This time congratulations Riot. The Nunu rework is at ww level

Riot i don't know who did this rework but you should make this guy or this team do all you reworks.

You kept the snowball changing it mechanicaly :P You kept the eating concept YOU KEPT THE ULT and i was OMG You added a giant snowball like the aurelion sol q concept

You kept them You kept the spells concepts and just modernized them nechanically.

Thematically you staid with the comcept of friendship between a monster and a lil guy. That's great. The only counterpart will be robot nunu which was a little bit creepy but was fun to taunt with lol. The new bot nunu seems more cute than creepy haha.

The only complain is about how it looks. Yeah i agree for the yeti however the spells are there. They should just give him a classic creepy nunu skin and it would be fine.

Otherwise the big issue is that some skin themes have been reworked and the players lost some skins they paid for :I. I think you should have not changed them.

Considering what riot has done to swain and beatrice nunu is a masterpiece.

This is the kind of reworks i wished every character had in the game. Specially for galio, sion, aatrox and swain.

This is the best rework of a character you've done in the game.

In my opinnion a good rework is :

  1. Modernise the spells and the look of a champion
  2. Keep its way of playing and its identity (similar/not almost the same gameplay and visuals)

Sometimes not everything has to be changed. Because some spells are too iconic for the characters identity.

Nunu's ult was a unique signature move. It was a core identity. Great they didn't removed it like they did for swain's beatrice (his old r).

Big GG at the nunu's rework team keep your next reworks like this !

I was with you until you mentioned Galio, Sion, and Aatrox. They had larger problems in that their kits couldn't be preserved as they were (ESPECIALLY SION), and their VGUs greatly improved them.

MOuHahaHAhahaaaa18 votes

Comon they could have kept the galio and sion ult. If sion was mean to be at tanknwith its old ult i would be the undying tank each time he could hit an opponent. For the rest of the kit i was ok but the ults were their identity.

Oleandervine70 votes

Old Sion's ult was absolutely nothing but a giant pile of stats, it had no strategy, no skill, and didn't have much interactivity or flexibility. It was a horrible ultimate, and he could be kited to infinity and beyond with that ultimate and just invalidated by over half the roster. Plus, most of the functionality of his ultimate became his passive, and his new ultimate is infinitely better than anything his old kit had to offer.

Galio, likewise, had flaws in his old kit that didn't mesh with how he was supposed to function. His old ult was fun and all, but his new one allows him to get into combat better and save more people than his old ult ever could. Plus, he still has an AOE taunt in his kit.

Galiö9 votes

Old sion kited? He had a point and click 2 second stun and his ult lasted 20 seconds lol.

Idk if I agree with your critique.

Also old Galio ult was A-

The new one is a hard B at best.

Fondling Gems6 votes

I mean in the sense of the argument it would be preserving the old ult in the current sense of his kit, in which case yeah he would probably be kited since he doesn't have that stun anymore.

Also frankly point and click CC is no guarantee that you wont get kited. As an old Taric player that shit could get kited into oblivion, and Taric had a much lower effective CD on his stun. Also worth noting that Sion's stun was only 1.5 seconds. His stun wasn't 2 seconds unless you go really far back, well before his rework.

YumaS2Astral2 votes

In addition to that, summoner 1 item 3140 item 3102 are a thing

Galio's old ult is now his basic ability. So Riot made room for a new ult and passive. Old Galio was basically garbage because his ult was only being able to be utilized with Flash available and he had no business being a tank - taunting people once every 5 minutes at best.

I can't judge solely based on your name if you were old Galio enthusiast or not but contrary to popular belief, you accepting the bad sides of his previous kit and playing around them doesn't make old Galio good by any means. I don't want forced VGUs/GUs to keep aspects of champion kits that don't work, only for the sake of not angering a few people in the community who liked to play them for the sake of nostalgia.

Riot's not going to then have to revisit the champ in the near future when the bad proof of concept doesn't work out. Ryze went through that process and he ended up getting 3 reworks.

Galiö4 votes

Well his new W (compared to old ult) does 400ish less damage, is effected by tenacity, is 1/3rd the duration without tenacity is almost half the radius and half the damage reduction.

But close and atleast similar.

Also old Galio wasnt that bad, just had shorter windows of power.. in fact Galio had all star (highest winrate in a season on average) for 4 years in a row.

