Does new Fiora have a single counter?

FistOfSharkiesha··35 votes·10,016 views

This is a serious question, I can't think of a single counter for her and very few laners can even CS without being butchered. Her %HP true damage counters tanks, her parry counters champions who would have countered her if she didn't have it (Teemo, Riven, Jax's counterstrike even causes him to stun himself against her while she negates his stun), she has a gap closer to prevent ranged champions from dealing with her. She even has phenomenal teamfighting.

At least when I saw Riven top every game before the Fiora rework I could grab Olaf or Darius to deal with her. Now Fiora seems to be able to deal with anyone who doesn't have absolutely instantaneous CC but most of the champions who have that are tanks that can't deal with her true damage.

Champion select is a pretty huge counter, Fiora has a really really high Banrate.

This is true... I've been winning most of my lanes and most of my games in general in ranked because she isn't allowed to exist there. The moment I try teambuilder to practice champions here comes Fiora in 99% of my games. I want to try out new champions in unranked but I can't really do that because everyone trolls in normals so it's slow to learn a champion what with all the feeding teammates but I'm so close to Gold that I wouldn't dare first time Diana in ranked.

Have you tried using Lulu?

You can harass her from a pretty safe distance and slow her with Q. Also Lulu can peel for any of her allies that Fiora is trying to kill.

Well, of course she has a counter, it's called Riposte.

But on a serious note, good champs to pick would probably be anyone who can harass her better than she can them (I'm thinking people like Gnar or Lissandra, maybe Pantheon Urgot and Olaf too) people who are good against AD and or auto-attackers (say Malphite Rammus Taric) and people who can either out-burst her in an all in (basically kill her before she can get her ult heal) or survive her all in on their own. There are also standard top bullies like Lulu Heimerdinger Trundle who fair pretty well against her early game.

I'd actually be really interested to see how a lane Rammus does against Fiora, I've never seen that matchup but I bet a bruiser Rammus could do pretty well against her.

My personal favorite would probably be Lissandra since she is so good against melee, she can self peel really well, and if she gets all-ined she can ult herself to wait out some of the duration of Fiora's ult while also healing herself for a fair amount.

Sire Hippington3 votes

the problem of rammus and similar picks is that her scaleing truedamage destroys them later in the game. early on, it's rather ignorable, but with 4items+ it's above 12%hp for each vital. If you have a early-mid setup and can snowball it through, np, but if she ever reaches lategame, you will regret that tank pick.

what works best from my experience are ranged laners with good disengage, as she lacks sustain, her Q has rather low range and high cd early on. brutal early bullys like renekton or pant also work well, though they have the same prob as tanks and need to finish the game early.

I'll take on Fiora anyday, I mainly play jayce top and unless I'm totally brain afk (or the enemy Rengar jungle hates me;/) she's free food. She'll have trouble cs'ing against the heavy poke and her all in isn't that much stronger if you don't waste your load on her parry (save your e for after she uses it, or if she doesn't use it then use it as she dashes)

I did well against her with Panth.

I always do well against her with Pantheon.

Best. Passive. Ever.

DeathToHeretics6 votes

Pardon me, new to the Baker Man, how does his passive assist against the French Fencer?

Solidair34 votes

Blocks autos and he can put his passive on immediately after using his stun. Which means he can get it twice. Fiora primarily relies on using her auto attacks to win trades in general.

All you have to do is make sure you don't try to stun her when she's riposting.

Ralanr6 votes

Her vitals count as basic attacks. Pantheon's passive blocks basic attacks from champions (though some champions are different). Careful stacking of your passive can block two of her next vital hits, leaving you free to damage her in trades. This also works towards your benefit because you have more range than her (and you can't miss because Q) so you can punish her for keeping her distance and for coming up close (since his E active deals double damage to champions).

Nebuul6 votes

Fiora's counter is walls. And distance.

If you are moving towards fiora, you see where the vital will spawn. If it is in her direction, take a step back to lose the buff, then approach again for a new vital direction.

