Which were the best and the worst rework of 2016?

This can include full VGUs (ex: Ryze), class update tied reworks (ex: LeBlanc), and non-class update tied reworks (ex: Shen).

On my opinion:

  • Best rework: Yorick

Made him a lot more fun to play (previously his game play consisted of just spamming ghouls, it was braindead as hell), healthier (no longer is a potential lane bully that sustains forever) and take more skill. He now feels like a juggernaut, and unlike Darius and Illaoi, laning against him doesn't feel like hell (completely opposite of his old self) but he isn't to be understimated (his 1x2 potential is understimated). His visuals and voice over got a lot better. Playing him also feels a lot better, because as I said not only he is more fun, but also you no longer have to build a Tear, which would be contradictory for a champion that is supposed to be early/mid game focused but was necessary on old Yorick because he was reliant on spamming ghouls and he had massive mana costs.

On my opinion the only two things that he needs to be perfect are 1) His ultimate's cooldown should start when he casts it (when the maiden is summoned) and not after the maiden dies. If necessary you can increase the cooldown to compensate, or even make the maiden have a set lifetime (like Tibbers and Daisy), but this would make using the ultimate feel a lot better. 2) A new skin. Seriously, there is no excuse to not give him a skin now.

  • Worst rework: Malzahar

He feels a lot worse to play now compared to his old self. They gave him which is peharps the most broken passive in this game to compensate for the fact that they significantly reduced his damage potential, in addition to make him reliant on his voidlings to do damage, while not solving some of his main issues, for example the fact that his ultimate is unhealthy. He received nerfs after nerfs and some changes that made him weaker as a mid laner and then he became broken as a support, and since then they have been trying to get rid of his support capability but every change they make to do that is affecting his mid lane potential. He is too reliant on his ultimate to the point that he has been called an ult bot just like Malphite. He is not fun to play and not fun to play against. People are even asking Riot to revert his rework like they did with Kog'Maw.

As someone who mained both of these champions before their reworks in their positions I would say best is Taric and worst is Galio. Taric kept everything that made him appealing to play between scaling off of armor, his on hit passive, his stun on a short cooldown, his 2 man targeted heal, and his super strong team fight ult. Galio on the other hand retained absolutely nothing. They just deleted the old Galio to replace him with a new champion with the same name. They honestly could have released the reworked Galio as a new champion and no one would have said a thing about them being too similar.

Old Galio - fights at range, arguably the best sustain in the game, AOE taunt ult with highest AP scaling in game other than a fully charged Nunu ult or Veigar ult on low health enemy, cool speed buff for team including minions, hard hitting bursty Q, modest personality

New Galio - fights in your face, arguably the worst sustain in the game, AOE taunt that does no damage, gap closer, totally new ult that has nothing to do with old Galio and is pretty worthless as a middle laner, anticlimactic DoT Q, stuck up personality on par with Draven in terms of ego

With a lack of MR scaling champions, they could have just released the new Galio for another anti AP choice.

Galio is a 2017 rework, though, which is why I didn't mentioned him. That said, I like his rework. He now actually has a hard CC that is not tied to his ultimate. He no longer has massive mana costs. It is much easier to farm with him. He feels much better to play and on my opinion does the "anti-mage" thing better than his old self, thanks to various characteristics on his kit, such as his ability to poke mages from a distance and his magic shield. And he is also a lot more useful against ADs because even though some parts of his kit are weaker or useless against ADs, he has a lot more crowd control and utility to use agaisnt them. The fact that he lacks sustain doesn't matter when you look at all good things he gained. And on my opinion he is not worthless as a mid laner. He is actually very useful as a counterpick to some APs like Katarina. With that said, unlike his old self he can't do the mage job as well, so you need to have another AP on your team to compensate for the fact that Galio is going mid.

Oh....I'm dumb. In that case I would say Shen then.

I'm not saying that the rework is bad. I'm saying that the majority of the people who actually played him pre-rework will likely never even look at the champion again. We already have an excess of tanks with high CC so we didn't have to delete one of the few tanks with sustain. His mana costs were high and csing was hard if you were bad with him. I never had problems with mana and most games I would have by far the most CS until we started grouping and the ADC would take all the minions with a single auto. This season I have 196 average CS on old Galio and last season I had 170. http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/46058999/AlienPrimate#ranked-stats

The problem I saw most people had with the old Galio is that they tried playing him as a straight up mage and not as a tank. My build was usually item 3027 item 3111 item 3110 item 3065 item 3001 and item 3089 /item 3068 . This gave him right at a multiple of 3 on every stat. 3k HP, 300 armor, 300 MR, and 300 AP. Most people I saw went for 2.5k hp, 150-200 MR and Armor, and 600 AP.

How is Q anticlimactic? It's got a ton of damage and a huge AP scaling. It does more damage than old Q, I'm completely certain.

It only does more damage when playing against a bot. Old Q was 270+60%. New is 200+75%. As a tank the old one did more damage.

The hitbox+dot is fucking huge, and you have plenty of lockdown to make them eat the whole 3 ticks. For a grand total of 305 + 115% AP + 6% maxhealth.

Coming from the guy who has not once even touched Galio. His new Q is so unreliable against anyone with a ping less than 200 it is just stupid.

He was reworked, and I've played against him multiple times, as a top main.

I think that Katarina's was the best rework, she's just more fun to play to me and even though she was a little overtuned, I think she's in a good spot right now and don't immediately hate my life whenever I see her in game, Worst has to be malz though, I just don't like seeing him in game and he just gets consistantly nerfed

best rework was definitely Warwick

Kept his gameplay identity, made it feel better besides his Q funkiness, overall great job

worst would be Yorick

both thematically and gameplay-wise i hate yorick now. he is arguably the worst "minionmancer" in the game because of how easy they are to kill despite needing to build them up, especially vs range, and they feel especially shit compared to the up-front power that Tibbers has, or the constant threat that Daisy can put out. even worse is that he has one ability dedicated to being the 'minion target' move to compensate for them otherwise being brainless dipshits that will shove lane until they die. the maiden doesn't feel nearly as satisfying as having a second champion or being able to revenge-kill people, when you have almost no control over it besides your E and you can't redirect it once it goes into a lane. and now he's back to the same pathetic pick rate he had before, when it was low because he was gimped for years and taken off free week to boot.

character wise the saggy, limping grave digger was a lot more interesting to me than whatever dumb monk shit he's on now. purely because of how NOT interesting he was in the perspective of league; his mundane nature actually made him "unique" in a sense, he was memorable because he wasn't. now? i couldn't care less, he tries to be interesting and fails.
