Anyone Else Feel That Champions Aren't Getting Nerfs/Buffs to What They Need Changed?

Title. What I mean is when Riot decides to nerf/buff other parts of a champion's kit instead of nerfing/buffing what needs changes.

May not be a very convincing example, but take Poppy. What's strong about her? Having a lot of tankiness and pretty good base damage. What makes her have this? CoC, her passive, her W passive, and potentially her base stats.

Riot chooses to nerf Poppy's shield, so that's all good. But then they nerf her ult's uncharged damage? Seems to be off the mark, but a decent nerf, nonetheless. But, that's really it. No changes to her W or base stats, so she may still be a good champion.

Maybe an example that the boards may feel more strongly about is LeeSin. Yes, this guy, the one everyone loves to hate. So, what makes him strong? Ideas and opinions say his high mobility and just generally being a blind swiss army knife. The "swiss army knife" part may be an exaggeration, but I think the point still stands. So, instead of making him a bit less mobile, Riot chooses to nerf his ult's damage. (Yes, this is patch 7.1 btw) Uhm, people say his mobility is oppressive but his ult damage gets nerfed? I mean, yes it helps, but is it really the issue. Lee usually uses his ult to knock people into bad situations like under a tower or into his team. Sure, he wants to deal damage, but would you rather just kick a champion for damage or to get them in a bad position?

This really is just my opinion. I had the thought for a while that champions may not be getting direct nerfs/buffs to what the need. I don't completely disagree with this style of balacing, but I don't agree much either. I don't think that Riot never does direct nerfs, they have once or twice, but it's something I noticed recently.

Anyone else want to share their opinion on it? Would love to hear what others have to say or add on to the idea.

Small changes can have a huge impact on the performance of a champion. The idea is to make those small changes to remove some of the strength from the champion to reduce the performance of the champion but not ruin the niche of the champion or erase the specific perks of that pick.

Poppy is rather strong so she gets nerfed and Poppy is that way because tank options are currently strong. They don't remove or nerf the W or her tankiness as she is supposed to be tanky and needs to be tanky to work. That's her type and that's not the root of the problem. Poppy got stronger from the state of the game and so they nerfed her to increase the ability of others to fight her and that was the problem. Lee Sin is like the same thing. Yes, people around here will complain that Lee can gap close onto them, but the fact is that Lee Sin is supposed to be able to do that so then he can do Lee Sin things and (maybe) be useful and help his team win. One can't just take out the adaptability of the champion you chose for that, so they take down the damage so he can't just gap close and kill you and that makes him less oppressive like how people complain about.

I get what you mean, Nidalee's trap changes were a head scratcher for me.

I think that might've been made by Riot to keep the champion fresh too. She was already pretty poor in the new jungle too, from what I heard.

Lee was kicking people just to deal damage 90% of the time before nerfs (and I think he still kinda does), due to him being able to nearly 100-0 anyone at level 6 with 2 longswords.

Ekko was nerfed pretty much spot-on, I think. But yeah, I think many people agree with you.