If fiora engages you, stand next to a wall to block the vital. You will almost always win trades vs Fiora if she cannot get to the vital. This will also stop her from proc'ing her ult -- just stand directly against a wall and she cannot get the heal unless you die.

Melledoneus1 votes

The problem is if she Q's next to you the Q will penetrate your hitbox and hit the vital regardless. Yes, you heard that right, the direction of the vital doesn't really matter if she gets close to you.

That's just incorrect

Her early game damage isn't the best. Strong early game champions can overpower her and prevent her to scale up. As well, ranged champions can dish out some free harass on Fiora since Lunge isn't exactly the best gap closer.

Tryndamere works extremely well against Fiora. The massive AD reduction on his shout cripples her ultimate. He and Fiora can both regenerate health at around the same rate, but he significantly outclasses Fiora in trading.

Malphite also does alright. She does turn the match up against him later, but early game, his passive shield negates 1 to 2 vital procs. Malphite can easily trade back or disengage from Fiora with Q or E. As well, Fiora can't parry his ultimate at point blank range unless she does it preemptively.

Rumble countered the old Fiora, and counters the new one. He wins the same reason Malphite does; his shield blocks 1 to 2 vital procs early game. This gives Rumble ample breathing space to harass with Q and kite back with E. As well, Rumble's ultimate equalizes (pun not intended) the healing component of Fiora's ultimate, and it has just as much impact as Fiora's ultimate in a team fight.

Heimerdinger counters all melee fighters. Fiora might be able to try something once she hits 6, but if she missteps without her ultimate, it is a kill for the 'donger.

Renekton.

Start W and you win trade if she Qs on you level 1. He does more early game damage then her if you don't get parried. Once you level 3 E unto her, wait for her to parry, then stun. Renekton will always come out on top. If she holds on to parry, auto her to death, if she's scared and waste it, wait .75 seconds then stun.

she has more than one, most ranged champions counter her. Yasuo seems to counter her, I use Jayce to counter her, Jax can still bash her face in (skill matchup) Riven is also a skill matchup in riven's favour since she can dash around to troll vitals. Olaf bashes fiora's face in with superior numbers, Darius still does the trick. While implied in the ranged part Vladimir makes her cry (pokey pokey and pool when she ults) and I imagine (though never tried) Fizz does the trick.

That's just the counterpicking, you can also walk away to reset vitals to a more favourable spot, if your vital is to the north keep it to a wall, do the same if it points south.

Edit: http://champion.gg/champion/Fiora it appears I was wrong against Jax, but this site lists plenty of counters.

Also, if she has 5% pickrate and 50% winrate yet almost 90% banrate, is she really op? Or do people just think she is op/hate playing against her.

She's merely annoying to play against, and with many champions you feel entirely, completely hopeless.

I understand the feeling, I feel that way against Zed Yasuo or sometimesKalista with most champs I play, annoying does not automatically mean op though.

Orangesilk2 votes

It's a problem of player agency, with most champions you could say Fiora is a skill matchup, but you have no agency on it, it depends merely on how skilled the Fiora is. For example when I play Swain, it's a matter of if she knows how to handle the matchup, or if she burns her parry before the root, I don't get to outplay, but she does.

Same goes for Zed, Yasuo and Kalista, or Riven for that matter, you depend on the other person being bad, no matter how hard a champion is to play, it doesn't make you feel any better when they know how to play them and you're in lose-lose scenarios.

Yorick seems to work well against alot of champions, it's really easy too.. just button mash as fast as Ryze mains do

The Bíg Ticket2 votes

Trundle, Pantheon, Tryndamere, Renekton and good Malphite's beat her. Jax is a skill matchup, you can surprise her by activating your stun earlier than she expects and then she loses very hard. Very snowbally lane though, so don't play it if you are not experienced on Jax.

