ADC is finally in a better spot, gj riot.
A few thoughts about where marksmen are at balance wise and what direction I think should be taken from now.
Lethality meta is finally gone for bot lane. I've talked to many adc players and most think adc is a lot more enjoyable to play now. The Jhin and Varus meta had essentially stripped adc players of their identity due to not even playing like an adc. Anybody could have played Varus and just shot Qs from half a screen away all game. Anyone could have just played Jhin and played the back line using ult in teamfights. Mechanics weren't very relevant at all.
We're now seeing more variety than we have in a very long time. It's not just lethality, it's not just utility, etc. Of course, those are still playable. But we're seeing hypercarries like Kog, mobile spell-weaving carries like Lucian and Ez, Kalista even, Vayne's making a comeback as well. Simply put, there are different styles of adc that are actually contending with each other rather than having one type just far outclass others.
It also seems to me that junglers aren't as overbearing as they used to be, which always helps. Additionally, support isn't being dominated by mages. They're still playable and quite strong; I had two brands today that both ended up doing the most damage in the game pretty much. But at least I'm seeing more melee supports and lulu and others.
One problem may be that bork is a bit too relevant right now... we're seeing even Ashe build it sometimes if you look at high elo players' builds. What can be done about this? Crit builds could be buffed, but that would make adcs that are currently fine with crit a bit too strong, namely Cait. So crit could be buffed and the current crit rushing adcs nerfed, but that might be risky. Alternatively, champs like Jinx and Trist could use some help. That would be a safer option. Minor nerfs to bork as well probably, but not enough to really hurt the adcs that can use it.
Also, Varus. I was told his winrate was going to climb up, it didn't. It actually went down. Not sure if what's currently on PBE is really going to help him (apparently his Q refund on detonating blight stacks doesn't scale down with CDR) but he may need a bit more help as well.
Anyways, just my thoughts, and it's kinda early right now to be seriously considering changes, but this seems like a step in the right direction. Hopefully, hopefully we don't see the meta narrow down to a few picks in a few weeks or month.
