Tryndamere Is In Desperate Need of a Rework

Kivolan··38 votes·2,357 views

His entire identity revolves around splitpushing, and deleting anyone 1v1 who tries to stop him, whether there's a turret or not. That's great for champions like Fiora who require some positioning and skillful use of riposte to be able to successfully tower dive. Vayne needs to maintain her distance and keep the enemy guessing with tumble until she gets in position to stun using her E. Tryndamere, meanwhile, helicopters toward the enemy champion and right clicks them to death if he's ahead, or clears the wave, helicopters out of danger and heals any damage done to him while pushing with his Q. Rinse and repeat.

Hell, half the time he doesn't even have to pay attention to the person trying to stop him from killing the turret since he can just press R and take it down in his five seconds of invulnerability. If he dies, oh well... He'll respawn in twenty seconds and do it all over again.

A champion's design philosophy should not be entirely to split push, especially with an ult that provides little counterplay to splitpushing when turrets are at the weakest they've ever been. A champion's design shouldn't revolve around the RNG giving you lucky crits so that you're able to 1v1 anyone that isn't ridiculously more fed than you.

Tryndamere is in desperate need of a rework to give him some actual utility that requires half a brain to use.

First of all, that sounds like how trynd's kit is supposed to work.

Second, this just shows your lack of knowledge on how to deal with him.

Third, He is supposed to be this way, as a non-overloaded type of champion.

As I have quoted from riot multiple times:

"What are champions with extremely focused strengths supposed to do in a long lane that features the most varied range of opponent abilities? The answer is that these single strengths must be overemphasized to the point of being excessively binary for them to even function."

not to mention, he has to be "to be incredibly strong in the split push or I don’t even function as a champion"

to sum that up in one sentance: "Tryndamere excels at one thing, but has few tools to employ if that one thing fails."

source: http://nexus.leagueoflegends.com/2016/12/dev-on-evolving-the-laning-fighter/

This is what his whole champion is based around. He needs this kind of binariness in his kit to be able to function without being another one of those overloaded champions everyone seems to want every champion to be. With the way the game is designed, the current state of the community just seems to have a bad look on splitpushing as a strategy in general.

Also, why can't this be a champion's design philosophy? I don't recall the community being in charge of making every champion teamfight-centric, all with the same abilities, since that's what it feels like everyone wants at this point, even though it would hurt the diversity of the game. What if I want to play a toplaner who can just deal tons of damage and is simple? what if I want to play a champion that can brute force a win if necessary?

90% sure this is just gonna get downvoted or not even fully read anyway due to the community seemingly wanting to play 200+ slight variations of someone like sion. But then again, losing a ranked game against a tryndamere isn't a reason to whine about how he needs a rework.

His lane is decided by a Random Number Generator.

Good luck doing that unless you're someone like Riven or Vayne. If he gets that luck crit on his initiation, you're losing CS and probably EXP. Of course you can fight him and hope he doesn't get lucky. How enticing and strategic.

He has no weaknesses? let's see: Teemo, Vayne, Garen, Quinn, item 3075, summoner 3, summoner 14, {insert any ADC played by someone who knows how to kite or any toplane mage}, item 3143

Not entirely sure who you're responding to, but as far as I'm aware it was never stated that he "has no weaknesses". This is not a "Tryndamere is OP" thread. He needs a rework because his kit is frustratingly dull and encourages mindless splitpushing.

The rest of your comments in the previous post though, oh gosh... Continuously banning a champion is not a solution to their kit's outdateness. Further, pushing the lane once he leaves it would be viable except for the fact that he can take two turrets in the time most other top laners can take one. How do you beat a mindless splitpusher? Bring another mindless splitpusher. Coughcough Udyr (though even Udyr feels more bearable than Trynd)

A champion's lore and quotes don't represent how their laning phase should be for the enemy lol. I enjoy playing against the majority of the champions in this game because there is room for error on both sides. Facing a Tryndamere feels like a desperate game of tag that's stacked majorly against you.

I have played Trynd, and it was just as boring as facing him. Helicopter in, right click something with low HP, press R when your health gets low.

Fun.

But, that actually is fun. Really fun. The simplicity is one of the best parts of his kit, particularly when so many older champs get reworked with a bunch of gimmicky unwieldy abilities that are super awkward.

Not every champion needs to have a bajillion different intra-skill interactions within 3 second cyclical windows of power triggered by 4 dimensional skillshots, sometimes it's ok to just walk up and click on stuff.

FlamingSun2 votes

Yes, u are totally right. Simplicity makes Trynd different then other champs: u can focus to the game instead of champion mechanics.

FlamingSun1 votes

Actually every champ that builds crit is a gimmick then. Crit chance as a stat is bad on one thing: u pay for luck. There is 2 states of it where it is not rng: 0% crit chance(no double damage) and 100% (double aa damage). Any else crit stat is bad. It is up to riot to release an item with only 100% crit chance and removing not 100% crit from the other items. But that would make the crit item weak. If u compensate the loss of crit of other stats: those items become too strong. Actually both crit items and tryn passive says: u MAY deal double aa dmg. Until u reach 100% crit chance u pay for a stat that is not certainly helps you in the next fight. If u buy an item w like 30armor: congrat now all your incoming phisical attacks will be lower CERTAINLY. So crit can be bad for Tryn too: he may not crit in the next 5 second fight.