Pantheon destroys her, Maokai is pretty good against her, Mostly every ranged top champ can destroy her, I.E. Ryze, Gnar, Lulu, etc. From what I've played personally, Yasuo is good against her, Garen is selectively good against her, if you can play your silence right. Honestly, she has a lot of counters, people just take more time complaining than they do trying to find them, just like the new Darius. Gangplank can kinda of go toe to toe with her. I've played the new Fiora since she was released, and I've got a good deal of how to deal with her. Denying her farm really sets her back, because most first tier 3 items (Hydra, or Trinity Force) cost quite a bit. Depending on her first item, she's not that good at farming early on either, as her autos feel kind of wonky, even after all this time. I can't explain it. Taking a Dorans blade leaves her with one potion, because she is pretty squishy early on, Taking a Long Sword just gives her brute damage with no way of healing other than her 3 potions. Flask is probably my favorite start for her for a couple reasons I won't get into because this post is pretty long already. It's kinda like process of elimination.

The biggest thing that pisses me off about Fiora is that her riposte is an A/S slow cuz I was playing Taric into Fiora and it was alright I was 2/0 on her w/o ganks but than her stupid true damage and A/S slow screwed up my string, luckily the team pulled through so it was good but still

fiora is meant to be a champion that have no hard counter but at the same time dont counter anyone, it's all skill match up.

That would be fine if her power were difficult to access.

I actually like Singed against Fiora . Unsuccessful against him and successful playing as him vs her in various plays. Just grab some tanky items and don't forget the ability power. It's really funny when she Q's onto you and you just fling her back - like nope!

Anu3isII1 votes

Yeah , most of the champs I can think of are kinda more of a skill matchup for her.

Though , I find Irelia a pretty good pick against her. Fiora's Parry has a long cooldown compared to your E , and you almost all the times can stun her after she hits a vital. And Irelia can have deadly all-ins , especially with ignite( I use Teleport+Ignite almost everytime I go top lane).

Your late game is as powerful as hers or more powerful in some cases , and you can get the enemy carries much easier.

Also , Irelia has her comeback mechanics ;)

But in general , I saw many jungles camping top lane Fiora and making her USELESS , making her just a walking Janna ult ( that bad it was for them ).

Also , Irelia benefits by a lot with the new Juggernaut items ( deadly-tank-assassin xD ).

Quinn Because most people don't even know how to play her right, let alone how to play AGAINST her. That and the self-peel, blind, and range.

The vault is a displacement which can actually get you stunned if you aren't careful. It's not as faceroll as you might think.

Elkington VI1 votes

Yeah, but then you're picking Quinn while the enemy team has Fiora.

Unless you're really good with Quinn and/or can end it early, the Fiora will still be just as relevant as you even behind. Her passive and ult ensure she's able to stay in the game if played well.

Puppet33r1 votes

Isn't it kind of a point of being a grand duelist? Her 5v5 is pretty pathetic as she is pretty squishy and has to jump into the middle of enemy team to proc her passives with only 0.75 sec window of invulnerability with a VERY long cd which is nothing compared to what Fizz has.

FistOfSharkiesha2 votes

She's not squishy anymore though. You don't build her like an ADC now. You either built her drain tank or slap a TF or Hydra on her and then build off tank. She has plenty of room to get at least one kill, proc her ultimate healing, and roll face from there.

fééd l0rd1 votes

She is one of those reworked champions which do not have any weaknesses. the concept of fiora is that she is a splitpush duelist but i do not get why she has this aoe heal. she is mobile, does true damage, is easy to play has cc and can block EVERYTHING. she is hella overloaded. but can somebody please explain me why a splitpush duelist can heal his allies instead of himself?

FistOfSharkiesha2 votes

You're preaching to the choir. She could have absolutely nothing other than her %HP true damage and riposte and she'd be broken. A champion with true damage should never be given self peel or worse yet, a way to ignore CC. She can even riposte exhaust and ignite. On top of this she has 2 slows, an MS boost, 2 heals, and a gap closer.

She's as strong as the juggernauts so I just can't wrap my head around why she has her lunge. She needs either her riposte, true damage, or lunge retuned, then she might be balanced.