Also Galio (currently) had .06% higher play rate right now than he did before rework but 8% lower winrate.

Old galio had some issues (mana costs and long ult CD) but that's because he was nerfed season 2, had core item removed season 4, nerfed season 5 and never buffed or adjusted.

Z3Sleeper2 votes

There's a difference between gameplay issues and viability issues.

Old Galio had gameplay issues, regardless of his winrate, playrate, nerfs, buffs, changes, viability, etc.

He had a fundamentally broken kit that was only functional when his numbers were overtuned and nonfunctional when those numbers were not bonkers. Which makes complete sense given he was a magic resist stacking mage tank with fairly low counterplay ranged abilities for everyone who wasn't leblanc or some other dash-happy fool.

His ult when strong was essentially "every 5 minutes I'm gonna 0 counterplay win this teamfight by flash ulting".

And when his ult wasn't strong it was "every 5 minutes I'm gonna suicide cuz my numbers are too trash for my broken kit to function properly".

Arakadia10 votes

Galio, Sion and Aatrox did all have large problems in their kits that couldn't be preserved (flash taunt ult wasn't a healthy interaction).

However Riot went to the extreme scale and removed way more than necessary. Galio was a melee brawler with a dash. Sion had so little to keep that his rework was fine. Aatrox had his entire class change. Yes, Nunu had more mechanics they could keep, but Riot does like to change parts of champion's kit that are fine and literally disregard original fan's favorite features.

SithesisLord1 votes

Yeah, most of the fan favorites were either part of or the entire reason why Riot reworked them in the first place.

Arakadia2 votes

Was Swain's ravens a negative fan favorite (FF)? Was his cane a negative FF? Was his demon bird transformation a negative FF?

Are squishy auto attackers a negative FF? Clearly not because many still exist in the game. Unfortunately for poor Aatrox, being a squishy auto attacker wasn't why he needed change, but that still got changed.

Was Galio's immobility a negative FF or did Riot just want to change him? Was Galio's old Q really unfunctional? Did he need to lose ever reference to his E? Or his W?

See a lot of the time you are right. Many Akali players probably liked her unfair components. So the only way to update her to a healthier state would be to remove what they like, which was unfair or poor design.

On the other hand, Riot removes way more than is necessary pretty often. They considered removing Swain's ravens completely even though they knew it a fan favorite and core to him. They didn't care. Thats what pisses me off. I love Swain's rework. I love Aatrox's rework. But I cannot agree with their consistent disregard to change things that are perfectly fine.

Because at that point it is no longer just an update but a distortion of who the character was.

Looking at the new Nunu, I'm truly astounded. It is extremely difficult to write children in a fictional world mostly filled with adults, with the same importance as adults, without making the child come across as fake, shallow, or unlikeable, yet Nunu to me immediately clicked. It's geniunely heartwarming to hear him and Willump interact, so I think on the writing level at least he is absolutely spot-on. His new bio is similarly beautifully written.

As for the kit, I'll have to wait a little longer before making any kind of solid judgment, but it seems to hit the right notes as well. Older abilities like Consume and Absolute Zero seem to be perfectly preserved, which I like, whereas the new mega-snowball feels like a perfect fit for a champion known for throwing snowballs, in a roster full of ice-based champions who don't touch upon that at all.

I've been very critical of Riot in the past few years, including of many of their reworks, and I don't think this will invalidate that criticism. I think the VGUs for Swain, Aatrox and Galio in particular were clear misses in a process that used to be known for delivering consistently on high and enduring quality. Nunu feels like a return to form and, along with Warwick, an example of how a champion can be brought to modern standards of design and still retain their core identity, even if the original champion was full of problems.

EDIT: As of the time of this edit, this thread is the most popular current thread on Gameplay. Let this be remembered anytime someone says the Boards are always negative.

So from the looks of it, this thread seems to be getting ganged up on by the absolute worst of the League community. Did someone from a separate subcommunity ring an alarm bell or something, or did everyone just decide to pollute this thread on their own?

Actually, I've been here since 2012, and as said in my first comment here, I heavily dislike much of what Riot has done since Preseason 6, but by all means, do continue pointlessly spewing venom at everyone here on this thread who doesn't share your exact opinion.

Arakadia6 votes

'Kids' playing League isn't a bad thing.

People being toxic or having a negative effect on the community is.

