A message from a jungler to all lanes!

"P.S.: I posted this on Reddit here, with more details and comments, if you care to check it out. I hope you have a good read! "

Dear laners,

I'm a main jungler and I'm getting sick and tired of your BS excuses to why you lost your lane and you blaming me for all your mistakes. So let me make things clear for you all laners, who know nothing about playing jungle, and let me give you the most important guidelines that you all need to follow every single game to win lane, and eventually the whole game:

  • When I say " I don't need a leash ", that means I'm going to solo the god damn camp to allow you to go to your lane early and start your wave management for an easy early laning phase. I don't want your help... just fuck off already and go dominate your lane early, if you can! Also, I don't want the enemy team to know where I start my jungle sequence.

  • When I say " I'mma gank your lane at lvl 3 " I expect YOU to set up the gank for me. How? You trade in lane, you chunk them down a little bit, you save your mana/CDs and you don't push early, for an easy gank (unless I specifically tell you I'mma dive them at lvl 3, depending on the matchups). So if you push early, and the enemy team is still full HP, if you go oom in lane before I come, if you use your CDs while I'm about to come to your lane, don't give me that BS about " where is that gank at lvl 3, hein?! " Yeah, no shit, sherlock, how do you expect me to dive a full HP laner at lvl3 while also surviving?

  • When I ping " ? " or " ! " in the river or in the jungle, that means that the enemy Jungler is there or most likely there. And when I ping on your lane, that means you're about to get ganked if you don't back the fuck off! So if you die ~10 sec after I spammed pinged the whereabouts of the enemy jungler, it's not my fault, it's your own damn fault!

  • When I ping " on the way " while I'm doing a jungle camp, that does NOT mean to engage right away, that means " prepare yourself, I'mma finish this camp real quick and gank for you! ". So, don't be stupid, save your CC and your CDs for when I'm there and don't get engaged on or poked out of the lane before I get there.

  • When I declare my intent to gank for your lane, ping the enemies' summoner spells if they used them early on. Type it in chat if necessary! Infos exchange before ganks is crucial!

  • When the enemy jungler ganks you and you survive with a sliver of health, please RECALL! Don't get greedy for that canon or for that wave that's crushing into your turret. I know, it sucks to lose all that cs, but if you're low HP, you're gonna get dove 100%, so you're gonna lose the wave anyway, so be smart, be safe, just back the fuck off the lane!

  • Buy item 2055 item 2055 item 2055 item 2055 item 2055 item 2055 item 2055 for fuck sake! It pisses me off to end a game and realize that only me, and the support, are buying control wards. EVERYONE should buy control wards, especially for when we're doing drakes and Baron! Yes, even you mister ADC.... even you! So, I don't wanna see anyone leaving the base with 75g or 150g... just buy the god damn wards, it will save your ass and win you games, trust me!

  • If you're getting camped by the enemy jungler, that means that he's made it his mission to make your life miserable this game! So, just accept the fact that you're getting camped and play safe. Hug your turret if necessary. Don't give away anymore kills and just wait for me to come help you. Chances are, if you're getting camped, I'm camping their other lanes as well. It all depends on our win condition, my friends... WIN CONDITION! If you're useful and playing well, I'll come for you, don't worry. If not, just stay back and survive, you're irrelevant anyway, so just don't feed and let us carry you!

  • Speaking of win condition: When I'm camping a lane and I don't gank for your lane, that means I'm focused on that lane this game. If, say, you're playing Soraka + Ezreal bot lane, but my top lane is playing Riven vs Darius, I'mma camp that bitch because of how volatile the matchup is and she can carry us to victory. So, just play safe bot lane, as you should, since your champs are safe to begin with!

  • If you're losing lane hard, and I'm not ganking for you, that means I'm focusing on getting our winning lanes ahead. So, if you're a 0/4 Ashe, don't spam ping me for help, because I won't come for you, because I'm busy getting our 2/0 Fizz even further ahead to carry us later! I have other shit to do than to babysit a losing lane that won't offer anything significant in terms of teamfighting or split pushing...

  • If I know that the enemy jungler is invading me and I ping it ahead of time, move your ass down to where I ping and help me get the mofo out of my jungle! Even if you lose cs for it, me winning back my jungle and getting the exp I need will eventually translates into a gank for you, seconds after! Help me now, I help you later! If you don't come help me get control back over my jungle, guess what happens next?! The enemy jungler is ahead of me now and he's gonna start ganking even more and make all of your lives even more miserable... So be smart and help your jungler out... yes, that's right! junglers don't only help you, they also need help sometimes!

