New Pantheon: Riot, why the damage immunity on his new E?

Cräfty··10 votes·6,088 views

From what I've watched so far, on youtube, Pantheon's rework seems really good, fun to play and definitely more skill based than his older self (although, not by that much).

But I've noticed that his new E ability has complete damage immunity for the complete duration of his channel (1.5 sec, or 2.5 sec if empowered by his new passive) while he's still doing decent damage, as well. This blocks turret damage too, which is pretty busted!

Why, though?! Why not give him increasingly X% damage reduction per rank, instead?! Like Warwick's E. It doesn't take a genius to understand that this new ability is gonna be OP and a pain to deal with.

New Pantheon is the son of Braum and Fiora, confirmed! The new E is Kinda like Braum's E + Fiora's W combined with pantheon's old E.

Also, I think that the CD on this new E should be a bit higher, since I've noticed it became easily spammable by rank 4 and 5, especially with CDR items, which Pantheon will definitely build (at least item 3071 and item 3142) and with runes, the 45% CDR on him is gonna be disgusting!

Maybe also give him a self slow when he's channeling E?! Although, this might be a big nerf, if Riot is planning on leaving the immunity on the ability, I think it's a fair limitation to have on the spell.

Otherwise, the rest of his kit seems fine to me, and the numbers seems ok, for now.

The answer is agency

His old defensive ability, his passive, was really bad

His new E gives him far more agency in team fights, he can function in the game way better than before

Before you just join a fight with ult, flash W someone, deal some dmg and probably die

Now pantheon has way more options and can be far more useful

I agree.

But don't you think that also being immune to turret damage is a bit extreme?! Are Riot gonna remake the same mistakes they did with Akali's shroud?!

Pantheon's identity is lane bullying and diving towers, I think it's necessary at least for now so the veteran Panth mains can adjust into the new kit while not forgetting who he is

His passive would block a tower shot or AA

I see your point. But my fear is that giving him a total damage immunity like this, even if it's limited by his direction, is gonna be more unhealthy for the game.

Remember, the old pantheon could only block turret shots or AA (or any spell that behaves like an AA. ex: Ez's Q or GP's Q). He couldn't block both at the same time. The best he could do is utilizing his spells and AAs to recharge his passive in quick succession to block 1 or 2 more AA/turret shot. With this playstyle, he was an oppressive enough champion to play against.

Now, he can block EVERYTHING, including turret damage, at the press of a button, at the same time! You see how overloaded this is?! Do you understand my concern now?

It's pretty strong but I wouldn't say overloaded since he already had the tower blocking mechanic previously

It might be a little overtuned but it won't be like Zoey overtuned or Day 1 akali overtuned lol

Pantheon's old passive was really strong.

The issue was it provided a lot of consistent, unfair power that was hard to play around.

It's fair to make the ability much stronger because there are now dynamics to it that make it possible to play around.

I doesn't block projectiles and it only makes him immune to damage that's coming from the direction he's facing. So, I don't think it's that strong. Definitely better than a point and click stun.

His W is still a point and click.

Also he's new E block turret damage, which is broken!

It only blocks damage from the direction he’s facing. And he’s slowed if he moves sideways or backward so you can just out-maneuver behind him, use aoe abilities underneath him, or flat out CC him. Heck you can even just save your abilities and move to the side to avoid the damage portion since he’s slowed if he doesn’t move forward. And depending on circumstances, you can even dash through him and punish him from behind if you’re daring.

The turret block is not a gigantic deal since he’ll have to face the tower during the 1.5/2.5 second duration to block it properly. And again, he’s slowed when he moves backwards, so I doubt he’ll be able to kite the tower fast enough without taking some punishment from it. Frankly, I think the tower immunity mostly only benefits coordinated tower dives, which in most cases, doesn’t need turret block anyway.

Finally, Pantheon still builds primarily damage, so he’ll have minimal tank stats in most games. Honestly he’s probably gonna need the damage immunity in the late game since he’s a diver, and will probably blow up in focused fire like his old kit.

you do know this is literally his first day on the PBE and things can change, right?

What is the sense in making a knee-jerk post like this when he hasn't even been out for a day yet

nothing is set in stone

You do realize that forums like these are meant for discussions and posting in suggestions, right?!

What's wrong with me discussing his current state on PBE and giving suggestions?! I didn't attack anyone, I didn't insult anyone, I didn't complain or cry about anything. I just asked Riot a question and then gave my input on the matter. It's just an opinion.

If you're allergic to opinions and get triggered this easily by nothing, then maybe don't go in this forum and start reading the threads. That's unhealthy for you and for everyone.

Nah, it's probably damage immunity on e only when he has 5 stacks of passive. So it's prob balanced. And Yasuo exists, so...

I wish! From what I've read on the ability tooltip that you can see is many youtube videos atm, it's stated that he's immune to all damage even when he uses his normal E. The empowered E only increases the duration of the channel from 1.5 sec to 2.5 sec and deals more damage.

And this is not my personal biased interpretation or anything, this is literally what the ability stated. You can check it out on any video about the new rework and see for yourself. This spell is busted!

And Yasuo exists, so...

LUL.

That would be too weak. It is fine the way it is.

Maybe it could block all AA's but one spell or tower shots before breaking

I agree his E is going to be the "OMG OP" of the week when he comes out, but I don't think you need to mechanically change it to much, just change how it interacts with certain effects. DoT effects should ignore the E, especially ignite in particular. Certain AoE like Morgana's E or Xarath's W should also go through. Only mechanical nerf I think could be a appropriate is he moves backwards slower, so it's less of a free disengage spell if the target wants to commit still.

Because Panth currently on Life has a Immunity Block on his passive....

IMO This is a good change to him. Those with skill will use it to its fullest. He is in NO way OP tho.

Watch all the high ELO streamers play him. They all died quite a bit. Unlike reworks like Akali where they died maybe 3 times on their first time playing the champ.

That shows that this one is Good.

New pantheon has no attack speed buff/ Healing/or even super heavy burst. His ult is a global ult and is for 1v2 or 2v3 skirmishes. Unlike irelia or other lowskill champs wiyh point and click ..... i think he is balanced. Just like any bruiser he falls off. The sustain game needs to go away and true dmg and stacking abilities. Game would be easier tk balance
