I don't think boosting is as big a problem as everyone is making it out to be.

So recently I made it to B2 and very recently B1. Starting duoing with a guy I met in one of these games who was S5 at the time. We enjoyed playing together and so we duoed and won a lot of games. He ended up in S4. I guess he made some friends there because yesterday he invited me to fill his spot because he had to go. These guys were all like Silver 4 and Silver 3. We had one guy who was B4 and I was B1 but all of the other 8 players were Silver, no lower than S4.

I figured, we'd go in and stomp as I'm accustomed to. I got to B1 by carrying most of my games so I was pretty used to it by now and I was expecting it. What followed was the most miserable experience I ever had playing this game. The game went on for about 40 minutes or so and throughout all of it, I was utterly and totally useless. The skill level of the game was so far above me that I just couldn't do anything. I couldn't make any kind of successful play. It was so bad that I considered it a 4v5, that's how useless I was. All I did was try shit and die. Over and over again.

It made me think about boosting. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to such a miserable experience.

The problem you described is exactly why boosting is a problem. Players like you who end up playing with players far above their skill level contribute close to nothing to the team and ruin the game for the rest of their teammates.

Believe me, it was just as bad for me not being able to do anything as it was for them trying to carry my heavy ass.

but the biggest problem with boosting is when the boosted players start playing without the players who got them higher than they deserve.

If their experience was anything like mine, they'd drop quickly and never want to do that again. If I lose a game in say, Bronze 3, despite the fact that I might complain about trolls, feeders etc, I can still figure out how to overcome it but when I was getting stomped by those Silvers, I had no clue what to do. Even after thinking about it, I still have no idea why I couldn't impact the game. This is what makes it unfun, when you feel overwhelmed and helpless. I don't think anyone can stand soloing for long high above their skill level.

because it's not a miserable experience if you have 3 diamond smurfs that dominate the entire game.

and you can always pick support when getting boosted

playing with silvers is not getting boosted

You misunderstand my point. Point is when everyone is far above you in skill, the game is not fun because everything you do will fail. Boosted players would probably get this experience and they would most likely drop and not want to get boosted again. How long do you think a Gold boosted to Diamond would want to continue getting shat on game after game.

I got a little taste of what its like to play with better players and I certainly didn't enjoy it one bit.

I didn't say I was boosted. I'm describing what it felt like to play above your skill level which is what boosted players would experience.

The problem is the people who actively want to get boosted sit through a bunch of games being useless, but they enjoy it because they get to see their lp/rank climb rather quickly. Then when they are 'done' getting boosted/get to the rank they want to be/feel they should be at, they stop playing continually with the people who were boosting them.

Then it all goes to hell.

They're playing with and against people they should not. They are useless, and they don't have friends to carry them through it anymore. They are expected to be as good as their rank suggests, and they are not. So then you, as a normal high silver/gold/whatever, have this guy running around your map that's supposedly on your team and at the same rank as you, and looks like he's completely lost and has no idea how to even play. Because his friends aren't there anymore telling him what he should do and where he should go. And you being a random queued with him, either don't have to the time to teach a stranger on your team how/where to go, or you attempt to help them and tell them where to go, and because they are not your friend, they take it the wrong way and get pissed at you trying to control them, or just ignore you, because they somehow believe they deserve the rank they are at just as much as you, without actually learning any of the skills that are normally required to get to that ranking.

Also, yes, you are probably right that the boosted person doesn't enjoy it (once they stop getting boosted) But for the whole time they are falling in ranks, they are a huge problem to 4 other people, cause they are dragging those people down with them.

And once they bottom back out in b5 or wherever they actually belong, then they get sad and angry at all the trolls and believe they do not belong at that rank, so they get their friends to 'help' them get back to the rank they think they belong, then it all repeats again.
