What the fuck happened to matchmaking lately?

DoktorKaiser··1 votes·713 views

I haven't played in 10 days due to exams and now I come back and in 5 days I have 10% win rate in around 30-40 games. What the fuck is happening? Either I had a stroke and cant play any more or maybe you are constantly throwing me incapable feeders, I cant possibly believe this, this is the worst losing streak I have had since season 1. Its a disgrace. If you want me to fucking quit just say it because I am really close to quitting. Its fucking mathematically impossible that the system that forces 50% win rate when you are winning a lot cant throw me JUST ONE, LITERALLY JUST ONE team that isnt full of feeders, trolls, afkers and literal beginners and brainless bronzies. The only logical solution I can come up with is that the meta is sooooooooo dependant on your adc not being mentally challenged that if the system throws me "better players" after a huge losing streak and they aren't playing adc, but rather the adc is a retard again , it really doesn't help at all. Or as I said you simply want me to quit giving you $$$$$$$ after 7 fucking years and quit. I cant possibly be more mad FUCK

Edit- just lost 2 more, 1 where my Rengar went afk because enemy jungler took his red at min 40, another where my support went 0 6 and started building botrk and ie. Im quitting definitely goodbye RIOT and fuck you very very much

matchmaking sucks more in norms

Lately? The system has always been bad. It has just gotten worse. This is what happens when you focus on player behavior and not player improvement. It's the same thing that has happened in society. Nobody is held accountable for their actions unless they are behaving themselves and doing nothing useful. Those that strive to better themselves are shit on.

Literally none of this has to do with matchmaking, you're still getting players in your mmr.

Also, learn how to carry. If you spend the whole game complaining whenever your adc feeds, you're going to lose.

Riot's matchmaking is team focused-- not individual focused, with an onus of speed as well, so you get teams roughly coinciding in average MMR (well, +/- 50 from what I've seen), but with great variation in individual MMRs, since higher MMR players are thrown in with lower MMR players averaging out the team, so they won't have to wait longer in queue.

It's supposed to be a balance between queue times and matchmaking, but it's usually blatantly obvious whether or not someone doesn't belong in the game. At least Starcraft has the courtesy to tell you you're about to be buttfucked by a blatant mismatch.

It actually has, why am I suddenly matched with silvers and bronzies when before that I used to play with plats and diamonds, btw all my games are normal blinds. I mean its just stupid, I havent played in 10 days not 10 years... And I do understand that I haven't hard carried almost any of the games due to me not playing my main champs, but there is a difference between qqing about bad teams when I wish to climb ranked or smt where I need 50% win rate and qqing about having bad teams when I have 10% win rate without feeding in almost any of these 40 games when the system is supposed to force 50% win rate. So the lost games arent my fault, they are my teams fault, 10% win rate when the system should force 50%. ITs definitely matchmaking's fault.

This is why context is important. When you only mention bad matches with no mention of the mode, there will be those that assume you mean ranked, like I myself would have. This however, entirely changes the argument. You went in normals, that alone is the reason you get the people you get. It's literally a free-all, in spite of the rumored mmr Normal mode has.

Its true there is an MMR, I always notice since I mostly play normals, I obviously constantly played with plats and diamonds and now I fell to bronze and silver imbeciles. Im in elo hell in fucking normals, its just pathetic. This system needs to change or I will have to finally quit after 7 fucking years. The meta, this shit, the short games its all piling up and Im starting to really hate the game...

Well I'm not stopping you from leaving. Not exactly encouraged to help a stranger stay that seems so inclined to bite his thumb right out of the gate, than calm down, stand back, and look at the changes that have been made since you left.

First off, I'm sorry that you had that experience. I know how frustrating it can be to come back from a break and find that you can't win games as much anymore.

This stems from MMR not deprecating enough over time when you are not playing the game for extended periods. I had a similar problem when I took a break for several months, when I came back I was stuck playing with and against players who were at an MMR much higher than my rusty-ass skill level.

It also explains why you feel more helpless when teammates screw up, because they may have more agency over the success of the game than you so their mistakes end up impacting the game worse.

Or this may stem from MMR deprecating too much over time when you are not playing for an extended period of time. Now it's matching you with lower MMR teammates, but keep in mind, not all low-rank teammates are low MMR. I rarely play ranked so I'm 'bronze' but I play lots of normals so I actually have a higher MMR in normals than I do in ranked.

I'm not sure how best to fix it because it's very difficult to predict a player's skill level after a break. But I believe something needs to be done about this.

The golden monkey that many of us seem to seek out as the answer to a problem like match comprehension may be just a myth. The problem is, MMR is a band-aid to a system that is broken by default. I can't recall the last time I'd ever played a game that involved PvP, that actually successfully created a skill based match-up system. Like League's case, there are way too many factors that can create a permanent rift. I don't see it as it being something we can avoid or fix entirely, and should fess up to the idea that we will deal with just as many ill experienced players as we will experienced.

It is as you said though, it being very likely his MMR degraded over time, which ultimately makes it more of his own doing than the fault of the game or the company involved. It may sound unfair to peg this on the person who's already frustrated with the current system, but that's ultimately what it comes down to, and there's not much that can be done about it.

Want "better players"? Keep playing to fix your MMR. Riot's employee's are not going to play your games for you.

I agree, somewhat. And I actually think that if matchmaking were perfectly balanced, queues would take forever and games would be too long. Not saying that things shouldn't be balanced, just that there is a middle ground somewhere between all that.

-snip-

A lot of problems regarding predictive metrics can be solved using machine learning and AI. It may be well within the realm of possibility to use data on players that have taken breaks and attempt to form a metric for how 'rusty' they get over time and use that to fix their MMR. If this were attempted you would have to also allow the MMR to bounce back as they warm back up and get back into the game.
