5.2 Ahri

So just played against Ahri with Vel'Koz. Had 0 clue I was fighting an Ahri (blind pick), she countered me before and she counters me now. But the biggest problem about now is when they changed Ahri's Q to get the MS buff it makes it impossible to poke her back, but she also somehow has higher mana sustain than vel with her poke that is 10x easier to hit (ty mana cost buffs awhile ago).

I understand Ahri is weak and all now. But the buff they did to her just made her more toxic to lane against if she counters you. It did nothing to solve her damage problems. Sure she hits kind of harder now without charm, but I mean she also gets a gigantic MS buff whenever she pokes to dodge counter poke. That doesn't solve her mage status and just adds more mobility to an already extremely mobile kit.

Right now she is unfair to lane against if she counters you, but if you even remotely counter her its gg. She has nothing she can do, as before she could at least burst you if you weren't careful.

I mean I literally had nothing I could do against her. I try to even touch the farm and she was immediately standing in it throwing a Q and running back out of range before any of my abilities had even finished the cast animation. If I tried to farm under tower she just wave cleared all my minions with her Q and then would charm and foxfire me while I'm trying to farm the minions off the tower. On top of this she build a Morello (still broken item compared to Athene's) and a WotA. Meaning I always lost trades because she can spam away and heal to full while I'm stuck just trying to survive the nonstop spells.

Riot I understand what you are trying to do to Ahri, but she had her niche with DFG, and the new one if anything is just more toxic as it brings back S3 Ahri which was a monster because of the high mobility and nuke potential. Most people don't factor in her reduced mana cost on her Q and her mobility. But right now that mobility is way too insane. It's too good for the 5 escapes she already has (3 ult charges, flash, charm). She doesn't need more ways to run away, she just needs a real role. No other mage is supposed to whittle down the entire enemy team while having an assassin's kit.

ahri has a ton of roaming and out play potential, a cuonter isnt GG for her.

vel koz on the other hand has a much safer team fight. ( standing behind tanks )

Yes she counter him, no that is not a bad thing.

What the fuck did I just read?

Ahri has less damage now but she's harder to hit and catch.

Also, this is closer to season 2 than season 3.

I feel that in this situation, Ahri just simply counters Vel'Koz. I noticed this when I dueled my friend. I played as Ahri and he played as Vel'Koz. But when I did get caught, he could instantly blow me up. But it was easy to dodge since I had my ultimate and flash (this was before they changed her in the last patch). But I had hefty mana costs in comparison to him. So it's Vel'Koz's burst versus Ahri's mobility. But it's a good thing since there should be someone who counters someone else in game. But I also noticed: If you catch her, she's screwed. If you get caught, you're screwed. I think this makes it pretty even. They also nerfed her damage in exchange for mobility. She lost much of her 1v1 burst. So, if you hit her vs her hitting you, you should kill her before she kills you damage wise.

Few tips:

  • If you are able to predict her spells, you can probably knock her up and throw your other spells before she manages to get away (like E-Q-W). But you have to be QUICK.
  • She does not have her mobility when her orb is down. Use that opportunity to throw your spells.
  • Ahri is extremely vulnerable to slows. Just be wary when her ult is up. You can have a jungler gank to make her waste her flash/ult
  • If you want to solo: When you see her jump in with her ult or flash, make sure to dodge that charm. If you manage to dodge both her orb and charm, you have a chance to beat her up.
  • During the brief moment between her jumps, take the opportunity to E her and land a spell before she jumps again. You have to time the E right so it doesn't land where she used to be. Don't ult her unless you know her ult, flash and charm is down.

I just think the biggest thing is learning how to dodge her orb and charm. If that's too much of a problem, then you can grab boots and pots early game to dodge. Or passively farm while dodging her moves. But that would limit on your harassing damage. I would say the best is to make sure to kite her and make sure she can't touch minions. Ahri can't kill a minion wave with her Q early game till she gets a heavy AP item so you should have the advantage early game.

The thing is she 100% counters Vel. There is no point in which you can catch her anymore. You thought you got her with the Q E W. Nope she casts Q and now she can just sidestep the E. Then she ults and kites you while you are now pretty much on CD and charms you when you try to run.

I played Ahri a lot before the changes and at least before I had to choose my ins and outs carefully. Now its like. Hrm I fucked up. Guess I'll spam one of my 5 mobility moves or use flash. They needed to make her more of a mage not something so slippery that anyone skill shot based cannot touch her without a prior CC application. I mean right now if you even leave the minions to poke her she will just charm you then kite you if you are skill shot based.

No champ should 100% counter another to the point where they can't farm while being ranged without being threatened with death. Melee is a different story because ranged hard counters melee with no gap closers. Ahri has always had the no counter problem. Now I mean how do you counter her? I mean she is so mobile getting a kill on her is near impossible and her mana costs are pretty low now thanks to the previous buffs.

I am in no way saying Ahri is OP. She is broken. There is a difference. She is weak but broken. She needs less mobility and more damage in her full rotation (not in single abilities). I mean she already had 3 escapes/gap closers on a pretty low CD that do damage combined with a CC. She didn't need more mobility. Broken refers to functioning not as intended. Ahri is intended to be a somewhat bursty dps mage. She is so mobile that I don't even think she fits a category for the mages. Most of them are offset by low mobility. But she has so much that she is overbearing in lane against pretty much all picks unless you can somehow hit her often before 6.
