Easy answer is that their S8 MMR was Plat, shown on the far right.

People need to remember that Win % doesn't mean much with context of # of games.

A 10% win rate could be the exact same number of losses as a 45% Win rate. You could have 9 more losses then wins by playing 10 games winning 1 and you can have 9 more losses then wins by playing 20 games at 45%.

i peaked plat 2 last season, i won 7 games out of 10. i got gold 4.

how does this make any sense that this other guy loses 8/11 games and is still placed gold 1.

You "peaked" but what did you end up with when season ended? the guy was at plat 1, 97 lp, if plat 2 is your peak, im guessing you must've ended plat 3 or 4.

So it makes sense he's gold 1, also placements shouldn't influence your rank too much, 2-3 divisions at most.

Also depends on luck with matchmaking, if you get placed against higher tier players, you'll get more from 1 win then from 2-3 otherwise.
