Huge FPS drops in game, in both SR and TFT, since patch 9.22 came out.

The game is unplayable, right now.

My FPS is dropping quicker than G2 in world finals.

EDIT: 04-02-2020 New system:

  • Asrock Taichi Z390
  • i7 9700K @ 4,80 GHz
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM
  • GTX 1080
  • Dedicated SSDs for OS and Games.

...And the lag is worse than ever. Whenever I move the mouse cursor, the game stutters. And if I move it fast (as in URF), everything stops and for some reason the CPU usage drops to idle.

I have tested with overlays (Fraps etc.) and it is NOT the cause.

I contacted Support and they recommended that I disable IPv6 and set a public DNS (Google's DNS IP 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) which sadly didn't improve things.

Again, tried with fullscreen, windowed mode and borderless. No change. Tried with V-sync and G-Sync on and off. No change. Tried highest and lowest graphics settings. No change.

EDIT: 06-02-2020 ...A "clean boot", per Support recommendation, (Win + R -> msconfig -> Services -> Disable all non-OS services) without having any other application running does fix it, but that is NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION !!!

EDIT: 10.02.2020 Tried manually locking the monitor refresh rate in Windows display settings (60 Hz, 85 Hz, 100 Hz and 120 Hz). Minimal change (lower refresh rate was better).

EDIT: 15-02-2020 Problem solved! Reduced the polling rate for my mouse (Steelseries Sensei 310) from default 1000 Hz down to 250 Hz (Steelseries Engine required). And the ingame cursor movement stutter completely went away.

Since patch 9.19 came out in my case. Been worse with every patch since.

Again, my specs:

  • Asus Sabertooth Z77
  • i7 3770K @ 4,20 GHz
  • Corsair Vengeance LP 32 GB 1600 MHz RAM
  • GTX 1080
  • Dedicated SSDs for OS and Games.

Can run games like Alien: Isolation, Doom 4 and Dying Light with everything maxed out just fine @ 2560x1440. It even runs Crysis reasonably well!

Jokes aside, I am CPU limited here now. Once the game .exe takes over 40 % CPU, I am effectively lagging, even with a steady 140+ FPS and my usual ping of ~70 ms. It's certainly not packet loss, I know what that looks like.

It's not thermal throttling either, as I have found myself required to play with monitoring software up on another screen while playing to see what the hell is going on. I know my thermal paste is too old and should be replaced, but that doesn't explain why this game is the only game that's suffering when it's all good in other games that's WAY more taxing on both the CPU and GPU. Dying Light takes roughly a constant 85 % on both, and it runs fine.

The occasional 0 FPS, 4 second screen freezes shows some actually funny reading in Task Manager - the CPU usage on all 4 cores/8 threads drops down to effectively idle for that brief period before spiking right up to about 80 % for a moment and settles down again at the usual 30-35 %.

And can I just say...prior to those 3 patches or so ago, my CPU usage for this game sat at around 20 % and all was well. Now it's almost double that usage.

Tried windowed mode, borderless and fullscreen. Tried a complete reinstall of the game as well about a week ago. No change. The client actually froze and simply crashed on me without error yesterday, like an engine increasingly misfiring and finally spluttering to a halt, before automatically restarting. First time ever I've seen that one.

It's either a client resource improvement or Ebay for me before season 10 pre-season begins, because I won't have any more of this. Sure, I can OC some more by pushing the voltages, but then I'd be forced to change the thermal paste. And while I should do that anyway, I'm not risking my CPU over this game alone.

I'll come back to it when I get my new PC up and running, though I expect not even my upcoming i7 9700K will be able to overcome these spikes.

EDIT: 26-11-19 It would seem ANY overlay possibly causes issues. It could be a one-time coincidence, but I just tried without Fraps or custom cursor overlay. No issues at all, either with pinging or opening the store. Tested again, and Fraps is definitely part-guilty - or, rather, League is responsible for suddenly making overlays like Fraps an issue.

If this is actually the case, then I think it's related to their anti-cheat system, and how it doesn't really compute "safe" programs.

EDIT: 28-11-19 Done some more testing. Running without Fraps or the cursor overlay isn't consistent so it certainly isn't a definitive solution.

