Why These ADC Changes Are Actually More Brutal Than Most Seem to Be Seeing

Ok, let's get the obvious out of the way first: Every Zeal item has had it's cost increased by 200 gold and Zeal itself has had it's cost increased by 100 gold.

That is a pretty big deal in the long run, adding up over the 2-3 Zeal items you might get in a game.

The biggest hit, however, is definitely Infinity Edge. This item, while still good late game yes, is being absolutely erased from the early game unless the enemy is just insanely fed.

OLD INFINITY EDGE 3400 Gold Build Path: item 1038 + item 1037 + item 1018 + 425 Gold = 3400 Gold +70 AD +20% Critical Strike Chance UNIQUE Passive: Critical Strike bonus damage is increased by 50%.

NEW INFINITY EDGE 3700 Gold Build Path: item 1038 + item 1038 + 1100 Gold = 3700 Gold +80 AD UNIQUE Passive: Double your critical strike chance. UNIQUE Passive: 20% of damage dealt by critical strikes is converted into true damage.

item 1018 has been removed.

This item is now probably the MOST useless first big item purchase in the entire game. It's two passives are completely useless if this is your only item unless your champion can innately crit in their kit, upon which only the true damage portion is made use of. Worth 3700 Gold? I still would say no. This item isn't useful until at the very least your third big item purchase, which is going to take longer to get to now as an ADC due to Zeal item changes. On top of this, non-crit items are being buffed, making critical strike chance as a stat as a whole just much worse.

Sure, ADCs do have some pretty scary new tools. Stormrazer is a pretty freaky looking item that just guarantees a crit, which can make a few ADCs a little scary like Draven, Jhin, and maybe Twitch. Maybe Caitlyn too. However, it is overall a pretty meh item on most ADCs. Essence Reaver got a pretty big buff, being a huge purchase for a few champions like Corki, Kai'sa, and maybe Quinn. However, I am actually much more interested in using these items on non-ADCs! They look delicious on a few champions, such as... Stormrazer: Camille Nocturne Rengar Shaco MonkeyKing Essence Reaver: Fiora MasterYi Nasus Nocturne Warwick XinZhao You just have to look at some of these to imagine the abuse.

TL;DR The ADC item changes are not just straight nerfs, admitted. However, they nerf the big issue most have with them, which is how effective their Crit Burst Build is right now. It may still be a viable build late game, but it's probably the weakest build to build into in the early game out of every champion build out there right now. I expect ADCs to be MUCH weaker early game, which is welcomed 100%.

Brutal my ass. Adc’s needed proper nerfs, not miniscule nerfs.

The cost changes to zeal items are just reverts to what they previously were. They should have never been lowered in the first place. Hardest scaling role shouldn’t have the cheapest itemisation.

IE change is very good. Adc’s should be more-so late game scaling champions, they’re not supposed to burst people early/mid game unless they’re really fed.

Not to mention supports are still incredibly strong, therefore i’m sure adc’s will be fine. It’s not like season 6/early s7 where supports were underpowered and could be ignored for the most part.

Yeah its fine to make a class that is completely useless without the support rather than, you know nerfing supports.

The problem is.... it's just going back to lethality ADC meta. And Caster ADC's.

This does nothing to Varus/Jhin/Kog/MF/ect.

Maybe, but that's a different beast than what I was talking about here. It's also a pretty simple fix since Riot seems more willing these days to make (Melee Only) bonuses to item or (Ranged Only) nerfs, such as with Sterak's Gage and Conqueror.

I am a little worried about Essence Reaver. That's the one change I'm a little worried. Even if these changes don't immediately fix the issue, I believe they are in the right direction.

You should see how busted Stormrazor + Duskblade is on pretty much every ADC on PBE right now.

Build 2 items on something like Cait and you literally 1-2 shot casters sups and other adcs.

IK it's not that important, but IE is not 3400. It's 3600. And while yes IE is no longer a good first purchase, it never really was. IE was an ok first purchase, not remarkable unless you were really ahead or were playing a champion who scales better with ad, like MF or Jhin. I feel like if people don't go back to buying BT or BOTRK first, it'l probably just become BF->Zeal item->IE.

EDIT: was wrong about IE. 3400. When you see it on the google page, it is 3600, but 3400 on the page itself. mb

Most traditional Bottom Lane Marksman currently rush IE or Essence Reaver though. And even if they do go your path, that is still weaker than now simply due to the increase in gold costs and more awkward build path for IE. Basically, what I'm saying is that no matter what you do, Crit Marksman have been nerfed until much later in the game than when they currently spike.