Since when did I say he has no weaknesses lol. I just said that his weaknesses are boring to play around for both sides of the stick. That and he can be saved if he gets those lucky crits off, which is bullshit early game. It's not possible to deny him any hits on you. He will hit you early on and if he gets lucky, then he wins.

I don't know about you, but I find it super satisfying just to reach full build with him and look at my damage numbers.

That and he can be saved if he gets those lucky crits off, which is bullshit early game.

Then don't let him hit you?

It's not possible to deny him any hits on you.

Last time I checked, his autos didn't have an infinite range...

He will hit you early on and if he gets lucky, then he wins.

Then don't let him? hell, I feel the same way you feel about tryndamere whenever I have to fight a quinn, vayne, teemo, kennen, or similar toplane, and they don't seem to have any complaints.

That's called a boring champion to play against. That's toxic and should not be in the game.

not really. i find any kind of mage or burst mage (particularly defensive ones) much more boring to play against as anyone melee. thus, they are toxic and should not be in the game.

I'm not a fan of binary champs because they're just that, binary. Either they're set to 1(win) and statcheck the game, or they're set to 0 and you'll have more trouble fighting a cannon minion. Not to mention Riot can't do anything to them because binary champs are usually all numbers.

While there should be a champion that is there just to be damage or a split-pusher, Tryndamere does it in the worst way. He isn't interactive atleast compared to almost everyone else. If you take on the "expect the worst" mentality then no one touches each other for the entire lane which only Nasus players would enjoy. If you don't, Tryndamere will get his value set to 1 or 0 all depending on if he gets the crit. In either case someone doesn't get to play the game anymore because binary design.

Yi is kinda what Tryndamere should look up to. Easy to pick up and you can play him to okay effect without much thought. Kinda braindead, but the dedicated can do some cool shit. You can have 10 games or 1,000 on Tryndamere but your plays will be near identical. 10 on Yi looks like running into the enemy team and right-clicking the ADC to death. 1,000 looks like Yi running in while Q dodging and getting W-AA resets.

TimX24968B2 votes

They are necessary for lower elos and beginners, however. Would you rather put someone through a tutorial and try to teach them how to play league while they are playing garen or azir? Would you rather tell that bronze to keep feeding with lee sin because they can't use him to his full potential, or would you rather tell them to play something like annie, who is much more representative of their skill level? not everyone is at the same skill level as you.

While there should be a champion that is there just to be damage or a split-pusher, Tryndamere does it in the worst way.

how? he has the ability to cut through any one or two men that come his way, and any normal person on any champion would be running if more than that came after him. not to mention he has the damage and attack speed to knock turrets down just fine.

He isn't interactive atleast compared to almost everyone else. If you take on the "expect the worst" mentality then no one touches each other for the entire lane which only Nasus players would enjoy.

that's why exhaust is a thing, as well as multiple other champions, kiting, and items to help with it.

Yi is kinda what Tryndamere should look up to.

yi is just civilized tryndamere, lorewise. Trynd is supposed to have a larger damage output anyway, too.

It's not a one-game loss thing. It's an accumulation of how many times I've felt cheated out of a win. It's strange to be up ten or fifteen kills and several objectives only to lose simply because our top laning dies to Trynd once or twice, giving him two or three towers at a time.

It's frustrating to be the one keeping Trynd in check as well. You're constantly chasing him down, because you're either going to go to a team fight while he split pushes or try to push the wave while he goes to another lane to push that instead. It's a lose-lose situation if you're up against a team that is able to clear waves from under their turret while Trynd does his work.

I've played top lane against Trynd, and I literally feel like I'm not even getting to play the game because I have to babysit him.

Darius Pantheon Renekton MonkeyKing are all top laners who are relatively simple but all have very different kits. They can all brute force a win, but they also have some utility and teamfighting potential... Whereas Trynd can essentially only operate in a 1v1 setting.

As a Tryndamere main,

saying you felt cheated out of a win because someone played Tryndamere is such a pussy thing to say. I don't cry BS when the enemy toplaner effectively shuts me down.

That sounds like your teammates can't kite from the lanes he roams to, and how you should be pushing the lane once he leaves it to force him to return.

But on the other side, he is supposed to have a frustrating laning phase. (his quote "I am your worst nightmare" is very representative of this)

Trynd can essentially only operate in a 1v1 setting.

That sounds like you haven't ever played trynd. I've teamfighted with him, and it just goes to show how many assumptions people make about him. its the difference between a 5v5 and 5 1v1s. Learn to take advantage of him.

Actually not only he forces game situations: having an enemy blitz means you have to dodge conwtantly or get grabbed, having a Karthus means you have to instantly recall with low hp.

All of is how champs who we hate: imI eont like Mf enemy adf for example: he cwnlq simply get multy kills by simply pressing the r button.

Do I complain about it? Do I start threads about how Mf is braindead? No, I either bann her or simply try win the game.

I just wish he didn't have those big cheese early game kills due to his Passive. Feel like Crit Chance should be locked behind items, not in someone's kit. Get's annoying when an enemy Trynd has like 100 AD at level 1 and crits me for 165 damage or something and then spins to win. If your an AD champion, good luck. He can press W early game and nuke your AD by about 30-40% before first back.

Feel like the biggest issue is that he is just one big stat check (aka he kills you with his sheer stat superiority).

TimX24968B2 votes

thats why you don't fight him early game. That's like going up to darius as a garen, engaging in an extended trade so darius can get his passive off, then whining about how you should be able to do the same.