Aha... I set the game to lowest details and lowest resolution, the game looked like mario, still the FPS was dropping. Good to know it's not my laptop problem.

same! Borderless mode = LAG

pickabolt11/22/2019, 3:58:34 PM3 votes

It’s seriously almost as if the game is studdering, no matter how high your FPS is, if it drops more than about 60 frames in a spike, your game will freeze, I lost a turret dice the other day because I had mini-freezes 4 or 5 times in one dive. I’m on a 7600k and a 1070 btw... used to run on max settings at a constant 120-140 FPS, bruh, riot get your shit together with this

TRANSLATED FROM THE SPANISH SIDE.

Hello people,

The development team knows about this problem on a global scale and is actively working on it. Thanks to its reports, the development team has enough RPDs and customer logs to find and solve the problem. At the moment there are several theories, but the team is actively working to find the problem to fix it.

As soon as we have news of a solution we will let you know how and when it will be solved.

Edit: Some people report improvements with the procedure found in this post. We know this does not solve for everyone but it can help.

The problem is that so far things indicate that this only affects certain PCs with certain hardware, such as dual core processors or certain infrastructure. The problem is much more resonant in regions like LATAM because the average CP in our countries is considerably less recent than in regions of greater economic development.

Riot fix this fucking bug its so fucking anoying and no one enjoys playing like this

Storminus11/22/2019, 2:15:14 PM2 votes

Hi guys i'm having a similar problem with frame drops but i'm on a strong PC rig with gtx 1070, I9 9900K, 16gb ram oc 3300hz and game installed on my m2.0 drive. Game is running around 200-300 fps since on of this later updates after world game started to dip down to 150, which is not the issue. it's this sudden freezes that have started to occur and from what i can tell it wount mather what settings you run the game have tried diff ones from 2K down to 720p.

Quality and other check boxes on graphics side do not help either. My third party software that i use to check system performance tells me the game for some reason starts to spike and dip in the cpu department even if my I9 cpu would usually not use more then 15-20% pwr in a LoL match.

So i'm guessing this have to do with some bad optimization on there end when it comes to certain cpu? Since some of my other friend do not suffer from the same performance related problem. Yes I've done repair game and checked so my system is running on the latest drivers.

Hope this can be of some help.

huferis11/23/2019, 9:44:13 PM2 votes

Still the same thing happening today and not just in normals, but in TFT aswell (though it doesnt affect TFT gameplay as much). Getting these horibble lag spikes, when my frames drop from 120 to 33 for a second and then it goes back to 120 again. Tried it with lower quality settings, tried repatching and reinstalling it, dont think that it could be anything from the technical side (I7-5930k, 16gb 2400mhz ram, 1080ti, game itself is installed on ssd storage), cuz every other game works flawlesly as before. Wrote a couple of reports to riot in the last week, but nothing has changed meanwhile.

Ekhasm11/22/2019, 12:55:57 AM1 votes

I still get 200--300 fps

xXxLaky11/22/2019, 12:53:58 AM1 votes

Since the new patch went live i randomly get fps drops. I play the game at around 250-300 fps... but since the new patch I randomly drop from 250-300 fps to 15-30 fps for a couple of seconds... can you fix this problem????

yea and my spec is ASUS ROG Strix X299-E Gaming INTEL Core i9-7920X, 12x 2.90GHz CORSAIR Vengeance RGB DIMM Kit 32GB DDR4-3200 ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti ROG-STRIX-RTX2080TI-11G

PC is not problem.....

FishFishFish11/21/2019, 9:32:28 AM1 votes

I have this problem since preseason, i have a gtx 1050 and normally in medium settings it was running with 130+fps. Now i get 80 and every minute fps drops to 0.. Any solution?

Karaflo Belos11/17/2019, 6:00:17 PM1 votes

they keep telling me its my computer's fault. What a way to send me playing other games after being 10 years league of legends player. Cheers riot

NelsieLisnen11/13/2019, 7:08:57 PM1 votes

Fix? I've just conformed to the truth that I'll need to reinstall league with every new patch.

Spielzeit TGx11/23/2019, 3:29:07 AM1 votes

Same issues here, FPS dropping from 240 (fixed to Monitor specs) really funny to read about the "fix" RIOT posted... NOT at all an issue of PCs, this is clearly on Riot's end

"The problem is that so far things indicate that this only affects certain PCs with certain hardware, such as dual core processors or certain infrastructure" that's just plain and simple BS...