  • If I ping that I'm going for the scuttle crab, please move to the river! You don't need to help me kill it or stay there to watch me kill it. You just need to move with me for, like, 1 or 2 sec. I need the enemy team to know that I got backup so they won't try to collapse on my ass and kill me. This is especially more important if I gank for you and give you lane priority so that you can help me secure the crab/dragon/herald, and then you just ignore me and recall and throw the lead I created out of the window.

  • If I gank for you several times and give you a lead over your opponent(s), I expect you to win lane. If you lose lane afterwards, you're just bad! Even more, if you lose 1v1 (or 2v2), you just got outplayed! Which means, you suck!

  • If I make a call for drake or Baron, I expect all of you to come with me to the baron/dragon pit. If say " just bait it ", that means don't hit the god damn thing and just set up a trap for the enemy. Otherwise, just burst it down! I prefer for you to commit with me than you being pussies and not wanting to kill the objective because you wanna farm or something. If the call ends up being bad, I'll take responsibility for it! I hate it when we make a call for baron and the ADC just goes to my jungle and farm, or pushes a lane alone and get picked out, when he's the one who's supposed to burst down the baron with us...

  • If I push the wave to the turret after a gank, that's me helping you reset the wave while getting some gold/exp for my troubles. Don't be a bitch about it and spam ping me to back off the lane, stop crying, JESUS!

  • If I'm 6/0, just trust me to carry the early to mid game! If our team is losing 11 to 20 kills, it doesn't mean it's over, it just means we fucked up the early game. I can get us back into the game if you just believe and stop spamming /ff every goddamn moment! Watch the G2 vs SKT games for motivational purposes.

  • I'm a jungler, so I need to farm my camps. There will be some downtime moments where junglers are just farming, so don't be impatient and spam pings every damn seconds!

  • And finally, keep in mind that I'm just one person playing one champion. I can't be at all 3 lanes at once! Also, I'm only human, so if I fuck up a gank, I know I fucked up and I'll do better next time. no need to flame me and go afk/int because I fucked up one gank! Also, if I take some kills early on, don't be salty about it. I need to snowball early if I wanna have an impact on the game. Afterall, junglers fall off late game, so let me shine while I can, I guess!

Anyway, this is my letter to all of you laners that love to hate on junglers all the time. I hope you understand these guidelines, that will help you win more games, and understand why your (decent) jungler is doing the things he's doing the way he's doing them. I know that there are some bad junglers out there who really suck at their job. But for all of us decent ones, I hope we reach a mutual understanding.

In the hope that this will help make the Rift a better place, all is left for me to say is: Have a nice day and good luck in your games.

Cräfty.

A message to all junglers from a toplaner:

WATCH SOME GOD DAMN WAVE MANAGEMENT EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS.

When you "tax" after a gank and I'm recalling make sure the wave fully crashes into their tower. Don't just kinda push it out and then leave, the enemy reinforcement wave could come in and stop it from fully getting under the tower creating a really shitty wave that doesn't bounce back to me for a while and causes me to lose a ton of gold and XP. To do this you'll have to walk under tower, get aggroed by the enemy wave, then walk past the tower, dragging the enemy wave with you and making sure it doesn't delay our minion wave from fully hitting the turret. If there's a huge juicy wave and I'm recalling with intent to TP back then fuck off, I'm obviously planning to set up a freeze there and you "helping me push" isn't very helpful. Go take your own farm and don't mess up my freeze.

When you ask for help and your laner is under tower, just concede a camp and do something more productive. Nobody is going to give up 4+ creeps in XP for one jungle camp, it's just not worth it.

Don't expect the enemy jungler to randomly stay and fight you to the death after I leave lane. As soon as I leave he's going to back off and I'll have wasted a ton of time. So I won't leave in the first place and you shouldn't be starting a fight over nothing. You didn't "catch them", they agreed to fight you and as soon as they see the odds turning(by lanes going missing) they'll decide they don't want to fight you anymore and go away.

If I have 2-3 waves stacked up under tower don't gank. It's an insanely stupid idea I'm probably down in XP and I REALLY want to collect all that gold and XP under tower as well as clearing the threat of a massive minion wave(seriously, that shit hurts earlygame). IF you gank now it's extremely risky. I'll be missing cs and I'll have to tank that massive fucking creepwave. It's only ever worth it if we get a very quick kill, if we have to chase them down I might even miss on creep XP and if we only get flash and no kill then I'm actually screwed because I'm losing resources under tower for that gank. Just hold it in for like 15 seconds and let me deal with that stacked up wave.

