 votes

I would pay a Monthly subscription to play 2nd half of S5 , i think Riot should give it a try i bet it would overshadow LCS in terms of money.

Mokuto Bunshi1 votes

Possibly an unpopular opinion, no, not really.

I played back at season 5, quit before I played ranked. Started at 6 and played till now.

TBH most of the stuff I liked happened after that point.

SURE they changed the runes, increased burst and added random dragons, that was awful. but I also got my main (Kled), the champion I ENJOY and a game mode that I legit HAD FUN WITH (nexsus blitz) to play with friends without the harsh set in stone way of playing. In game voice chat was also a plus.

I under stand I can just use discord and that they can just add new champions. (but maybe not nexsus blitz) but no; as a player whos been here a little while, I cant justify going backwards. Even though there are some things that I don't like and in some cases REALLY don't like, I just hope they get solved/changed going forwards

MAY I LEAD1 votes

Just want to say. I love Yasuo, so I would live to play release Yasuo. But even if they did stop at Jinx, yes. I absolutely would. This game has just progressively gotten worse for years. So yes. I absolutely would play vintage league.

Zertryx1 votes

I'd live in seasons 3-4 forever if i could, games were way more fun back then

LatetotheRace1 votes

Give me old non-shit galio.

USAstar1 votes

Blade waltz Fiora has 102 attack damage and buys elixir at level 1 in order to draw first blood, then she got a 20 stacks sword of the occult after a penta kill! I love it! I wish the game never changes!
