How would you say AP Varus works out?

I've only had 3 games on him, but have been fairly successful with him on all three. (At least in my book.)

Things I can think of about him, he bursts tanks as well as squishies, late game my W dealing 19% Max HP damage per stack of blight, and an AOE ult being able to deal 1k damage.

I've actually outdueled the enemy vayne late game with Varus getting I think 2 stacks of Blight off and ulting her as she came out of her ult tumble being able to outright one shot her if you wanna call it that way in her wave of baron minions. Your autos late game deal mid game adc damage since they scale of AP, and your W damage doesn't cap on minions, just monsters. So I could just one shot the super minions that came to our base.

All in all I wouldn't say he's a solid pick and probably thrived when DFG was around, but he seems far from bad. If your team can peel for you he seems to output tons of damage. Just his long range poke doesn't do that amazing damage on AD Varus.

And if it does matter a bunch I'll say it here, yes I was Bronze I last season and haven't touched ranked this season. I'd rather not deal with the stress of it.

It's average. When I played him a while ago he was able to duel a very fed Lee Sin and forced him to run. But this was because I survived the entire Lee combo and stood around auto attacking and using E.

The biggest issue is the absolute lack of mobility and 0 defensive potential. As AD Varus is allowed to build tons of life steal - the go to safety mechanism for marksmen. As AP he has to auto and then cast all while standing still to maximize effectiveness so I would recommend a team that really looks out for him.

It's honestly strange. I played him quite a bit today. I can't really say much about my games a few the enemy got fed off my team, and I didn't make late game, and I even played most of them as a bot lane marksmen,(Didn't work out too well, mid is best.) but just now really made me smile. Varus' AP numbers are honestly broken and hidden under the mechanic required to utilize it. 60% Max HP Damage late game was nothing to laugh at while you were also getting runaan's stacks off. Having a team that can peel for me meant I could stack the tank diving on us as well as his chasing allies, funny enough it was three tanks that got caught with three stacks each. I ulted the closest and let it spread to the other two watching it do over half their hp in damage, applying three more stacks and killing them.

I'm none too sure how much better AD Varus is since it comes with the benefits of being an adc. (I've played it only once back in season 4.) It's pretty much a well organized team peeling for Varus is what makes it work out so well. If his numbers weren't what they are now I can say he wouldn't be worth the play.

excellent as an early game poke threat since you max Q (gives you mixed damage in lane, procs luden's, makes you a bit of a bully), and then transitions to a bursty tank killer mid-late game.

Most people don't expect you to max Q first and rush MR, allowing you to poke them very hard, meanwhile you can rely on the % HP scaling of your W to keep its damage relevant until mid game when you start maxing it. I go for a very burst heavy build usually like item 3115 item 3100 item 3285 item 3089 item 3135 item 1311 (lots of AP, a fair amount of on-hit burst, and a lot of MS to make up for immobility). I can burst a tank down very easily with an R>AA>AA>E>AA>AA>Q combo since it deals a total of 80% max HP magic damage with only 4 AAs while also giving to Sheen procs and dealing a massive amount of on-hit damage. If attacking a squishy, you can even go for only R>AA>E>AA>Q since your base damage and sheen procs will be enough to burst them.

He isn't the strongest at the moment (he really thrived right when tanks were strong back in the spring), but he's definitely fun and viable in the right situation.

It is not super horrible. Played it sometime too. The dmg is big but u need too much time for the 3 Stacks in teamfight.

It's honestly not that bad, you can also deal chip damage by getting one stack off and a Q. (I say one stack due to people obviously going to run away when you auto them) My build having Runaan's and Nashor's, getting the stacks off was never really a problem so much as trying to kite and not get jumped on.

he does a lot of damage late game, but the problem i have with him is no poke and it takes forever to get 3 stack of w. Sated ap varus is op tho cause he stacks w faster and the extra on hit applies the on hit ow w and nashors dealing 120% ap in 2 autos. The problem with sated ap varus is he is bad in the jg

Not having the poke is the biggest downside, I think. Have you tried hybrid?

I actually haven't. I've played AD Varus maybe once when he was free and didn't really like him.

Also first loss confirmed. Could not face a Veigar.

If you're going against a Veigar and you can choose to go either AD or AP, you should almost always just pick AD. It mitigates a lot of his burst.

Why bother when AD Varus ramps up much faster and is far safer since you don't have to get into auto range of enemies?

ap varus would be viable if they had on-hit sustain

Yea there was another post on on-hit items. I would really like to see more on hit items tho
