@ Rito Now that Sion is overperforming how about this change some idea's from a Sion OTP

We all know a lot of this comes from the sorcery tree, as well as games just ending very quickly. Sorcery tree enables Sion to do the exact thing he got nerfed for in the past passive infinite E spam with big damage and waveclear

It gives him a free win lane phase

Now we can just hit him with the nerf hammer but that would imho be unfair because It's not Sion's kit that is overtuned it is the synergy with some of the runes

Sion hasn't really got much changes to his kit besides number tweaks and it has been a century and a half since the rework, still the best rework to date in my humble opinion

Now imagine if you want to run other runes, even though he does pretty well with some other setups too, now you are weak because you didn't pick comet. That is pretty stupid since all that would happen is to enforce that playstyle That or he will end up in the dumpster which wouldn't even be neccesary because we can make the right changes

His kit is otherwise one of the most fair kits to play against reflected in the lack of complaints just see what happens when some champs hit over 50% winrate whole boards explode

So i thought of a couple changes and perhaps there are some other Sion mains who also have some idea's

Stripping power From the E is important but it has a lot of consequences which can ruin him

Things that in my opinion could be stripped or changed The armor shred The bonus damage

However there are things to consider, Sion doesn not have spammable %dmg to combat other beefy enemies like many tanks do The E is very important in his laning phase Sion isn't that good at going all in early and would lose to many champions unless ofc he can poke them down he also needs E for wavelcear Sion is also dependent on doing well from early on at least you don't want to fall behind the reason for this is his abysmal base stats with the ability to farm the extra hp, doing well allows you to farm more whilst falling behind will get you zoned out and miss out on the hp stacking you need to compensate the weak base stats.

This makes Sion high risk high reward do well early and you can become a monster get shit on and you lag behind for the rest of the game He has no safety nets

My changes therefore would be as follows

Get rid of the bonus damage on E

as well as the shred getting replaced with something else

To compensate

Also get rid of the reduced damage vs minions on Q scaling down with ranks in the ability, this should help with waveclear issues that would arise

Passive on E called enrage, Sion gains up to X% bonus damage depending on missing health this could be reflected by his axe glowing as a throwback to his old kit's ability Alternatively he could gain penetration instead or bonus damage scaling with his health

It would better fit into the risk reward factor that his kit has. Sion is still the slowest most telegraphed champion in the game just don't get hit it's not the hardest thing

**Other change ** A simpler option would be to leave the shred get rid of the bonus damage on E and give both E and W better AP scalings

This would get rid of the earlygame damage and enable an ap playstyle

Anyway those are my idea's

I am of the opinion that he needs power redistributed away from his problematic playstyle rather then a direct nerf

Honestly, I attribute the high winrate to his new high play rate. Sion has reached high winrates like this before, and it naturally sank back down without any meddling from Riot. It's not a Sion problem, it's a top lane problem

I wouldn’t get rid of the shred. It actually allows Sion to make a choice on whether hitting a champion with his E is more effective in a teamfight then trying to launch a minion at them.

I very much like that this thread acknowledges a balancing problem (and, to anyone reading this, Sion currently has a >55% win rate and a 8.88% pick rate, so he is objectively significantly overtuned), but also takes the time to offer reasonable nerfs after a proper analysis of why the champion is performing too well.

If the problem has to do with Sion doing too well in the laning phase, then I agree hitting that part would be the most important. If he needs to have his poke reduced but his waveclear kept the same, I agree nerfing his E bonus damage should be the solution, but perhaps only against champions: Sion would therefore still be able to poke opponents, but would otherwise have his waveclear unaffected. Removing his armor shred, and perhaps increasing the slow a little bit, could also make playing against him a little less binary, as he'd punish tanks a bit less just for staying near him. Nerfing his E base damage at early ranks, and having it increase more later, could also tone down his early poke while still allowing him to waveclear later on.

If there is one buff I'd like to see, it would be to have some form of unstoppability on his innate: either he becomes fully unstoppable for the entire duration, or Death Surge makes him unstoppable/cleanses him, but in any case he should have a means of resisting CC while going for enemies in his death state, as he is already very easily kiteable then. It feels shitty to die empty-handed just because it's virtually impossible to run up to anyone at melee range and auto them repeatedly without getting hard-CCed, and giving him a little more agency then could also give him more of a safety net (even if he loses a fight, he still has more of a chance of making a comeback).