Also: don't start fights we can't win. If I'm like Ryze against Renekton don't be stupid and start dumb fights over scuttle, we can't win that at lvl 3, Renekton is so much stronger than me in that 2v2.

If I set up a freeze don't expect any further help from me. If I'm freezing I'm obviously not playing for pressure or to leave lane, I want to use that freeze to stay safe against the enemy jungler while also zoning my opponent off. If they overextend feel free to come for a free kill but if I leave lane that freeze is going to push into my tower and I'm going to be fucked. If you're really dead set on going for an invade or Herald give me a 30 second advance notice so I can get my wave management in order before I have to leave lane. Don't ping me like 3s before you go, wave management takes time. To get a wave where I want it I might need the next reinforcement wave and those spawn in 30 second intervals.

Don't tell them or they're going to cry like victims and bray about how "it isn't their job to win our lanes".

At the same time they'll also cry about how we don't help them win their jungle during enemy invades due to "fear of falling behind".

Fine then don't expect us to contest objectives when we are 3 levels behind the enemy jungler. My frustration happens when my mid doesn't help me contest scuttle and then they flame me for being behind later.

The only thing I see the worse junglers do is try to play the victim regardless of the situation. Either help lanes which get camped if you'll wish to receive help during an invade or cry to your mommies about how junglers have it bad.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Or, you know, blamers all have shitty attitudes

Sometimes its the Jungler's fault. Sometimes its the laner's fault. But its a team game and most players make mistakes, you both probably have problems with your play and acting entitled to another player doing their job perfectly is stupid.

Where in some cases it would be better for the jungler to just back off and concede.

You are mostly wrong on this post. With the changes to jg xp, once enemy jg gets foothold in your jg, you are probably done for. You get that extra cs when you ignore this scenario, but 9/10 times you just turned game into 4v5. If your jg is pinging you to show up, it's cause you need to show up.

Yeah, but what's a level 3 kassadin + yi combo going to do to stop a talon (at level 4 since he has a level lead off of prio) and a level 3 lee? It would be better for yi to just predict the invade and path differently or at the very least back off.

Fuck off, I jungle mained for years (still would if I cared enough to play league) and this attitude is why people dislike junglers. We do not have any special priority for our pings just like laners don't.

Is that why every single complaint thread about toplane is drowned out while PVE monkeys post here several times daily and be massively upvoted? Yeah right. Laner rejects with the most overpowered and dumbed down role still trying to explain other roles how to play is just hilarious.

As a support main, I love when junglers use pings. Ping me when you're going for a scuttle that the enemy might contest? Sweet, a chance to put my jungler ahead of theirs and support the whole team indirectly. Ping me when you've just cleared a camp and are moving into position to gank? Perfect. Now I can blow some mana on a poke knowing that the HP advantage will actually matter. That it won't be erased by lifesteal before a fight goes down. Just know that "mana: 6%" and "91% to level 6" are ping code for "please don't" and "not yet", respectively. See either of those and you might not want to gank, unless your plan does not require my help.

From a man of all lanes to all the junglers.

  • For the love of Rito please do not force early ganks into big enemy minion waves early.
  • Do not force invades early when enemy has lane priority.
  • Usually do not even try to fight enemy jungle anywhere when they have priority
  • Please consider your ganking angle, if you just run up from the farthest distance possible with ample of warning for the intended victim then chances are they escape and dont you dare blame anyone but yourself for this.
  • Be mindful that the enemy jungle can countergank so dont chase too far, a bad sneak attack can quickly turn into a enemy double kill.
  • Dang jungler, even if your ass is getting invaded i will not leave my tower to help you as Anivia against a Zoe or some other burst fellow, go to bed you fool :(

I could probably have written my last line in the same tone as he wrote his worse segments but that would just be in poor taste so i toned it down but did it anyway to make a subtle point.

We laners get properly frustrated with the junglers for good reasons too x)

I'm by no means a jungle main but as a former support main and just a player in general...