Current gaming rig:

Core i9 9900K 64GB DDR4 2080 RTX x2 Asus ROG Strix Z390 dual 512 GB NVME M.2 drives (samsung EVO)

Can go to max FPS when unlocked at max settings... still getting FPS drops and constant freezes since 9.23

spo0kzz11/23/2019, 4:10:25 AM1 votes

is riot not responding to this? me and all of my friends are having this issue, i get 250 frames otherwise, randomly dropping sometimes as low as 1 fps

Sappheyros11/23/2019, 10:19:03 AM1 votes

Same here, yesterday got freeze every 5 sec, today every 10 seconds then' where's waldo search' begins looking for wherever my champ has gone. Those freezes happens even in tft but less often. No potato PC here, still totally unplayable. (tried fix, tried clean new installation, nothing worked so far, waiting to know what procedures they are suggesting to try, tho) [Edit for typo]

2MuChBl00dSh3D11/23/2019, 12:23:01 PM1 votes

Same here. I usually play on 200-300 fps but since the season ended I keep having constant fps drops and freezes. I tried lowering the settings to a minimum but it did nothing. My rig:

Windows 10 ultimate Gtx 1050 ti I7 4460 Kingston 2 x 4gb

Riot pls fix this asap

Naruto as Hokage11/23/2019, 1:30:41 PM1 votes

Like you all said i have had the same problem. before i was running steady 200 fps now it drops down to 1 and 60 for just one sec and back up and the game freezes for 2 sec and can ruin a moment when every sec counts in league. My pc is 1080ti 11gb, 7800k and 32 gb ram and it doesnt matter because the game is fuckjed

random1v1urder1/31/2020, 8:57:32 PM1 votes

Same issue. GTX1080 Ti, high end spec machine. Can run easily at 250-300 FPS and it regularly drops to 20-30 causing what is essentially a brief freeze, before climbing back up. Super annoying, and only has been a recent thing (within the last month).

Prism Protector11/24/2019, 12:11:55 AM1 votes

Yeah, same with me. No matter what I do (reinstall game, update graphic driver, etc), my frames won't stop dropping to 01. I don't have the best laptop, I get 50fps at most, but it never dropped like this. It's a shame, because my ping finally stopped being a bitch.

ThunderCraft11/24/2019, 4:31:53 AM1 votes

probably we are cloud computing or mining doge coin.

MaDKing OurozZ11/25/2019, 11:19:19 AM1 votes

Are you using the blitz? try turning off the overlays or even the blitz!

Hotrodoli11/26/2019, 12:35:59 AM1 votes

Same here.

I always had my frames locked at 144 fps because of my monitor and noticed they were hovering at 100-120 while in game more recently. I thought I was going crazy as I reset almost everything over the past week. Last time I looked at my uncapped frames they would stay around 200-300. What's happening here D: Don't even get me started on the stutters also :/

i7 8700k @ 4.4 Ghz 16 gb ddr4 3200 MHz RTX 2070 8 gb

Am having this exact issue since last 2/3 patches also @RiotGames please optimize this asap it is literally unplayable

NWZephyr12/1/2019, 2:50:08 AM1 votes

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but for me (high spec computer), fully closing the Blitz.gg App worked (I have to pull up my cheat sheet on my laptop on my desk besides my monitor, but hey, I'd rather have that then dropping frames).

Albotaran12/7/2019, 9:40:15 AM1 votes

In my case, fps drops were caused by my second monitor. I just an unplugged HDMI cable and fps drops are gone.

I just purchased a new gamer pc 16 gigs of ram, dedicated ssd, 1050TI 4gb, got home and updated league of legends. For 4 days now i have been troubleshooting my pc. every possible battery maximizer, fps configuration you could think off. Been so pissed that i was thinking about sending it back. So happy i realized this. Note: Dont play any other game, but should have downloaded one to isolate.. FML

AidanWR1/16/2020, 11:52:41 PM1 votes

I hadn't had this happen to me until this patch. If I had a browser open, I would go from 126fps, down to literally 00fps

Dewfuel11/22/2019, 2:10:11 PM1 votes

Bump. Having this issue.

Is there a admin post about the issue yet?

Thanks