TheKingOfBiches1 votes

If your not sensitive toxicity has no negative effect

Arakadia4 votes

On the other hand, most people don't like being demoralized and yelled at.

TheKingOfBiches1 votes

Online? You only get demoralized if your sensitive, and yelling is impossible online lol.

Arakadia3 votes

Berating someone in capital letters is generally received as yelling.

Nobody should have to put up with toxic people's bull shit. Thats not a matter of sensitivity, its a matter of being insecure or frustrated and wrongly taking it out on someone else.

Happens when the title has the words "rework", or anything with "Meddler", "Ghostcrawler", "CertainlyT." I can't blame them, hell may be starting to join that crowd. Especially after Aatrox's rework. I'll never forgive Riot for that abomination of a murderous rework, and I know they don't care.

Teridax683 votes

That's the thing, I've seen people criticize new or reworked champions in the past, and in the case of champions like Swain, Aatrox, Galio, Zoe, or Kai'Sa, I was one of the people who joined in that criticism. There definitely were some heated opinions there, but here it feels different, because it's mostly one very small group of people throwing out slurs and telling everyone else to kill themselves, alongside many more people expressing much milder opinions either way. Even by Boards standards, it's a lot more toxicity than what I'm used to seeing, which to me implies that the people partaking in it don't actually participate in the Boards regularly. The three main toxic users on here, for example, are all from EUW and only started posting for the first time on the Boards one hour ago, exclusively on the subject of Nunu (the third's posts are on this thread, but all got removed).

Fair point I didn't see the whole "kill yourself" things. I must have missed them. You're right of that going so far, though I do have that dreadful feeling that will be the norm on the boards since people are getting tired of Riot.

Some issues are complex and merit proper discussion going beyond a few sentences. Others, like your blatant display of hypocrisy, can be answered efficiently with few to no words. Seeing you've apparently been following me for some time now, was this meant to be your big moment?

TheKingOfBiches1 votes

I mean, nice answer, that "lol" definitely brought a nice argument. What hyprocisy did i display?

Teridax681 votes

I did also split your post in half in the quotes to showcase the inherent contradiction, but if you really need it spelled out for you, you claimed not to tell me how to post, except your immediate previous sentence did just that, by giving me explicit directions as to how I should respond to someone who told me to kill myself (apparently, by shutting up because it's apparently my fault).

I quite litteraly told you NOT to respond, that's not responding,so your not even making scense. Your not posting if your not responding.

(apparently, by shutting up because it's apparently my fault).

When did i say it was your fault?

You are finagling on semantics here. At the end of the day, that was you telling me how I should post (or, in this case, not post). You effectively found a way to completely contradict yourself from one sentence to the next.

{quoted}

When did i say it was your fault?

You expressly directed your post towards me as if I was the one who did something wrong in this instance. Effectively, you chose to direct blame and recrimination to the person who responded to being told to kill themselves, as opposed to the person who responded with that kind of personal attack in the first place. It is worth noting in this case that I did not even address that person to begin with, and that it was they who chose to respond to me first out of pure spite. There are effectively multiple layers of double standards in that post of yours.

It hurts so much to see this as an old Aatrox main... Why couldn't we get the same treatment?

TheKingOfBiches6 votes

Because old aatrox had to get completely changed because his kit was terribly designed

dimiondo2 votes

Only to be designed into a manaless lane bully who autowins lane and is frustrating to play against while retaining the old problems being large amounts of sustain and a revive. Oh and it also has the problem that azir and has, where he will never be viable but not busted in pro play. Oh is that not enough, well got to kill his lore and background as well even though everyone liked it and was rated one of the most thematic champs in the game, confirmed by riot themselves. Great rework 10/10.

But hey at least he isn't a stat check anymore because god forbid a character in this game rely on stats.

"I don't have critically think". There, that explains to everyone how much to trust what you say, better than anybody else could have put it.

TheKingOfBiches3 votes

Just telling you the obvious dude, you can accept it or not, fact of the matter is that old aatrox was terribly designed and that is why riot reworked him.

Arakadia9 votes

Considering they got rid of Swain's cane and DoT, and were willing to get rid of RAVENS AS A WHOLE, I think Riot just doesn't care enough about old mains in their reworks.

And its really odd. Sometimes you get Galios, and Swains, and Aatroxs who have lots of fine parts of their design ripped out. Othertimes you get WW and Nunu and even Evelynn who felt really like updates.