HOLY FECK can people please WARD. Do people not understand how important vision is? How useful it is? How much easier it would make everyone's lives? You wonder why we're losing fights - well maybe, because you pick them in dark spots, or people needlessly roam and get picked off. Or they're able to easily split or take objectives whereas when you decide to attempt dragon, you do so blindly and then surprise it's either stolen or you all die because the enemy came.

So many games I hit tab and 3/5 people on the team have a vision score of zero. ZERO. Even without control wards, you have refreshing 2-stack free regular wards! HOW CAN YOUR SCORE BE ZERO -

ahem.

Then again, in one of these instances I did suggest politely that everyone ward more when possible, a single time. Of course, the response I received was tryhard don't tell me what to do fuck you :) , so I guess I'm just wrong. (o_o)/

As a Support Main, I agree with all of this. It's easier for me to count the games where a Jungler that has been helped when needed hasn't used that help to get the win than times that they have. With the current gank-meta Jungler is the hardest role to recover on if you're behind, and the longer a game goes on, the more poaching of jungle camps happens, so the Jungler really needs early and mid game to go in their favour.

If you've played lanes before, you know how much the exp loss is if the opponent is capable of crashing a huge wave into your turret while you're not there. Combined with how volatile top lane match ups are, this is a surefire way of losing the lane hard without even actually feeding. Then you gonna blame me for losing the lane hard and ignore my lane anyway. On top of that, if he has a wave crashed in, he'll be in position to assist his jungler first without even losing anything.

Look at lane priorities before you blindly charge in to defend a camp. Just because "It's your camp" doesn't mean you have to not lose it. Sometimes you just have to give up a camp to Udyr if you're an Eve who can't duel, and go take one of his elsewhere(especially when your lanes have lost priority). It sucks but your lanes won't always get priority to help. It's like how laners deal with losing matchups without jungle assistance, we give up cs, soak exp, and farm under turret.

Sure, I'll come if I have priority and it does not risk me losing a wave or two of cs. Otherwise, give up your camp, we will probably both die or I will let you die. Even if you gank immediately after, it does not fix all the gold/xp I lost that was worth more than your camp. Your jungle camp is not worth my lane.

  • If I ping that I'm going for the scuttle crab, please move to the river! You don't need to help me kill it or stay there to watch me kill it. You just need to move with me for, like, 1 or 2 sec. Once again, scuttle is not worth my lane. I will rotate if I can but it is your job to consider which lanes have priority before you try to make a game warping play.

Whole team has to make and agree on this call. Ping out smite if you do not have it but I will 100% let you run it down if you make a bad call for baron/dragon.

  • If I push the wave to the turret after a gank, that's me helping you reset the wave while getting some gold/exp for my troubles. Don't be a bitch about it and spam ping me to back off the lane, stop crying, JESUS!

If I spam ping you off a wave, it is probably for a reason. Either I deny more xp/gold by letting it push back, get a better recall, or pushing it ruins my recall timing.

Hi. Jungle main here. This is so damn accurate and unbelievably insane that people can't understand what half of these imply. I legit will lose my mind if I ping that the enemy is invading and they cant just WALK UP to ward/check. Thank you for posting this sir, much appreciated.

“When I ping " on the way " while I'm doing a jungle camp, that does NOT mean to engage right away, that means " prepare yourself, I'mma finish this camp real quick and gank for you! ". So, don't be stupid, save your CC and your CDs for when I'm there and don't get engaged on or poked out of the lane before I get there.“

So, I made an account recently to learn Jungle with, and I started out in Iron as you do.... and my god... reading this bit gives me severe PTSD. Honestly jungle as a role feels pretty bad, especially with how the community can treat the jungler. A year ago I woulda said Support was the worst role..... how wrong I was.

Also I love this entire post it’s the epitome of its funny because it’s true.

If I push the wave to the turret after a gank, that's me helping you reset the wave while getting some gold/exp for my troubles. Don't be a bitch about it and spam ping me to back off the lane, stop crying, JESUS!

HOLY FUCK THIS ONE TOO. JESUS, like that first one at least is mostly in lower elo, but my god I see the top, mid, and ADC ping the ever living FUCK out or jungler just trying to help push a lane after a SUCCESSFUL GANK. This is why I bought the Rammus thumb-up emote over any other.

As a laner, i disagree. You are supposed to SIT on my lane and ignore every1 else besides the lane i'm in. You get level 3, you never go back into the jungle.

Top laner here:

Here are the reasons I don't rotate to help scuttle or stop an invade: 1: I'm under tower. I'm not giving up 5+ minions and the enemy laner is going to be there before me. And if the fight goes poorly and I die, I'm going to lose probably an entire wave and maybe turret plating. That's alot more then you losing one scuttle. 2: I will die to my laner when I try to rotate. He could be ahead in gold/items, levels, or just have a much better early game. 3: We won't win the inevitable fight. 2/3 matchups are bad, I took a bad trade, one of the lanes is super fed, etc. 4: Enemy support is roaming. Miss me with that 3v4. 5: Our Mid can't help, and theirs can. Maybe Our Mid backed/died and theirs did not. Maybe Our Mid is behind, under tower, took a bad trade, etc.

It's a risk vs reward thing. Alot of times contesting scuttle or stoping an invade is an extreme risk with little reward for me. 9/10 games where I rotate it goes poorly, and I get super behind.

Let's say I rotate to stop the invade, and my laner does not. Enemy jungler backs off, and you get to farm. And now I'm down a level in xp.

"I'll gank your lane" Good Joke. I'm waaaay past asking for ganks. The only time I do is in games with friends. I honestly don't even complain anymore about not getting ganks, because that feels like every game.

No offense, but I'll trust myself to carry over random Solo Q junglers. I don't ping when junglers get the kill, but I do get annoyed. If the enemy laner has tp, the 75g from that assist is barely worth losing xp and farm during the gank. Wave resets, and then it's like the gank never even happened. Often times my lane could literally be over if I could have gotten the kill but nope. I still have to deal with the enemy's bs because you wanted the kill.

Reminder: As jg main, in even a typical game, let alone a good one, I will: Track the enemy JG so you know before gank coming. Gank Counter Gank Counter Jungle Ward Control Ward Sweep Dragons Herald Barons Be present for practically all team fights Rotate to lanes to defend push Peel Responsible for: all 3 lanes and jg and objs essentially. Etc ... and I will farm my jg cs, which is worth LESS than your cs, in between doing all these things.

In the lane, at least in average gold game or below from what I've seen so far, laners think their responsibility list looks like this:

Maybe help leash Get super fed Win game singlehandedly.

I rarely see a laner ward an objective, and often not even their own lane bushes, lol. Even if I have done all the things above, am 6/0/6 by ten minutes, it is still 50/50 whether or not laners respond to my pings and just trust me(again, at least in gold and below).

Someone said something along the lines of "I can't afford to miss 3.5 waves / super wave!!!" Seriously, that is rare, manage your lane better? The jg player is the player who makes everything sweet or rough until mid to late game, I cannot possibly think of anything more relevant to do then make sure your roaming party is in the best shape possible until grouping time happens. The same way it is vital to have one or two fed laners by late game, you want a strong jg to get you there!

To a jg player, who is constantly looking at map for plays, everything is about timing. We are not guarding a tower most of the game, we are in a Death Race with the enemy jg to be more Deathy. When you demonstrate for your jg teammate that you are quick on the uptake and respond to pings well, no halfway decent player leaves that laner out, no island nonsense, nothing like that. Plenty of games I camp top or see someone camp top, why do you think those games happen? Because their top laner is working with jg!

All you think about is getting more farm, but that's not what it's about. It's about creating a farming difference between you and your opponent(s)! Once you create the difference, all the farming after that is the gravy farm you want, but you first need to create the difference. Collapsing into your own jg with your jgler and ideally mid/the other lane is not just about protecting your jg, it's about getting the kill gold, and sending them back to base unable to farm for a while themselves. These are all factors in this when jg pings 'help me in our jg.'

If you truly cannot be bothered to show up, are you ok with your jg teammate coming to your lane for the next wave or two to stay ahead of enemy jg? NO??? That's your greed talking again! It would be better for you to let the roaming guy, the guy who actually helps everyone across map, leave with that money / power and for you to hide under tower to farm a while. But you all NEVER do that.

Manage your lane respectably, leash when jg wants leash, and show up the one or two time maximum a jg pings for you, it's called teamwork, and your excuses always suck and just end up in your opponent laner being more fed and full of red and blue buff when they show and you don't.

I totally agree with what you're saying, all this knowledge to me is stuff I already knew as a laner. It's a shame more people don't have this kind of sense. I wont play jungle because I don't like how whiney people get. Junglers and supports really have it tough, supports are at the mercy of their team's skill and can't really shine on their own and junglers are like single parents working a minimum wage job just to take care of their bratty ass kids who make their life a living hell.
